Flexible pipe coupling for pipes subject to internal pressure. The present invention relates to a flexible pipe coupling for pipes subjected to internal pressure, which internal pressure seeks to separate the coupled pipe ends vonein other and which makes it necessary to provide means for transmitting tensile forces between the connected pipe ends. In certain cases, shear loads must also be transferred.
It is customary to produce such couplings by means of flexible bellows, which th hold back the fluid present in the pipe interior and can withstand its outward pressure; however, the bellows cannot withstand axial tensile forces or transverse shear stresses.
The flexible pipe coupling ring according to the invention, which has a bellows to create a fluid-tight connection between the pipe ends and articulated connection parts arranged outside the same and connected to the pipe ends, is characterized by damping elements for damping which are arranged in the articulated connection parts and pressed against the bellows by spring means of bellows vibrations.
The pipe ends can be connected to one another in an articulated manner by means of the joint connecting parts only about one axis or about two mutually perpendicular axes.
The damping elements prevent dangerous resonance vibrations of the bellows, which can lead to fatigue fractures, by damping friction or by changing the vibrating system.
An embodiment of the subject invention is shown in the accompanying drawing voltage; which shows a pipe coupling in axial section and partly in section in the distance X from the pipe axis, analogous to A-A, but shifted by 90 against A-A.
In the drawing, 10 is a tubular element which is connected to a tubular element 11 by means of a flexible hitch, so that the parts 10, 11 are angularly movable relative to one another be, in two mutually perpendicular planes. The tubular element 10 has a flange 12 and the tubular element 11 has a similar flange 13. The flanges 12, 13 are attached to rings 14 and 15, which are provided with tabs 16, 17 standing in the axial direction. The tabs 16 protrude from the ring 14 against the tube 1.1 and the tabs 17 protrude from the ring 15 against the tube 10.
A cardan ring 18 is connected to the tabs 16 by means of two coaxial pivot pins 19 and to the tabs 17 by means of two identical coaxial pivot pins 20 (only one shown). The axes of the pins 19 intersect the axes of the pins 20 at right angles on the axis of the tubular element 10.
A flexible bellows 21 arranged within the cardan ring 18 is attached to the rings 14, 15 and makes the coupling fluid-tight. The gimbal device 14-20 transfers all loads, both tensile and shear loads from the Rohrele element 10 to the tubular element 11 and vice versa and relieves the bellows 21 from all these loads.
The pivot pins 19 are hollow and th contain a sliding piston 32 with a head 33 which rests on the outer edges of the corrugated outer surface of the bellows 21 and is loaded by a spring 34 arranged in the hollow pivot pin 19. The spring-loaded pistons 32 are intended to mainly suppress resonance vibrations of the bellows through their damping caused by friction or by changing the natural frequency of the vibrating system.
The pivot pins 20 can also be hollow and contain spring-loaded pistons, the heads of which rest on the outer edges of the corrugated outer surface of the bellows 21. But this is usually not necessary, since it is usually sufficient to prevent the bellows movements at two diametrically opposed points.
