Die Oxyalkylgruppen können ein einziges Kohlenstoffatom und eine einzige Oxygruppe, mehr als ein Kohlenstoffatom und eine ein zige Oxygruppe oder mehr als ein Kohlen- Stoffatom und mehr als eine Oxy gruppe ent halten;

Process for the preparation of novel dioxy-di- (arylamino) -anthraquinones. The present invention relates to on pull, from water-soluble groups pen free dioxy-di- (arylamino) -antliraehinone, which, such.

contain two a-position oxy groups and two a-position oxyalkylphenylamino groups, one oxy group and one oxyalkylphenylamino group each being bonded to the same six-membered ring of the anthraquinone nucleus.
These new dioxy-di- (ary laniino) -antliraehinonen can be obtained if one has a llol of an anthraclinone which has two a-ate oxy groups and two a-position substitutents that can be replaced by arylamino groups. st,
With ? Moles of a phenylamine, the benzene nucleus of which is substituted by an oxyalkyl group, and the starting materials are selected so that the process end materials are free from water-solubilizing groups.
For example, those dioxyanthraehinones which contain nitro groups or halogen atoms such as bromine or chlorine as replaceable substituents are suitable as starting materials.
From the above information it can be seen: borrowed that in the present process either 1,5-dioxyanthraquinones, which have the interchangeable substituents in the 4- and 8-position, or 1,8-dioxyanthraquinones, which have the interchangeable substituents in 4 and 5-position are to be used as starting materials.
Examples of such compounds are 1,5-dioxy-4,8-dichloro- or -4,8-dibromoanthraquinone, 1,5-dioxy-4,8-dinitroanthraquinone, 1,8-dioxy-4,5-dichloro - anthraehinone and 1,8-dioxy-4,5-dinitroanthraquinone mentioned.
To replace the halogen atoms or nitro groups with the oxyalkylphenylamino groups, use is made of oxyalkyl-aminobenzenes, i.e. compounds of the benzene series that are free from water-solubilizing groups such as sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid groups,
@velche are substituted on the one hand by a nucleus-bound primary amino group and on the other hand by a nucleus-bound oxyalkyl group. The two substituents can be in the o-, m- or p-position to one another, and the benzene nucleus can, if necessary, further substituents, for. B. low molecular weight alkyl or alkoxy groups, halogen atoms such as chlorine or other oxyalkyl groups.
The oxyalkyl groups can contain a single carbon atom and a single oxy group, more than one carbon atom and a single oxy group, or more than one carbon atom and more than one oxy group;
they can, for example, correspond to one of the following conditions: a.) They contain a single oxy group and 1 to 3 carbon atoms. The oxy group can be bound to the ss-standing, that is, the carbon atom separated from the benzene nucleus by a single carbon atom, as is the case for the
B-Oxyäthylgrtppe with the composition -CHF CH.OH applies.
The oxy group can also be bonded to the u-carbon atom. This is the case with the oxyalkyl radicals of the formula
EMI0002.0023
the case where n is a number in value. of at most 3 means. These oxyalkyl groups accordingly have one of the compositions.
EMI0002.0026
b) The oxyalkyl group contains so many carbon atoms and oxy groups that the number of carbon atoms and twice the number of oxy groups are at least 6.
If the oxyalkyl group contains four or more carbon atoms, the presence of a single oxy group is sufficient to satisfy this condition. However, more than one oxy group and possibly other groups, such as oxo groups or oxygen bridges (ethers), can also be present in residues of this type. Examples are the oxyalkyl groups of the composition
EMI0002.0043
mentioned.
In the case of oxyalkyl radicals with fewer than four carbon atoms, at least two oxy groups are required in order to fulfill the condition mentioned. The remainder of the formulas can be used here as examples

\ be called. The oxyalkyl-aniino- benzenes which can be used as starting materials in the present process, eg. B. those which contain the above-mentioned oxyalkyl radicals are known in part, and they can be prepared by methods known per se.
Likewise, the substitution of the convertible into aryl amino groups in the dioxyanthraquinones by oxyalkyl phenylamino groups, z.
B. the Umsetzun -, the dioxi-dihalogen or dioxy-dinitro-anthraquinones with the oxy alkylaminobenzenes, take place in a manner known per se, but with an appropriate quantitative ratio and suitable reaction conditions to ensure that da.ss an .
two reactive substituents of the anthraquinone molecule the exchange takes place. An excess over the theoretically required amount of oxyalkyl aminobenzene is therefore generally indicated.
When using dioxy-dihalogenant.hrachinonen as starting materials, a Rcaktionsmedhun proves to be advantageous. In addition to water, it also contains a water-soluble solvent such as methanol or ltlianol, the reaction being expediently carried out in a closed vessel at temperatures of over 100 and with the addition of an acid-binding agent, e.g. B. a .Alkalihydroxydes and a suitable catalyst such. B. copper performs.
But you can also work practically anhydrous, in an inert organic solvent such as nitrobenzene, with acid-binding agents such as alkali carbonates and / or alkali acetates and catalysts such as copper and / or copper salts also being used. Due to their high boiling point, some organic solvents allow a reaction in open vessels, that is, under normal pressure.
If one starts from dioxy-dinitro-antbraehino- uen, it is generally advisable to carry out the reaction in an organic solvent without the addition of water. 1:
The addition of acid-binding agents and catalysts is generally not necessary (Ii-. Nitrobenzene, o-nitrotoluene, pyridine, quinoline, 1) inlethylformamide and diethylformamide are mentioned as advantageous solvents.
In some cases it is also possible to carry out the reaction without an organic solvent. and to be carried out without or with very little water.
The new dioxv-di- (ary 1-aryrino) -anthra.chinones obtainable in this way have the composition indicated at the outset and correspond to the formula provided the anthraquinone nucleus does not also contain substituents in PI

where N is an oxyalkylpllenylamillo group and one F is an oxy group, and. the other Y is an oxyalkylphen.-lamino-group, preferably the same as N.
The products obtainable according to the present process are suitable for dyeing various materials. For example, they can be used as pigments. Above all, they are suitable, especially after a suitable paste, which is also carried out with a reprecipitation, e.g.
B. one of sulfuric acid can be combined for dyeing and printing structures made of cellulose esters, superpolyamides and super-polyurethanes, and optionally also made of poly vinyl compounds or polyesters of aromatic dicarboxylic acids, especially terephthalic acid. In particular, they can be used with advantage for dyeing and printing the acetate artificial silk, and dyeings are obtained that are characterized by very good light and gas fastness.
For some uses, especially for dyeing acetate rayon, mixtures of different products obtainable by the present process, or mixtures of such and similar products, prove to be particularly valuable. Such mixtures can be obtained either by mixing the finished, uniform products or in such a way that the reaction is carried out with mixtures of different starting materials of the type described at the beginning. For example, a mixture of 1,5 and 1,8-dioxyanthraquinones which are further substituted in the 4,8 or 4,5-position can be used together with.
to react an aminooxyalkylbenzene, or a single anthraquinone compound of the type indicated can be reacted with various aminooxyalkylbenzenes.
