1. DAPON-M 100 Teile
Methyl-isobutyl-keton 114 Teile n-Butyl-acetat 6 Teile t-Butyl-perbenzoat 5 Teile 11. DAPON-R 100 Teile
Methyl-isobutyl-keton 185 Teile n-Butyl-acetat 10 Teile t-Butyl-perbenzoat 5 Teile
Methyl-isobutyl-keton 0/ , Vorpolymerisat Diallylphthalat Diallylisophthalat
50 550 950
45 225 350
35 40 75
Diallylphthalat 100 Teile
Methyl-äthyl-keton 10 Teile n-Butyl-acetat 6 Teile t-Butyl-perbenzoat 3 Teile

Process for the production of a porous, flexible insert or lining material for stiffening items of clothing
British Patent No. 850,791 describes a method according to which on a tissue which is in a gaseous medium, such as e.g. B. air, is arranged by spraying or dusting an essentially water-insoluble, polymeric material is applied so that the polymeric material adheres in the form of separate particles on the tissue.
If necessary, heat and / or pressure is used to allow the separate particles to adhere to the tissue.
According to this British patent specification No. 850 791, the heat and pressure used should not be so great that the separated particles merge into continuous surfaces or into larger pieces of surface.
Several methods of spraying the polymeric material onto the fabric have been described, e.g. B. the spraying of the material in the form of a solution or a dispersion, the solvent or dispersant is then removed afterwards.
A flexible fabric with separate particles of a water-insoluble, polymeric material on one of its surfaces is particularly useful as an intermediate material for coating with a second fabric, as it can be stretched in all directions and is very permeable to air and moisture.
One known such fabric, in order that it can be coated onto a second layer of fabric under heat and pressure, comprises thermoplastic polymers in the form of separate particles, e.g. B. polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride on. These polymers have the advantage that they soften into a sticky form when heated and under pressure, whereby the joining of two fabric layers can be carried out. A good bond is created on cooling as long as the layer is not reheated.
However, the thermoplastic polymers have the disadvantage that the compound is subject to disintegration and destruction when the multilayered fabric is heated several times, for example when it is washed or when the fabric is dry-cleaned.
These disadvantages can be remedied if particles of a prepolymer are applied to the textile base, which behaves like a thermoplastic before coating with a second substance, but which can be cured after coating and then with further heat treatments or with chemicals Dry cleaning is not attacked.
The invention relates to a process for producing a porous, flexible insert or lining material for stiffening items of clothing, which can be connected to another material by applying pressure and heat, with separate particles of a water-insoluble resin prepolymer on at least one surface of a textile fabric which The method is characterized in that a solution is sprayed onto the flat structure which, dissolved in a volatile ketone and / or a volatile ester, contains a monomeric allyl compound and / or an allyl resin prepolymer, and that the solvent is then removed and, if used, only one Monomers this is converted into a prepolymer by heating in order to form separate particles of the prepolymer adhering to the surface,
wherein the prepolymer has a softening point below 1800 C and is thermoplastic if it is heated to the softening temperature for a short time without a catalyst, while it can be cured by catalysis at temperatures below 180 C to a thermoset molding.
Diallyl phthalate and / or diallyl isophthalate can preferably be used as the allyl compound, if desired together with unsaturated polyesters.
From French Patent No. 1 3 12 488 it is known to apply a diallyl phthalate prepolymer to a carrier, e.g. B. from fiber material or paper to apply. According to this patent specification, however, the prepolymer is applied from a finely divided emulsion in such a way that it forms a cohesive layer. So hard, rigid, impermeable objects, such as. B. table tops produced.
In contrast, with the method according to the invention, separate particles of the prepolymer are produced on the surface of the textile fabric by spraying a solution in the specified solvents, so that the insert or lining material produced remains porous, flexible and dimensionally stable. To achieve this, the particles must have certain sizes that can be achieved using the specified solvents.
Embodiments of the method according to the invention and of the insert or lining material also according to the invention produced by this method are explained in more detail below.
As textile fabrics those with a fiber-like structure can be used, such as. B. woven and non-woven, knitted, braided or matted goods.
Diallyl phthalate and diallyl isophthalate are both separately or together and in monomeric or polymeric form hereinafter referred to as DAP.
The particles of the allyl resin prepolymer on the finished insert or lining material are preferably polymerized to form 25%. In the case of DAP, this is approximately the highest polymerization stage at which the prepolymer is still soluble in acetone.
The monomeric DAP (and, if desired, the prepolymer) can be sprayed on mixed with an unsaturated polyester, with which the bonding takes place easily.
It can also be mixed with a styrene-modified polyester resin.
