als chemisch notwendig wäre. Dieser unerwünschte Wasserübersehuss wirkt sich insofern nachteilig aus, als er während desAbb@inde- und < Au;

Process for the production of mortar and concrete. Many hydraulic binders, especially cements, show only imperfect wettability by water. The aggregates, such as sand and gravel for example, which are added to the cement when it is used, offer more or less resistance to wetting by the mixing water. For this reason one is forced in technology to work with much larger amounts of water when preparing plastic types of mortar or concrete,
than would be chemically necessary. This undesirable excess of water has a disadvantageous effect in that it occurs during the Abb @ inde- und <Au;
The drying process of the mortar or concrete evaporates, leaving behind pores, which usually pull through the mortar or concrete in the form of capillaries. These pores or capillaries are probably the reason why the strength and water permeability of the set cement, mortar or concrete leave something to be desired.
It is already known that these undesirable properties of hydraulic binders can be improved by adding small amounts of so-called plasticizers, i.e. substances that reduce surface tension, to them or to the mixing water required for their processing.
Such substances, which have already been recommended for the above purpose, are, for example, the higher molecular weight protein breakdown products, humic acids, lignosulfonic acid salts, oleic acid salts, stearic soaps, resin soaps or certain triethanol compounds.
The present invention relates to a method for the production of mortar and concrete, which - is characterized by the fact that sulfonic acids containing aliphatic hydrocarbon chains or salts thereof are used as plaiting agents with surface tension-reducing effect, namely those
in which the hydrocarbon radicals contained in them contain 8 to 20 carbon atoms. With these new plasticizing agents, which are expediently used in an amount of 0.2 to 0.314 (calculated on the weight of the hydraulic binder).,
there is an improvement in the mortar und.Betons in terms of their strength properties and impermeability to water, which goes much further than was achievable with the previously known means.
The plasticizers can have a straight or branched aliphatic hydrocarbon chain which contains approximately the same number of carbon atoms as are contained in the soap-forming fatty acids, that is to say about 8 to 20 carbon atoms. They can also contain an aromatic nucleus, such as a benzene or naphthalene nucleus.
The number of their sulfonic acid graves is preferably 1 to 3. Higher molecular weight aliphatic sulfonic acids of the type mentioned above or their salts have become easily available, for example, under the brand name Mersolate.
These mersolates are to be understood as meaning compounds which are formed on the action of sulfur dioxide and chlorine on aliphatic hydrocarbons, possibly - under the influence of short-wave light, and subsequent saponification of the sulfochlorides formed in the process.
Instead of these mersolates, however, other aliphatic sulfonic acids which are similarly composed but obtainable in other ways can also be used in the manner according to the invention. Reference should be made here, for example, to the mahogany acids obtained in the course of acidic mineral oil refining.
In accordance with the invention to be used Alkylarylsdl- fonsäuren or their salts can easily be prepared by treating aliphatic hydrocarbons with halogens, especially chlorine, the halides formed according to the principle of the known Friedel-grafftschen reaction with aromatic compounds, such as the Example benzene, toluene or naphthalene, condensed and the resulting alkylaryl compounds finally sulfonated.
The effect of these substances when used according to the invention is, among other things, that significantly less mixing water is required for the production of plastic cement, mortar or concrete mixtures, and that the mortar or concrete produced with it has a significantly higher bending and has compressive strength and ge lower water permeability than in the absence of these additives.
In this context, it should be mentioned as a further advantage of the new additives that the progress that can be achieved with their help does not entail any disadvantages, for example a slowdown in the binding process of the hydraulic binding agent when using a number of the previously known cement sealants can be observed, is bought.
The sulfonic acids or sulfonates to be used according to the invention can be used in pure form or in the form of their mixtures with one another, and also in a mixture with other cement sealants, such as, for example, with protein fission products of the known type or with hydrolysis products, of which the brand name Vinsol Resin well-known product should be specially mentioned who used the.
It must be regarded as surprising that, when using such mixtures, one can very often not only achieve an addition of the beneficial effects of the individual constituents, but also an additional further improvement. The present invention is to be explained further by means of a few examples.
Examples: A mortar mixture consisting of one part by weight of cement with 6 parts by weight of mixed-grain sand is mixed with about 12 to 13% water to form a plastic mortar. The bending tensile beams and test plates for the water permeability test prescribed in the concrete test standards are made from this mortar.
Two comparative tests are made, in which pure water, respectively. a solution of 3.5 g of the sodium alkyl sulfonic acid known under the trade name Mersolat per liter of water was used. All samples were stored in the molds for a day and then under damp cloths for 28 days until the strength and water permeability tests were carried out.
Examination of the specimens for strength resulted in the following values:

By varying the amount of alkyl sulfonate added, the effect of the same can of course be strengthened or weakened.
2. A commercially available Portland cement was used for these experiments and a sand mixture was used as an additive, consisting of 20% fine sand with a grain diameter of up to 0.02 min 40% quartz sand 0,
7 to 1 mm grain diameter 30% quartz sand 1 to 2 mm grain diameter 10% quartz sand 2 to 3 mm grain diameter.
a) First, a zero test was carried out in which 1 part of Portland cement was mixed with 6 parts of the sand mixture described above and mixed with water to form an easily workable mortar. From this test plates were produced in the usual way, which were tested for their water permeability and for their flexural tension and compressive strength after storage for 7 days under damp cloths and 21 days of storage in air.
The in, of the resulting table under No. 1 are the mean values from 9 individual tests.
h) The same cement-sand mixture would now be made up with an aqueous solution which contained 71 g V insol resin per 100 kg cement. On the mortar obtained in this way, test panels were produced in the same way as described under a), and these were tested for their strength and water permeability. The values obtained are listed under No. 2 in the table below.
c,) A building water containing 36 g of Vinsol resin and 36 g of sodium alkyl sulfonic acid Mersolat H was used for 100 kg of cement. Otherwise, the procedure was the same as that described under a).
The values obtained during the strength test are listed under number 3 in the following overview, d) An aqueous solution of an alkylbenzenesulfonate of German origin, Basopal branded product, was used to mix the cement-sand mixture and otherwise proceeded as under a) . The values determined here are listed under No. 4 in the following table.
e) The cement-sand mixture was made up in an aqueous solution containing 36 g of alkylbenzenesulfonate and 36 g of alliylsulfonate per 100 kg of cement and treated further as described under a). The results of the strength are shown in No. 5 of the following table:
