Dies führt jedoch vornehmlich bei anocliseh oxydiertem Aluminium hohen Rein- lieitsgrades zu einer unerwünschten Verände- run f-,- < der Oberfläche der Oxv dsehieht in dem '-zirine, dass diese eine weiche Beschaffenheit erhält. In diesem Zustande ist die Oberflächen- seliielit nicht genügend abriebfest;

Process for producing high-gloss surfaces on aluminum and aluminum alloys Various processes are known for producing high-gloss surfaces on aluminum and aluminum alloys, which either work on a purely chemical basis or with. With the help of the electric current, electrolytic reactions lead to an increased gloss of the surface.
In the chemical processes, which are known to have the advantage of less equipment and simpler handling, electrolytic baths are more or less alkaline or acidic baths, the effect of which on the metal surface is abrasive and at the same time smoothing producing a stronger shine.
It has now been observed when using brightening baths containing nickel, hydrogen, ammonium and fluorine ions that the brightening effect can be improved by adding substances that have an inhibitory effect in such solutions. In addition, it has been shown that such additives result in reduced abrasion while still having a good leveling effect and thus save metal and polishing solution.
Accordingly, the present invention relates to a method for producing high-gloss surfaces on aluminum, in particular pure aluminum, and its alloys, preferably from those with magnesium, in solutions containing nitrate, hydrogen, fluorine and ammonium ions, at an elevated temperature It is indicated that inhibitors are added to these acidic solutions.
The effectiveness of the additives is particularly evident when the lead salts, which may have been advantageously added to the baths mentioned, are present in such quantities that the lead ion concentration is 0.05 to 0.5 grams per liter.
A bath solution contains, for example, 1.6-2.7, preferably 2.1 gramol nitric acid, 1.8-3; 5, preferably 2.8 gramol ammonium, _ 3.5-7.0, preferably 5, per liter 6 gramol hydrofluoric acid, 2.5 X 10-4 to 25 X 10-4 gramol lead nitrate, 0.5-2 / 0, preferably 1.0 / a inhibitors. The bath can be produced by adding appropriate amounts of commercially pure nitric acid,
commercially available pure hydrofluoric acid and advantageously aqueous ammonia solution is added or ammonia gas is introduced into the dilute acid solution. With this relatively weakly concentrated, low-viscosity and therefore cheap solution in the brewery, it is possible, with only a short treatment time, to produce high-gloss surfaces on pure and pure aluminum and its alloys, especially those with.
Magnesium content. The short treatment time also makes it possible to move the workpieces to and fro during treatment in the solution, preferably by hand, to avoid the build-up of C blown bubbles.
As has been shown, with the addition of inhibitor, a directional reflection capacity of 82% compared to 79.8 / o without any addition can be achieved, with the weight loss produced during the treatment being only 24 grams per square meter, accordingly a decrease in thickness of 9 thousandths of a millimeter,
while the inhibitor-free bath causes a weight loss of 51 grams per square meter, corresponding to a 20 thousandth of a millimeter die reduction. In this way, even with the surface treatment according to the invention, the dimensional accuracy of precisely machined work pieces can be better preserved, especially since a loss of thickness of, for example, 9 thousandths of a millimeter can be completely compensated for in the case of a conventional protective oxidation to be connected.
The additives to be used are preferably those substances which cause attack-reducing circulation without simultaneous formation of protective eyes. In particular, good results are achieved with the addition of, for example, dextrin, gum arabic, gelatin, glue, lignosulfonic acid and its salts, artificial tanning agents, and nicotine. Ni cotine sulfate, amines such as amylamine, furthermore dibenzyl sulfide and the like.
It recommends. to add these: additives in an amount of 0.5 to 20/9, preferably 1%.
The process can also be used for homogeneous alloys - # Iaanesiuni alloys based on pure aluminum. maximum?, 7% magnesium. It was further established that completely colorless, transparent protective covers, which do not affect the gloss in any way, can be aimed if the objects are chemically oxidized after the chemical treatment.