If the allyl compound is applied as a prepolymer in an uncatalyzed manner, the fabric can be stored indefinitely and sold in that state for the purpose of coating on the surface of another fabric, with a curing catalyst then being applied. On the other hand, the prepolymer can be applied together with a curing catalyst. In this case, the treated substance can only be stored for a short time, but is ready for stratification without any further application of a catalyst.
A second sheet of material can be bonded to the finished insert or lining material by the action of the particles to form a layered material. Heat and pressure can be applied in the bonding process and a curing catalyst can be applied to either layer so that the final particles are then in a bonded, thermoset form.
If the DAP is not catalyzed, the prepolymer behaves like a thermoplastic if it is heated to temperatures below about 1500 C for a short time.
It softens sufficiently between 85 and 1150 C.
When it has hardened, the DAP is resistant to chemical substances, as well as to the heat that occurs during normal use, is not very flammable and forms a firm bond between the tissues. It is curable in a temperature range between 100-180C (preferably 11-5-160C) where there is little risk of scorching for most suitable fabrics, including cotton, silk and linen.
The allyl compound and / or the prepolymer is applied in a solution to the sheet-like structure, e.g. B. fabric, sprayed, for example as described in British Patent No. 850,791. For example, as described therein, a paint spray gun can be used. The fabric or other sprayed substances are preferably moved during the spraying. The droplets of the solution dry up and adhere to the fabric as separate particles.
The allyl compound is preferably applied as a prepolymer, it being possible for it to be mixed in a suitable manner with monomeric substance and a catalyst. For this purpose, the fabric is preferably sprayed with the allyl compound and then dried at room temperature. The dried particles are not sticky and adhere firmly to the fabric. The tissue can then be stored. It can be stratified onto another fabric using heat and pressure. For example, the second fabric is applied to the discontinuous, separate prepolymer particles and ironed on with an iron or with a mechanical press at 1500 C for 1 to 15 minutes or a shorter time at a slightly higher temperature if the fabric can withstand such a temperature without scorching.
Optionally, the fabrics or other materials can be pressed together between heated rollers arranged one behind the other in pairs, so that the fabrics are in continuous contact with a roller in order to maintain the curing temperature. This treatment bonds the layers together and hardens the resin.
Examples of suitable prepolymers are those in which about 25% of the polymerization has taken place. These are commercially available under the names DAPON-R (diallyl phthalate) and DAPON-M (diallyl isophthalate) (FMC Corporation, New York). DAPON-M and DAPON-R are almost transparent when they are fully hardened.
Below are two examples of suitable spray solutions:
1. DAPON-M 100 parts
Methyl isobutyl ketone 114 parts of n-butyl acetate 6 parts of t-butyl perbenzoate 5 parts 11. DAPON-R 100 parts
Methyl isobutyl ketone 185 parts of n-butyl acetate 10 parts of t-butyl perbenzoate 5 parts
The viscosity can be appropriately changed for spraying by changing the proportion of the solvent according to the following table: Viscosity (centipoise) in 5 n-butyl acetate and 95%,
Methyl isobutyl ketone 0 /, prepolymer diallyl phthalate, diallyl isophthalate
50 550 950
45 225 350
35 40 75
The methyl isobutyl ketone evaporates very quickly.
High temperatures should be avoided immediately after spraying if the formation of bubbles in the drying prepolymer particles is to be avoided. On the other hand, water can be added if the formation of bubbles is desired. The treated tissue can be stored for several months at normal storage temperatures (e.g. 230 C).
Examples of other solvents for DAP prepolymers are other ketones, e.g. B. acetone and methyl-ethyl-ketone. Ethyl acetate and butyl acetate and other esters are also suitable solvents. The lower aliphatic hydrocarbons are not good solvents and should therefore not be used.
Most of the known peroxide catalysts are suitable, but diallyl isophthalate can be hardened at a temperature of 2460 C within 15 minutes without the presence of a catalyst. Both isomeric prepolymers are curable at temperatures as low as 1000 C if heated for up to 16 hours.
The following table shows various catalysts and their corresponding, preferred operating temperature for curing the DAP.
Range of before the initiation of the pull-wise extracts From catalyst reaction at hardening temperature (oc) C) (oc) Benzoyl peroxide 75 100-115 t-butyl peroxide 95 120-135 di-tert-butyl peroxide 115 140-155 t-butyl hydroperoxide 115 140-155
The separate prepolymer particles can be left tacky prior to curing by the addition of small amounts, e.g. B. 10%, monomeric substances to the prepolymer.
According to another type of application, the prepolymer can be sprayed onto the fabric in the absence of a catalyst, for example if the fabric is to be stored for a longer period of time. Before gluing, the surface of the fabric, to which the prepolymerized particles adhere, can then be sprayed or treated in some other way (for example with a wet roller) with a catalyst solution.
