A time-setting device for a timepiece The present invention relates to a device for setting the time for a timepiece, mounted in the bottom of the case of said part. Such a device is intended in particular for electric watches, in which the motive power is supplied by a battery; it can also be applied to self-winding watches, which practically never need to be wound by hand, so that the manual winding device can be dispensed with without inconvenience. It is then advantageous to mount the time-setting device in the back of the case and to remove the winding and time-setting crown.
The device according to the invention is characterized by a crown rotatably mounted in the bottom of the box by a clutch button guided in a bore of this crown and capable of being displaced axially inward from the outside. , by a return spring tending to push the clutch button outwards, and by a clutch spring, actuated by the clutch button, engaging with a driving wheel connected to the timer of the timepiece and allowing the time of the hands to be set when the clutch button is in the depressed position.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment and a variant of the subject of the invention. Fig. 1 is a rear plan view of a watch equipped with this embodiment, the device being in the disengaged position.

Fig. 8 is a plan view of the crown spring, on a very reduced scale.
Fig. 9 is an elevational view of the res out of the crown shown in FIG. 8.
Fig. 10 is a sectional view of a fragment of a watch equipped with the time-setting device according to the aforementioned variant, the scale being the same as that of FIGS. 3 to 6. We see in fig. 1 a watch whose case includes a back 1 which can be screwed into a caseband 2 by engaging a special key in notches 3 of the caseback 1. This watch does not include a winding and time-setting crown. Its winding is carried out by means not forming part of the invention, for example by means of an oscillating weight with limited stroke or of an electric motor supplied by a battery.
As for setting the time, it is done using the device which will be described.
A crown 4 is rotatably mounted in the bottom 1 of the case. Its adjustment is obtained on a frustoconical seat so that the external pressure which can be exerted on the crown 4 increases the tightening of the latter in the case, that is to say that this truncated cone has its large base located on the side of the exterior face of the base 1. The crown 4 has on its upper face an annular rib 5 which projects slightly from the exterior face of the base 1.
We could also ensure that the rib 5 comes flush with the outer face of the base 1, by giving the latter a slightly greater thickness and by leaving a recess with a radius slightly greater than that of the crown 4 .
The crown 4 is held in place by means of a washer 6 fitted with a collar 7. The latter is threaded externally and is screwed into a corresponding thread of the crown 4, by pinching an elastic membrane 8 which completely isolates the movement. clockwork from the outside. The tightening of the crown 4 in the base 1 is ensured by a spring 9, pressing against the outer part of the washer 6 and against the inner face of the base 1. The spring 9, shown separately in fig. 8 and 9, has the shape of a washer of corrugated profile; it could also be split.
A seal 10 is placed in the seal between the movable ring 4 and the base 1. A very good seal is thus ensured.
The crown wheel 4 has at its center a bore 11 in which is guided a clutch button 12 capable of moving axially in said bore 11. An external control member makes it possible to actuate this clutch button. In the embodiment shown in figs. 1 and 2, the control member is constituted by a clutch key 13, formed of a semicircular plate having a central cutout 14 and two pivots 15 rotating in holes 16 made in the rib 5 of the crown 4.
To set up the clutch key 13, it suffices to bring its pivots 15 closer to one another, which is possible because of the elasticity created by the cutout 14, then to introduce these pi vots in the holes 16, the elasticity of the plate 13 then keeping them in place. The key 13 has two ears 17 located on the side op posed to its circular part, these ears serving to actuate the clutch button for setting the time, as explained below.
Two springs 18 and 19 are fixed to the washer 6, inside the collar 7. The spring 18, called the key spring, is shown separately in figs. 3 and 4; it consists of a flat serge and an inner tongue 20 directed upwards when the spring 18 is in the free state. As for the spring 19, disposed below the spring 18, it is hereinafter referred to as the clutch spring and is shown separately in FIGS. 5 and 6; it includes a flat serge and an interior tongue 21 directed first upwards, then downwards, when the spring 19 is in the free state. The tongue 21 ends in a forked part.
The tongue 21 of the clutch spring 19 is intended to engage with a drive wheel 22, the upper face of which has grooves 23 or other surface unevenness giving grip to the tongue 21. The wheel 22 is connected to the timer of the watch, for example as shown in fig. 10. The axis 24 of the mobile 22 pivots in the bridge 25 and carries at its inner end a toothed wheel 26 meshing with a reference 27. The axis 28 of the latter pivots in the plate 29 and carries at its other end the timer pinion 30 which meshes in a known manner with the hour wheel 31 carrying the hour hand 32.
On pinion 30 is driven out the timer wheel 33 meshing with the carriageway 34 secured to the minute hand 35. The barrel let 36 meshes in the usual way with the center pinion 37 secured to the center wheel 38. The dial is designated by 39 and the crystal by 40. It is clear that the drive mobile 22 could be connected in another way to the timer of the watch. The device described and shown operates as follows. In the position shown in FIG. 1, the clutch key 13 is parallel to the bottom plane 1. This is the disengaged position, that is to say in which no part of the time-setting mechanism is engaged with the clockwork movement.
To go from this position to the working position, it suffices to lift the key 13 and bring it to the position shown in fig. 2, that is to say perpendicularly to the plane of the bottom 1. The key 13 remains in this position, because the ears 17 rest by their edges against the button 12.
The lifting of the clutch key 13 causes the lugs 17 to descend, which therefore push the clutch button 12 against the action of the key spring 18. It is seen in FIG. 2, in phantom lines, the original position of the tongue 20 of the spring 18. During this movement, the membrane 8 is also deformed downward. The button 12 is guided in the bore 11 of the crown 4. The tongue 20, pushed back by the button 12, in turn pushes down the tongue 21 of the clutch spring 19, which engages, by its end. fork-shaped, with the drive mobile 22.
If you turn the clutch key 13 by hand around an axis perpendicular to the bottom 1 of the box, parts 4, 6, 8, 12, 18 and 19 also start to turn and the teeth of the tongue 21 does not take long to enter one of the grooves 23 of the mobile 22 and to drive this mobile. By means of the aforementioned mobiles 26 and 27, the rotation is transmitted to the timer of the watch, which enables time setting. Note that this time setting can be done in both directions (forward or backward), since, depending on the direction of rotation given to key 13, it is one or the other of the teeth of the fork. of the tongue 21 which acts on the drive mobile 22.
When the key 13 is folded into its rest position, the key spring 18, functioning as a return spring, pushes the button 12 outwards, via the membrane 8, so that the spring of clutch 19 returns, by virtue of its elasticity, to its original position, in which it is no longer in engagement with the mobile 22.
According to a variant, the springs 18 and 19 could have come from a single piece. Instead of being mounted eccentrically in the bottom 1 of the box, the time-setting device could as well be placed in the center of this bottom.
In the variant shown in FIG. 10, the clutch key 13 is omitted and the device is acted upon by means of a coin, a knife blade, etc. The crown 4 has for this purpose two slots 41 located in the extension of one another and opening into the housing of the clutch button 12. By inserting the coin into the slots 41, the button is lowered. clutch 12, which deforms the springs 18 and 19 and brings the tongue 21 into engagement with the drive mobile 22. The rotation of the crown 4 also allows in this way to operate the time setting of the timepiece.
