EMI0001.0004
process for the production of 2-acetoxyfuran. The invention relates to. a process for the preparation of 2-Aeetoxyfurarr:
EMI0001.0004
this is a previously unknown substance that serves as an intermediate, for example, for the manufacture of ss-formylpropionic acid. ß-Formylpropionic acid is used as an intermediate in organic chemical synthesis, especially for the production of plant hormones.
The process according to the invention is characterized in that 2,5-diacetoxy-2,5-dihydrofuran is heated for pyrolysis.
The pyrolysis can be carried out at a temperature of 480 to 500, for example. will. During pyrolysis, 2-acetoxy-furan is formed according to the following reaction scheme:
EMI0001.0016
The 2-acetoxy furan formed is separated off as a colorless stable liquid by fractional distillation of the reaction product in vacuo. By hydrolysis of 2-acetoxy fiLran, s-formylpropionic acid is formed according to the following equation:
EMI0001.0026
The invention is illustrated by the following exemplary embodiment: 50 g of 2,5-diacetoxy-2,5-dihydrofuran who cooked the at 10 mm (here and in the following mercury pressure) in an apparatus according to Bouveault, for example as in C. Weygand : Organic Preparations, Inter-science Publishers, New York 1945, p. 144, described, with a freeze trap for the condensation of the reaction products.
The tem perature of the quartz tube is kept at 480 to 500, and the diacetoxy-dihydrofuran is with. such a speed. evaporated, da.ss the temperature in the top of the cooling attachment is 65 to 70. The reaction is stopped after about 2 hours, after which 8 g of a black, pitch-like residue remains in the flask. The freezer trap contains 38 g of a partially crystalline product which melts to a pale yellow liquid at room temperature.
This liquid is distilled at 15 mm through a short cooling attachment and 29 g forerun, bp15 below 65, are collected. With further distillation without a cooling attachment, 5.10 g of unchanged diacetoxy-dihydrofuran are recovered.
The forerun of 29 g is dissolved in 50 emj ether and shaken once with 75 cms of water and then four times with 25 cms of 2N potassium carbonate solution each time until no more carbon dioxide is developed. Then the ethereal solution is dried over sodium sulphate, the ether is distilled off and the residue is distilled in vacuo .. The main fraction is distilled. at 45 to 50 and 9 mm and yields 12.0 g of 2-acetoxyfuran 35 O / a; nD = 1.4480.
If 2-acetoxyfuran is boiled with a solution of dinitrophenylhydrazine in aqueous hydrochloric acid, the dinitrophenylhydrazone of β-formylpropiotiic acid is formed, F = 197 to 203.
If 2-acetoxyfuran is added to a solution of dinitrophenylhydrazine in alcoholic sulphurous acid, the dinitrophenylhydrazone of the ß-formylpropionic acid ethyl ester is formed, F = 113 to 11-1.
