Process and system for burning solid fuels, in particular coarse coke. There are known combustion systems with automatic, more likely charging, which are designed in such a way that the fuel, for example the carbon foot or the coke, is automatically either mechanically is introduced into the combustion chamber by means of a rotating screw or by means of a reciprocating plunger, or under the action of gravity.
As long as the dimensions of the fuel used are not too large, i.e. if nut IV or V or crushed coke form the heating material, these systems work to satisfaction. If, however, a coarser fuel is used, difficulties arise due to wear and clogging of parts of the feed device and to bridging in the fuel bunker.
Particularly when using coke, such difficulties arise due to the great hardness and the irregular, angular shape of this material.
Another disadvantage, which becomes noticeable when using this coarse fuel, arises from the fact that the fire tends to go out more easily when the burning is weak than when using a fuel with smaller dimensions. The reason for this is that an increase in the volume of the fuel pieces causes a reduction in the ratio of surface area to volume.
Only the surface of the fuel is involved in the burning process, and because the heat developed per surface unit for a certain fuel remains the same, the heat that develops when using a coarser fuel is lower than the heat that is generated due to the relatively smaller surface area when using a fuel of smaller lump size results. If less heat develops than is delivered, the fire goes out, which, as can be seen above, is more likely to be the case when using coarser fuel than when using less coarse fuel.
This is not as easily noticeable when using lean coal as when using coke. Lean coal contains about 10% volatile constituents which, because they react easily, maintain combustion even at low temperatures. In addition, due to the presence of these substances, the fire will immediately re-ignite with increased air supply.
In the coke, on the other hand, because of their expulsion during dry distillation, volatile constituents are not present, or only in very small quantities, and consequently the combustion can continue in the case of a weakly burning fire and a smoldering fire can also be fanned when using coarse coke hardly realize. In addition, even if the fire does not go out, one has to reckon with considerable losses of fuel in the slag. Because the combustion only takes place on the surface of the fuel, a slag forms there, which envelops the inside of the fuel.
If no special measures are taken to cause the slag to melt or become porous, the interior of the fuel no longer takes part in the combustion and is removed together with the slag.
According to the present invention, a method and a system is created which, when appropriately designed, allow coke to be burnt in a size of 20 to even 120 mm with high efficiency so that there is no risk of the fire going out even at low loads is.
The method according to the invention is carried out by means of a vertical combustion chamber designed at the top for loading fuel and at the bottom for removing ash and slag, with part of the primary air used for combustion being fed to the fuel through openings in a side wall of the combustion chamber and this air.
then flows through the fuel in an at least approximately horizontally ver running direction, while another part of the primary air in an oblique direction passes through the combustion residue resting on the bottom of the combustion chamber and through the fuel located on this, with the formed in the combustion chamber Gases are discharged through openings in the side wall of the combustion chamber located opposite the said wall and the path that the combustion gases passing through the fuel must cover has a length which is sufficient to achieve an at least approximately complete reduction of these gases,
to which secondary air is then fed in for complete combustion. Advantageously, to influence the combustion, the ratio of the two primary air supply quantities, namely the primary air supplied through a side wall and the primary air supplied at the bottom, is changed so that the point at which the combustion zone of the fuel column should be located , and consequently the path that the combustion gases must travel can be determined in the desired manner.
To influence the combustion, the ratio of primary air to secondary shift is also advantageously changed in order to achieve a combustion process in which the gases that are discharged through the chimney do not contain any combustible components.
The method and the system according to the invention are explained, for example, with the aid of the attached drawing. The drawing shows: Fig.1 a longitudinal section. a firing system belonging to a central heating boiler, while FIG. 2 shows the firing system partly in a top view, partly showing a cross section.
The fuel falls under the influence of gravity from the fuel bunker 1 into the vertical combustion chamber 2. The peripheral delimitation of the combustion chamber is formed by the side walls 3 and 4 and two walls 5 and 6 provided with openings, which in the exemplary embodiment each consist of a series of vertical. standing water-cooled pipes exist, the lower end of which open into the collecting tank. The bottom of the combustion chamber is formed by the grate 7, which is inclined slightly downwards in the direction towards the wall 5, but could also run horizontally. The wall 5 is. shorter than the wall 6, and the lower edge of the wall 5 is at a higher point than the lower edge of the wall 6.
