kontinuier lichen Kohlenstoffkette verteilte Carboxvl- gruppen bzw. funktionell abgewandelte Carb- oxy lgruppen.
Zweckmässig werden die Polymeren innig mit dem Boden vermischt. -Man kann dies so bewerkstelligen, dass nian das Polymer dein Boden zusetzt und durelt Unigraben, E-gen oder unter Anwenduri;

Method for soil treatment The present invention relates to a method for soil treatment for the purpose of improving the physical structure of soils, which in particular enables an increase in the harvest yield and a prevention of natural erosion.
The method according to the invention is. characterized in that a water-soluble to swellable mixed polymer of maleic acid or a maleic acid derivative and another polymerizable nronoolefinic compound is added to the soil.
The method according to the invention primarily enables a rapid improvement of the soil structure and thus a stiffening of the agricultural yield, in particular of soils with an unfavorable normal structure, in that the erosion of exposed soil surfaces can largely be prevented.
Furthermore, the method according to the invention also enables the development of circled cover plantings.
The method according to the invention is particularly suitable for a rapid improvement in garden soils, especially in places where sterile lower soil layers have been exposed, and also for improving average soils, especially in parts of the terrain where none organic fertilizers are available.
It also enables bulbous plants to be grown in places where a dense, compact clay soil prevents the normal development of such plants. In addition, semi-sterile soils can be improved, in which an increased retention of the correctness of the soil and a reduction in evaporation under the action of solar radiation is desirable.
The process offers particular advantages when cultivating cover plantings on road embankments, on backfilled terrain and on stepped embankments, where erosion must be prevented until such plantings have gained a foothold. Finally, the invention is suitable for preventing erosion in parts of the terrain where the surface vegetation has been destroyed by natural phenomena or as a result of over-exploitation of the soil.
The mixed polymers to be used according to the invention preferably have a. Molecular weight of at least 10,000.
The copolymers must contain a sufficient number of ionizable cores to achieve the required water solubility or swellability. Suitable polyelectrolytes are, for example, the calcium salt of the copolymers of maleic acid and vinyl acetate, the ammonium salt of the copolymers of maleic acid and isobutylene, the salts of the copolymers of vinyl acetate and maleic acid,
the salts of the copolymers of ethyl vinyl ether and maleic acid, the salts of the copolymers of stinylacetate and maleic anhydride and the salts of the mixed polymers of ethyl alcohol and 1 @ ialeic acid. These polyelectrolytes contain numerous, along a practically linear,
Carboxyl groups distributed in a continuous carbon chain or functionally modified carboxyl groups.
Polymers can be used which form homogeneous compounds with water, sparingly soluble polymers which swell and partially dissolve in the presence of water, and even compounds which are apparently not soluble in distilled water, but dissolve or swell in the soil water len. The solubility enables the movement of the 1VIolecules in the earth with the help of the soil moisture.
Although most of the polyelectrolytes listed above are hydrophilic and do not make the soil water repellent, there are some polymers which, although water soluble, make the soil water repellent when used in excessive amounts. These are polymers that have relatively high molecular weight side chains, or that contain a minimal number of ionizable groups. Although substances of this type are of minor interest, it should be noted that they are fully effective in producing an improved structure.
If these substances are added in carefully measured amounts, the detrimental property of water repellency of the treated soils can be avoided.
The polymers described above can be added to the soil in small amounts, e.g. B. in amounts of 0.0001-2 Gew.o / o of the plowable upper surface soil are added. Optimal results are achieved using 0.01 to 0.2%.
The molecular weight of the polymer is of some importance in order to achieve the optimum effect. It has shown that molecular weights above 10,000 are appropriate, while molecular weights above about 15,000 are required to achieve optimal results. With some polymers the effect reaches a maximum with Wolektilargewicliten of 30,000 to 100,000.
A further increase in molecular weight does not result in any further I: rhöliui @ _; the effect, even if there is no noticeable reduction in it. You can use very weakly cross-linked polymers: lrevoi-zug, "however, linear polymers, the polymers can be added directly to the soil, if desired.
However, it is more useful for general purposes, di (- Polyniere with a diluent, S-, or extender, which can be a solvent, such as
Water, or with a solid carrier, for example with peat, limestone, sand, clay or arid earth, mineral fertilizers, silage or other fertilizers or soil-improving substances. If the polymers are added together with plant nutrients, favorable side effects on the growth tendency of the plants can be observed on the treated soil.
On floors. the means of fertilizers containing the polymers were improved, a faster and more abundant growth of the plants he aims. than when using only fertilizer. The use of any fertilizer medium components, the basic nutrients, such. B. nitrogen, phosphorus lind potassium and trace elements such. B.
Boron, manganese, magnesium, molybdenum, cobalt and iron, contained, can be lost by plants by adding the structure-improving polymers described above.
The lliselipolyiiiei-e can contain chemically reactive groups, for example acid anhydride, carboxyl, 1-hydroxyl or other groups which can connect with the various acidic or basic components added. For example, the metal salts or the lime in the fertilizer can react with the acidic polymer groups.
In a similar way, you can connect III, i # droxyl or amino groups of the polymers with acidic groups of the fertilizer.
The polymers are expediently mixed intimately with the soil. -You can do this in such a way that the polymer clogs your soil and goes through uni ditches, e-gens or under appli-cations;
, other mixing methods common in agriculture are added to the soil. The polymers apparently react with the help of the soil water. If the soil has not been dried out, there is sufficient moisture for effective incorporation of the Polvilrers.
It is. often. It is preferable to use moderate moisture that is provided either by rainfall or artificially by sprinkling or watering. If there is to be additional moisture, it is doubtful
Thoroughly mix the polymers into the soil before moistening. Since the polymer is dispersed in the soil, it is sometimes beneficial to work the soil in order to form permanent A-glomerates of the desired (troughs. Polvniere applied to the soil surface are ultimately in the.
Soil dispersed, thereby. the structure of the soil is improved. In this way of working, however, a long time is required to achieve an effective improvement. In the latter case, the polymeric substance diffuses into the soil with the help of soil moisture.
This process is started by the normal process of moistening and drying as well as freezing and plating.
As already mentioned, the polvmeren can be found in the form of aqueous solutions. This method is suitable for the treatment of fields in which planting is currently being carried out, in particular for the treatment of freshly sown soils.
By treating the soil parts that are directly angled to the growing plants or the sown seeds, an effective agglomeration of the critical soil parts can be achieved without using polymers for the non-productive soil parts. It has been shown that polviner solutions are normally more effective than ag- lomerates. Stabilize way.
All you need is the built-up one. Adding aqueous solutions of the polymers to soils. Another mixing or separate agglomeration operation is necessary here.

