Device for drying stereotype matrices by means of infrared rays. The invention relates to a device for drying moist and embossed stereotype matrices which have been produced from a typographical original form.
The device is designed according to the invention in such a way that drying takes place by means of two groups of emitters, which are arranged on both sides of a cylindrically curved wire lattice carrier intended to receive the die, the intensities of the emitter groups being adjustable independently of one another. The infrared rays are deeply absorbed from both sides of the matrices and converted into heat, where the entire thickness of the matrices and especially the attached arms on the back of the matrices are dried.
In an expedient embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, the vapors produced during the drying process will escape through an orderly, expediently dimensioned exhaust in the upper part of the device, while plenty of dry fresh air can always flow in through the completely open underside of the housing, so that a natural draft is created which is rapid Allow drying.
The front wall of the device is preferably designed to be removable in order to quickly get to the lamps and connections, for the purpose of replacing defective lamps and checking the electrical installation. By means of a timer attached in this front wall, the drying time can be set continuously and for the upper and lower heater group an identical or a different drying time from 0 to a certain maximum amount. Furthermore, after switching on the electric current for the infrared radiator and starting the timer, the operating status can be displayed by a signal lamp.
When the drying time set on the timer has expired, the heaters are switched off and the signal lamp goes out. This drying device is ready for use immediately after switching on the infrared heater and does not require any preheating like the die dryers previously used. electric radiators.
This innovation completely eliminates the risk of the matrix becoming brown or even burning. So one is no longer dependent on the attentiveness of the operator of this drying device, and this is important for modern newspaper printing operations.
In the upper part of the housing one or more die pockets can be provided to keep them warm or to store getrock Neten dies.
In the drawing, the execution of the drying device is illustrated using an exemplary embodiment from.
Fig. 1 shows a cross section through the drying device, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of Fig. 1. The device used to hold the matrices consists of the housing a, in which the drying radiator b is semicircular on carriers c on both sides of a semicylindrical shape bent wire mesh die carrier (L are arranged, as well as the reflector plates e and f, which reflect the light rays on the die.
The die k is pushed onto the die carrier d from the side through a semicircular opening h located in the side wall g, which can be closed laterally by a hinged cover i. On the front wall there is also a timer l and a signal lamp n1. The dry fresh air enters through the large opening n on the underside of the housing, and the moist air flow ent escapes through the exhaust pipe o upwards. Openings p are provided for air circulation in the carriers c and in the reflector plates e and f .
The die pockets q and r on the device are used to keep warm or to store getrock Neten dies. The intensities of the radiator groups on both sides of the matrix can be regulated independently of one another.