A slag ram 8 is provided in order to push the visual varnish that has accumulated on the grate 7 through the open space located below the collecting pipe 9 onto the front part 10 of the grate. A ver closable opening by means of a door 11 allows the removal of the extinguished and subsequently cooled slag located on the grate part 10 and the ash located in the ash chamber 12 below the grate.
A fan connected to the opening 13 blows combustion air into an air distribution box 1-l. This box borders. on the shorter wall so that air can flow between the tubes and then in the horizontal direction through the fuel column located in the chamber 2. In the bottom 15 of the distribution box there is an opening 16. Part of the air flowing into the distribution box flows through this opening on the one hand from the side towards the grate, on the other hand to the ash chamber 12, and then in an oblique direction through the on the grate , residual combustion residue and to flow through the fuel lying on it.
The ratio of the two primary air quantities can be regulated by changing the size of the opening 16 by means of a slide 17 and, if necessary, with an adjustable passage element 18 placed in the distribution box in front of the short wall. This organ consists, for example, of two perforated metal plates resting against one another, with which the size of the. effective opening can change without the uniformity of the air flow through the wall is jeopardized.
If only primary air was introduced in a horizontal direction, the combustion zone would build up along the wall 5. The temperature in the combustion chamber and thus also that of the slag is lower in the direction of the wall 6. As a result, parts of the fuel are enveloped by the slag close to the MTand 6 and are thus lost, while at the same time a solid that is difficult to remove. caked slag is produced. The inclined flow of additional air leads to a second combustion zone, which runs in an approximately horizontal direction u. d. which rests on the slag bed S.
In the present embodiment of the combustion system according to the invention, the combustion zone corresponds approximately to the space designated by V in FIG. In this description, the term combustion zone should be understood to mean the zone in which the fuel is completely burned to form CO2.
The CO 2 formed in the combustion zone sweeps through the glowing fuel located between the combustion zone and the wall 6. In this zone, indicated by R in the drawing, the reduction of at least approximately all of the carbon dioxide to CO takes place. The CO then flows through the openings in the wall 6 to the room 19, in which it, mixed with the secondary air, burns to form CO 2.
As the combustion progresses, the fuel gradually slides down from the bunker 1 until it enters the combustion chamber 2 for the time being. There it is dried and any volatile components that may be present in it escape as a result of the heat developing in the combustion zone. The glowing fuel goes. first through the reduction zone, in which it reacts with the existing C02, releasing C. Not only does the fuel shrink, but cracks also form, which leads to an increase in the surface area involved in the reaction.
The fuel then passes through the combustion zone, in which it burns completely to form CO2 and in which the slag is formed. Because the air introduced from below flows through the glowing slag, caking is prevented. The porous slag that forms can be removed by tapping at regular intervals, using a slag pestle. By keeping that part of the bottom facing the long wall 6 closed, which, as shown in the drawing, is achieved in that the completely retracted slag pestle still covers part of the grate 7, one bends a short circuit of the air entering the grate and the air in space 19 and achieved.
at the same time an extension of the flow path of the air through the fuel.
The space 19, in which the combustion of the gases takes place, can be designed as a heat exchanger or, as indicated in the drawing, as a pre-firing system for a boiler. In the latter case, the burning gases flow through the channel 20 to the boiler.
The supply of secondary air to the room 19 takes place through the pipe 21. This pipe is connected to the distribution box 14 for the combustion air and is provided with a large number of small diameter holes through which the air can escape into the room 19. , The ratio of the primary to the secondary air is regulated by means of a control valve \? 2 in such a way that the flue gases that are the last to leave the chimney no longer contain any combustible gases.
The combustion system described can be used appropriately for heating hot water and steam boilers intended for central heating and other purposes. If the walls of the furnace are provided with water jackets, an efficiency of 90% can be achieved.
In a heating test in which coke from 40 to 60 mm formed the heating material, a grate surface load of 106 kcal / m2 per hour was achieved. The gases that got into the chimney did not contain any C0, while their content of C0, 18 1 / o and 0.
o / o was. At the end of the experiment, the supply of fuel and fan air was switched off. In the combustion system]) the fire then ran sluggishly for a long time due to the natural draft, until the fuel in the combustion chamber was finally completely burned up.
The main advantage of the combustion system described is that it allows very coarse coke to be burned without difficulties. Furthermore, very high loads can be achieved, while the state of the quiescent fire is maintained for a very long time and thus the same. does not go out prematurely.