Instead, the catalyst can be applied to the fabric to be layered that has not been treated with prepolymer. Again, the catalyst can be applied to a fabric before using it. DAP or another Allylhazvorpolymerisat is sprayed.
The catalyst, for example t-butyl peroxide, can be dispersed in a volatile solvent such as MEK, acetone or ethyl acetate serving as a carrier.
According to another optional method, the DAP or another allyl compound as a monomeric solution along with a catalyst can be sprayed onto the fabric surface and partially polymerized to storage conditions (e.g. about 25% polymerization) by the treated fabric during a suitable Time heated to a suitable, controlled temperature. The solution below can be heated to an oven temperature of 1500 C for 5 minutes, for example. The treated tissue, e.g. B. an intermediate layer, can then be stored or sold prior to layering.

Methyl ethyl ketone 10 parts of n-butyl acetate 6 parts of t-butyl perbenzoate 3 parts
Polyethylene powder 20 parts
The cured particles are not attacked by temperatures of up to 1500 C, since the diallyl phthalate particles are stable up to 1800 C. By adding (z. B. to the sprayed solution) of flame retardant substances, such as. B. monomeric diallyl chlorendate mixed with antimony oxide, they can be made fire resistant. The temperature resistance can also be increased by adding triallyl cyanurate.
DAPON-R and DAPON-M> are solid materials and are available in powder or grain form, with or without a catalyst. The allyl resin prepolymer, for example DAP, can be mixed with a solid filler, the thermoplastic materials such. B.
Polyethylene. The catalyst can be embedded in the particles or else applied separately to the treated layer or to a second layer to be adhered to the treated layer.
example
100 parts of DAPON-M were dissolved in 114 parts of methyl isobutyl ketone and 6 parts of n-butyl acetate.
The solution was sprayed onto a layer of non-woven tightening reinforcement material. The reinforcement layer was dried and then had particles of tDAPON-M adhered to its surface in an amount of about 70-200 g / m 2 of the reinforcement layer.
A layer of cotton fabric was coated by spraying a 5% solution of t-butyl perbenzoate in methyl isobutyl ketone and bonded to the reinforcing layer by placing the coated surface of the cotton fabric on the coated surface of the reinforcing layer, through a feed roller and the Passing the two strips on a conveyor belt between a pair of electrically driven rollers, of which the object had been heated to about 1500 C. At the same time, a pressure of about 1.4 kg / cm2 was exerted by the rollers. The laminate was passed over a series of separate rollers for 2 to 5 minutes in a curing oven heated to 1500 C.
It was found that the selected cotton fabric did not scorch below about 1700 C.
The allyl resin prepolymer particles can be applied together with an inhibitor. An example of such an inhibitor that can be used to advantage with DAP is 2,5-diphenyl-p-benzoquinone. The addition of an inhibitor slows the rate of the reaction at any particular temperature. The presence of an inhibitor has little effect on the later catalyzed curing of the resin. A slightly higher temperature or a slightly higher concentration of the catalyst may be necessary.
The solid particles can contain fillers or copolymers together with the allyl resin prepolymer. For example, DAP in prepolymer form can be mixed with an unsaturated polyester resin, a styrene-modified polyester resin, or with polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene or cellulose. Alternatively, the DAP in monomeric form can be mixed with an unsaturated polyester resin, possibly styrene-modified.
The DAP can be added to the other resin in the proportion of 10 to 75% by weight.
Suitable unsaturated polyester resins are condensates of maleic anhydride with polyalcohol, such as. B.
Glycerin.
The following names are examples of unsaturated polyester resins that can be applied to the textile fabric in such a way that, in the final, cured state, they are bonded to the allyl resin in a heat-resistant form, the latter preferably consisting of DAP: gCRYSTIC 202> (Scott-Bader Co. Ltd.) FIBRIN 160> (United States Rubber Co.) LAMINATE 4119 (American Cyanamid Co.) For example, Crystic 202s is a maleic anhydride glycerin resin mixed with phthalic anhydride and modified with dicyclobutadiene. It has a softening point of 1001050 C and hardens at 900 C in the presence of a peroxide catalyst.
Monomeric DAP and monomeric styrene (or low molecular weight polystyrene) can be blended with DAP prepolymer to obtain lower softening point particles, in a similar manner to the plasticizers used in thermoplastic resin compositions to keep the particles on temperature sensitive sheet material can stick. During the curing reaction, however, these plasticizers always combine with the allyl resin, so that the particles are heat-resistant in their final state.
The allyl resin prepolymer can, if desired, also mixed on the sheet material with particles of thermoplastics, such as. B. polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, are applied.