This procedure is. Compared to com-bined gloss and electrolytic Oxy dation processes more economical and easier to use, especially for smaller mass-produced items, such. B. in the treatment of housings for Elektrolytkondensa gates, bottle caps, stamped parts and similar union objects.
Using this method, a protective layer can also be achieved on reflectors which is practically impossible with the metallic C-luster. influenced.
It is also possible to provide objects made of any materials with a high-gloss, chemically or mechanically resistant surface by covering them with a thin sheet or a thicker foil made of pure aluminum, i.e. an aluminum with a purity level of at least 99.8, in particular over < B> 99.9 preferably over 99.95%, are coated, whereby the aluminum,
in particular for the purpose of increasing the hardness, an addition of up to about 2.7, but preferably only 0.5 / o magnesium can be included, and the objects are then chemically polished and then anodically oxidized.
The objects to be coated can be made of any materials, such as. B. ge suitable plastics exist or, for example, in the injection molding process, be made of metal. The method can be used primarily in the manufacture of vehicle parts and vehicle fittings.
If other than aluminum alloys are used for the object to be coated, it is advisable to provide at least the areas that remain free with a protective coating for shine and anodic oxidation before being introduced into the baths.
It is also possible to insert a plastic sealing compound between the object and the L: coating, which if necessary can be made such that it hardens by chemical or heat action, whereby a solid connection is simultaneously established between the object and the coating. It can be particularly advantageous to insert a layer of paper or a similar soft material between the object and the material, possibly impregnated with the above-mentioned binders. is.
This is the only way to avoid any unevenness of the Kerinverstflckes on the surface of the coating.
Sehichten obtained by anodic oxidation on aluminum and aluminum alloys are advantageously boiled out in water in the usual way for the purpose of sealing.
However, especially in the case of anocidally oxidized aluminum with a high degree of purity, this leads to an undesirable change in the surface of the oxide in the zirine that it has a soft texture. In this condition the surface selielite is not sufficiently abrasion resistant;
furthermore, when rubbing off, milky cloudiness of the harder oxide layer underneath occurs, in that parts or the soft layer are pressed into the pores of the harder base and you can see from there. Not. let more remove.
This phenomenon can be completely prevented by including the anodised parts after boiling. an aqueous ammonium bifluoride chromate solution.
Solutions with contents of 0.3 to 0.90 / 0, preferably 0.61 / 0 NH3, 0.7 to 2.1%, preferably 1.4% HF, 0.6 to 1.8 have proven useful %, preferably 1.2% Cr03,
obtained, for example, by mixing 2 kg of 70% hydrofluoric acid, 2.4 kg of 5% ammonia and 4 kg of sodium elironiate in 100 liters of water.
The duration of the treatment should preferably be at least 12 minutes.
Instead of these solutions, general means can be used which have a loosening effect on the heavily livdratised, sewn-up layers, while they do not attack the less hi-dratised layers.
For example, nitric acid is used on its own, preferably in a concentration between about 25-400 / a or an aqueous solution containing nitric acid and chromic acid, the treatment at temperatures above 20 C, in particular at 20-25 C for 1 -5 minutes, preferably 3 minutes.
Example 1 A workpiece made of a stainless steel alloy with 0.5% magnesium was treated for 10 seconds at 50 ° C. in a bath containing 13% by weight.
Nitric acid, 16 percent by weight ammonium bifluoride, 0.02 percent by weight lead nitrate and an addition of 1% gum arabic. The glossy surface showed
a reflectivity of 82% with a weight loss of the workpiece of 24 grams per square meter, corresponding to a decrease in thickness of 9 thousandths of a millimeter.
In a bath without the addition of inhibitors, the corresponding values were: 79.8% reflectivity - 54 grams per square meter of weight loss - 20 thousandths of a millimeter decrease in thickness.
Example 2 Reflectors made of 0.8 mm thick aluminum sheet with a racing content of at least 99.91 / o are treated as follows to achieve a high level of directional reflection 1.
