Description

Process for the production of an iodine preparation. The main patent describes a process for the production of an iodine preparation with low toxicity, for the production of which a water-soluble, polymeric N-vinyl-pyrrolidone with a minimum K value of 10 is used. a maximum of 10 / o of the polymer weight is brought into intimate contact with a sufficient amount of free iodine.

It has now been found that the like iodine preparations also work with. produce higher iodine contents, which also contain no free iodine and are therefore free of irritation, provided the iodine content does not exceed 35% of the polymer weight.

The present invention relates to. thus a process for the production of an iodine preparation with. low toxicity, which is characterized. is that water-soluble polymeric N-vinyl-pyrrolidone, which has at least the K value 10, is brought into intimate contact with an amount of free iodine amounting to between 10 and 35% of the polymer weight.

The preparation according to the invention can, as described in the main patent, by adding a polyvinylpyrrolidone solution to an iodine solution, by thoroughly triturating solid iodine with polyvinylpyrrolidone or by suspending the dry polyvinylpyrrolidone in an iodine solution whose solvent does not dissolve the polymer able to take place.

It seems, however, that the preparations made by dry rubbing the components do not contain all iodine in the form of a compound if the iodine content is above about 20%, so that this method of production can only be used for preparations with a lower iodine content.

The product obtained is a brown-red powder that is clearly soluble in water and does not smell of iodine. It is used, preferably in dissolved form, above all for local disinfection, but is also suitable for parenteral use and general sanitary purposes.

Example: 100 g polyvinylpyrrolidone with a K value of 30 and 18 g iodine were ground in a ball mill until completely homogeneous. The brown powder obtained dissolved smoothly and clearly in water. Applied to the skin as a 10% solution, the preparation had no irritative effect.
