B. in Benzin.
1 Process for the production of an etherified formaldehyde condensation product. The subject of the present patent is a process for the production of a mixture of etherified melamine-formaldehyde condensation products, which contains on average at least 3 oxymethyl groups etherified with a soya alcohol per mole of melamine,
by etherification of a mixture of methoxymethylmelamines containing on average at least 3 methoxy groups per mole of melamine with an alcohol mixture, as can be obtained by reducing soybean oil with sodium and alcohol, in the presence of a catalyst of acidic nature, characterized in that
that the Um- Ä.therung to be carried out in the heat is carried out under practically anhydrous conditions until at least 3 mol of methyl alcohol are split off per 1 mol of melamine and for the most part removed from the reaction mixture by distillation, and that the reaction mixture from Catalyst is freed.
The following example is intended to explain the invention in more detail. The details in percent are percentages by weight and the temperatures in degrees are degrees Celsius. Otherwise, reference is made to the statements in the main patent.
Example: About 3/10 1M1 = 117 g of a mixture of methoxymethyl melamines with an average content of about 5.3 moles of methoxy groups per mole of melamine are mixed with 1.8 moles = 477 g of soya alcohol , the production of which is described below, and 12 g of phthalic anhydride are heated in a stirred flask equipped with a thermometer in an oil bath.
The Ap paratur is seen with a descending condenser with template and also with a template cooled with carbonic acid-acetone and is kept under a weak vacuum (about 400 to 500 mm Hg column). Between 120-155, 46g of methanol distilled over in the course of about 21/2 hours.
The temperature is then increased using a good vacuum (a few mm Hg column or less). In the rising cooler, crystals of pure phthalic anhydride form. At the same time, at an internal temperature of about 250 114g , unreacted soya alcohol distills over,
and the residue obtained is 446 g of a mixture of oxymethyl melamines etherified with soya alcohol, which contains on average about 4.7 mol of ethereally bound soya alcohol per mole of melamine and is a light-colored oil with a viscosity of about 300 centipoise.
After four hours of heating to about 250, the viscosity increases to about 800 centipoises. The product has with common borrowed siccatives, z. B. 0.2% lead and 0.04% cobalt siccative, mixed, excellent drying properties,
by becoming dust-free in 2 hours and drying through in about 12 hours, whereby clear or pigmented coatings can be achieved, which have good resistance to the weathering with the Atlas Weatherorneter. The new product is insoluble in water and lower alcohols, but readily soluble in aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, e. B. in gasoline.
In the above example, a soya alcohol mixture was used as the soya alcohol oil, which was prepared from soya oil by reduction with sodium and alcohol and which had the following constants: acid number and saponification number = 0; Iodine number = about 130; Hydroxyl number = 215; its average molecular weight is calculated to be about 266.
