Apparatus for preparing coffee The present invention relates to an apparatus for preparing coffee directly from coffee beans and it is charac terized by the fact that it comprises a percolator and a coffee grinder delivering the ground coffee. directly on a filter of this percolator.
The mill will preferably be driven by a steam engine, the exhaust steam of which can be used to heat the percolating water.
The coffee grinder can also be actuated by an electric motor also controlling a pump or propellant causing the circulation through the ground coffee of water heated by any heat source, inside or outside the appliance.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus for preparing coffee, object of the invention.
The apparatus shown consists of a cylindrical container 1, 1 'comprising in its upper part a compartment 2 delimited by a bottom 3 and forming a boiler. This compartment is provided on its cover with a filler cap 4 and a safety valve 5, and, on its bottom 3, with an electric spiral heating resistance 6 leading to external connection pins 7 .
The bottom 3 has a central opening 8 in which is fixed a tube 9 in which is journalled the tubular shaft 10 of a steam turbine, formed by a tube 11 bent in the opposite direction at its two ends on which are fixed nozzles. 12, 12 '; the section of the necks of the nozzles is dimensioned, taking into account the power developed, so as to achieve in the boiler 2 a pressure of several atmospheres, for example 4 to 5 kg.
The turbine 11-12 -12 'is located in a second compartment 13 of the container limited by a removable bottom 14 with a cylindrical rim 14', on the underside of which is fixed a coffee grinder, comprising a fixed hopper 15 containing the coffee in grains, and a nut tower nante with Archimedean screw 16, the whole surrounded by a cylindrical casing 17 open at the bottom and fixed on the bottom 14 of the turbine compartment. The turbine controls this slack through a reduction gear.
For this purpose, the end of the shaft 18, integral with the tube 11 of the turbine, comprises a slot for coupling with a screwdriver blade 19 provided at the end of a pin 20 journalled in the wall 14 and carrying a pinion 21 engaged with an intermediate pinion 22 meshing in turn with a ring gear 23 integral with the nut 16 of the mill. The bottom 14 of the compartment 13 has openings 24, 24 '... through which the steam leaving the nozzles 12, 12' of the turbine passes into the annular chamber 25 formed between the container 1 and the casing 17 of the mill.
The bottom 26, of the container 1, 1 ', which is in two separable parts 1, 1' to allow the filling of the mill and the cleaning, assembled by the folded flanges 27, 27 ', carries a filter consisting of a cylindrical flange 28, the upper edge of which is located above and inside the lower edge of the casing 17 so as to form a baffle.
The bottom 26 is provided, inside the glue rette 28, with perforations 29, ensuring the circulation of water through the filter, as will be described below. The nut 16 of the mill is extended by an axis 31 carrying a paddle 32 rotating in the filter 28-29 in which the mill delivers the ground coffee leaving the hopper 15. The container 1, 1 'is submerged to a level greater than that of the filter in the water contained in a container 33, fitting with the main container 1, 1 ', carried by feet 34, 34' and comprising at its base a tap 35.
The container 33 has an opening 36 in communication with the atmosphere in order to make atmospheric pressure prevail.
A thermostat 37, controlled by the temperature of the wall of the boiler 2 cuts off the current in the resistor 6 as soon as all the water has evaporated.
The operation of the device which has just been described is as follows. When the water contained in the boiler 2 is brought to the boil, the steam enters the turbine and starts it.
(Preferably, a valve 30 arranged in the tubular shaft 10 of the turbine does not allow feeding until a determined value of the pressure is reached.) The ground coffee falls into the filter 28, while that the steam leaving the turbine is forced back into the annular chamber 25, condenses on contact with the water contained in the lower container 33 which it heats up to a temperature close to 100o and causes, by convection,
circulation of the water thus heated through the filter 28, following the arrows. The heat and the coffee essence thus produced are diffused at the same time throughout the entire mass of water contained in the receptacle 33. After a few minutes of this active circulation, the coffee is completely elaborated and brought to a temperature. suitable.
