Description
Fixer, especially for the treatment of bone fractures.
The present invention relates to a fixator, in particular for the treatment of bone fractures, by the method of screws screwed into the bone, intended to secure said screws externally and comprising at least two clamping members joined by a rigid union bar, characterized in that each of said members has a part comprising.
two jaws between which the pins are held, and another part intended to be coupled to the union bar, the latter part comprising a housing constituted by two cheeks between which is placed a slotted spherical part crossed by said union bar, one of the jaws having a circular housing inside which is retained one of the ends of the chain of the cheeks of the case, which can even be rotated in order to give it different orientations with respect to said jaw, the union bar being locked in the chosen position by bringing the two free ends of the cheeks of the housing together,
this coming together causing the other two ends of said cheeks to move apart, which are then locked in their housing.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the fixator forming the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front view of a clamping member and of one end of the union bar.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the member shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side view, in section.
The fixator comprises at least two similar clamping members, one of which, shown at 1, is joined to the other (not shown) by a connecting bar 2. This bar passes through a slotted spherical part constituting a ball joint and comprising two parts 3 and 4 each held in one of the imprints presented by the two cheeks 5 and 6 of a housing. In order to block the union bar 2, these cheeks can be tightened strongly against the spherical part by means of a screw 7 engaged in a threaded hole made in the cheek 6; this tightening can be carried out either by turning the fins 8 with the hand, or using a socket wrench engaged on a head 9.
The cylindrical end of a screw 10, penetrating into a hole in the part 4 of the ball joint, makes it possible to prevent said part from rotating about the longitudinal axis of the bar 2. The spherical part 3,4 could not be completely split and act by elasticity.
The bodies 1 each have two jaws 11,12 joined by two clamping screws 13,14. The two contact surfaces of said jaws are provided with an insulating coating having parallel grooves in which the pins are introduced and then clamped (not shown in the drawing).
The jaw 11 comprises a boss 11a in which is formed a cup inside which are introduced the two cheeks 5 and 6 of the housing. They are retained in said bowl by a collar 15 which they have at their end, this collar collar being engaged in a circular groove 16 formed at the bottom of the bowl. When the screw 7 is loosened, the case can be rotated inside the bowl with a view to giving it different orientations with respect to the jaw which carries it.
By tightening the screw 7 strongly, it brings together the two free ends of the cheeks of the housing, and the separation of the two opposite ends; one thus obtains at the same time the blocking of the union bar in the selected position and the blocking of the housing with respect to the jaws.
An annular spring 17 makes it possible to retain the union bar 2 in the ball joint when the screw 7 is loosened, and, when loosening the screw 7, it sufficiently tightens the ends of the cheeks engaged in the cup, so that the housing can rotate without difficulty.
The fixator described allows the union bar 2 to be made a complete turn around the axis of rotation of the housing.
Figs. 1 and 2 show in broken lines the positions that bar 2 can occupy.
