Description

Lighting and signaling installation, in particular for a motor vehicle The main patent relates to a lighting and signaling installation, in particular for a motor vehicle, comprising a source of electric current intended for to the '' power supply for position lights (parking lights y including rear lights), headlights and dipped beam at least, - a hand switch to three positions corresponding, respectively -, the first to daytime traffic, the current source being capable of supplying certain electrical devices of the vehicle and in particular the acoustic warning device, the second to night circulation in built-up areas, the current source supplying, in addition to the devices supplied in the first position,

position lights (police lights y including rear lights), the third position corresponding to night traffic outside built-up areas, the current source supplying in addition to lights, either the headlights or the dipped headlights (code), a to switch to foot control being inserted in the circuit to allow the selection of the headlights, or dipped beam headlamps (code), this to foot switch comprising at least one additional contact allowing selection at the foot of a signaling device even when the hand switch is in second position.

In the embodiment described in the main patent, this additional contact is of the type with elastic return in the open position and actuated at the start of the travel of the operating button of the switch to foot. In this embodiment, it was still possible to activate the horn by pressing to all the way on the to foot switch, which can be a drawback in certain cases, because it is possible that the driver presses the switch too hard to switch from the large headlights to the dipped beam headlights, and that he thus actuates his acoustic warning device inappropriately.

The present invention aims to remedy to this drawback by virtue of the fact that said additional contact is provided to connect three terminals electrically to each other when it is actuated, these terminals being respectively re linked to the supply of the position lights, to the supply of one of the main beams (codes or headlights) and to a terminal of an acoustic warning device, the other terminal of which is connected to the current source of the vehicle for the three positions of the hand switch to .

The appended drawing represents, schematically and by by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention. Fig. 1 is the electrical diagram ; in fig. 2 shows the to foot switch used in this form & execution, its cover being removed ; in fig. 3 is a cut through through the switch according to fig. 2.

The lighting and signaling installation comprises a source of electric current, for example an accumulator battery 1, 'intended to powering position lights ( police), headlights and dipped beam headlights at least. A three-position to main 2 switch is provided for the selection of the various devices to to supply for day and night traffic.

Position I of switch 2 corresponds to daytime traffic, the current source 1 being capable of supplying certain electrical devices in the vehicle and in particular the alarm. acoustic 3. Position II corresponds to night traffic in built-up areas, the current source 1 supplying power, in addition to powered devices in position I, position lights 4 (police lights). Position III corresponds to night traffic outside built-up areas, the current source 1 supplying, in addition to position lights 4, or headlights 5 , or the dipped headlights 6 (code).

A foot 7, rotary type control switch is inserted in the circuit to allow selection of either the headlights 5, or the lights crossing 6.

As seen in Figs. 2 and 3, this switch comprises a body 8 forming a box, having lugs 9, allowing it to be attached to the vehicle. This body 8 is integral with a cylindrical extension 10 in which it is capable of sliding axially, against the action of a spring 11, </ B > a rod 12 carrying at one of its ends a control button 13. The other end of the rod 12 is connected to a part 14 in the form of a pallet with a slot 15. An axis 16 is fixed transversely in the central part of the box 8 and the part 14 is engaged by its slot 15 around said axis 16. A rotating part 17,

in the shape of a star with six branches, is arranged on the axis 16. A say that 18 in insulating material is also rotatably mounted on the 16 axis. This 18 disc carries a 19 star-shaped plate to < / B> three branches, made of metal, a good conductor of electricity. This disc 18 has a notch 20 in which is engaged a curved part 21 of a branch 22 of the part 17.

In addition, a spring, not shown in the drawing, is placed between the parts 17 and 18 and tends to keep them apart one by one. on the other, keeping, however, the part 21 engaged in the notch 20 ; on the other hand, a projection 23 is provided on the part 14 to come abut against the corresponding branch of part 17 when actuating control button 13. In fact, when moving button 13 </ B> with a normal stroke length, the projection 23 turns parts 17 and 18 a sixth of a turn, and when releasing button 13,

the spring 11 returns the part 14 to its initial position without dragging the parts 17 and 18. </ B > The jerky loading of parts 17 and 18 is carried out in the same way as a drive using a ratchet device .

This switch has, on the other hand, a cover not shown in the drawing and intended to come to close the housing 8 and to keep the various rotating parts it contains.

On this cover, which may be entirely of insulating material, are fixed six terminals 24, the positions of which are indicated in dotted lines to in fig. 1. These 24 terminals are used for various switch connections, which are likely to be supplied with current whenever part 19 is in contact with the terminals 24 respective ones.

The switch shown in fig. 2 and 3 also comprises an additional contact of the type with elastic return in the open position. This contact is formed by an elastic blade 25, which is isolated from the body 8 and tines to to be elastically connected to the two terminals 30 and 31 under the action of an isolated finger 26 which is integral with the plate 14. The blade 25 </ B> is elastically connected to a terminal 32 which is itself connected to the power supply for the position lights 4. Terminal 30 is connected to a terminal of the acoustic warning device 3, whose other terminal is connected to a source 1 vehicle current.

Terminal 31 is connected to the dipped beam headlamps supply.

When switch 2 is in position I, it can be seen that by partially pressing button 13 of the foot switch , the additional contact is first closed by connecting terminals 30, 31 and 32. The acoustic warning device 3 works, because it is connected between the current source 1 and the mass, by means of the filaments of the dipped beam lamps 5 and of the parking lamps 4. As all of these lamps are intended for </ B> absorb a much stronger current than that of the alarm, the voltage drops in these lamps are very small, so that the alarm works under normal conditions and the filaments of the lamps do not heat up noticeably.

Moreover, one often meets in known installations a relay intended to close the contact of the acoustic warning device, and, in such an assembly, it is the excitation winding of this relay which is connected between terminal 30 and a pole of battery 1, in place of the horn 3 shown. The consumption of the relay is, in general, 1 to 2 watts, while the total consumption for the two dipped beam headlamps and the set of side lights is, in general, to a hundred watts. We see that the resistance introduced into the circuit of the relay by the filaments of the lamps is quite to fact negligible.

When switch 2 is in position Il and the user actuates the foot switch to close the additional contact, it is seen that the acoustic warning device cannot be activated, because its two terminals are connected to the same pole of the battery. On the other hand, the connection established between the blade 25 and the terminal 31 has the effect of supplying the dipped headlights 5 during the closing of the additional contact, which allows optical signs to be made. When switch 2 is in position III, the acoustic warning device 3 still cannot be actuated by the additional contact, since its two terminals are connected to the same pole of the battery.

It of course that one could provide another additional contact, for example ple in the form of a push button fixed to the dashboard of the vehicle, to allow the use of the acoustic warning device during night traffic, that is to say for positions II and III of switch 2.

On the other hand, it is clear that terminal 31 could be connected to the power supply of large headlights 6 instead of being to that of the dipped beam headlights 5. The additional contact could obviously be arranged differently on the foot switch and at least some of the terminals < B> 30 to 32 could in particular be fixed to the cover (not shown) of the switch, this cover possibly being of insulating material.