<tb> in <SEP> sufficient <SEP> extent <SEP> fractions <SEP> can be colloidally or molecularly dissolved in water to cause agglomeration.
Some of the water-soluble polymers are apparently not attacked by distilled water. In contrast, soil water which contains acidic or basic constituents in solution can exert a sufficiently strong dissolving effect for the purpose according to the invention. If the solubility is minimal, it may take a longer time to achieve complete agglomeration.
<I> Example 1 </I> The effect of polymers on the content of water-resistant agglomerates was determined according to the following. Method determined: 30 liters of distilled water containing the appropriate amount of polymer are added to 100 g of Miami muddy clay that has been powdered in such a way that the particles pass through a sieve with openings of 0.25 mm. The earth is mixed well and thoroughly.
a 4 mm sieve pressed through. After drying for at least 2 days in a warm cream at a low level of fire resistance, air at 50 ° C. is blown over the 1 "earth material for 10 minutes to complete the drying. Samples weighing 40 g are placed on the top sieve of a set of three sieves . with openings of 0.84 mm, 0.42 mm and <B> 0.25 </B> mm, which are arranged from top. to bottom with. decreasing sizes.
The sieves will. raised and lowered in water at a distance of 3.8 cm at a rate of 30 oscillations per minute for 30 minutes. At the end of this time, the sieves are raised, the water is allowed to drip off, and the soil is dried at 80 ° C. and weighed.
The results are in Table I in the form of percentages of water-resistant agglomerates with a diameter of more than 0.25 mm. cited. Miami- Schla.mmlehrn, which does not contain any polymer, does not supply any water-resistant agglomerates, so to speak.

A piece of land near the base of the slope was leveled using garden tools so that all the gutters were filled. Polymer no. 5 in the form of a dry powder in an amount of 9.76 kg / m 2 was scattered on one half of this piece of terrain and worked into the surface by means of a rake. After a month, the grooves had formed in the iui-treated part, while no trace of erosion was detectable in the part treated with polymer.
