Asphaltpro dukte und ähnliche bisher verwendete thernio- plastisehe Isoliermaterialien besitzen diese Eigenschaft nicht. Ferner besteht bei diese lIarzen, im Gegensatz zu Asphaltprodukten, ;

Process for the manufacture of an insulated coil and the coil obtained by this process. In the construction of electrical apparatus, in particular high-voltage generators and the like, difficulties arise in that at voltages above 1000 volts, a sharp increase in the dissipation factor occurs as the value of the applied voltage increases.
So shows. For example, a coil that has a loss factor of about 2 / o when tested with 2 kV at 25 C, and a loss factor of 12% with a test voltage of 16 kV. This sharp increase in the dissipation factor, which is undesirable in itself, shows that the insulation has deficiencies, e.g.
B. undoubtedly must have many air pockets and other ileal spaces. Liorona discharge and premature breakdown with the resulting failure of the insulation can therefore occur much sooner than if a fault-free insulation is present. above this, the loss factor usually increases very rapidly with increasing temperatures. Loss factor values of up to 25 oio at 125 C are not uncommon with certain isolations currently in use.
Some of the difficulties that have been encountered so far can be traced back to the insulating materials that have been used so far. It is common practice today in the electrical industry, so to speak, to use mica as an insulating material on high-voltage coils with asphalt of high melting point. Asphalt is satisfactory in use at low temperatures, but has the disadvantage that it is thermoplastic and therefore sweats or bleeds from the end turns of the coil when the conductors are subjected to temperatures slightly above 100 ° C.
Asphalt binders for mica also have the further disadvantage of inhibiting the polymerization of impregnating resins, so that some impregnating resins do not polymerize or do not harden properly. Asphalts also have high dielectric losses at high temperatures.
The present invention relates to. Now a process for the production of an insulated coil which has several conductor turns isolated from one another and an earth insulation applied over the united th turns, which is characterized in that (1) the united conductor windings are wound with a sheet-shaped insulation that consists of one - sheet-shaped base, mica leaves applied to it and a viscous binder that unites the mica flakes and the sheet-shaped base into a uniform structure with a viscosity of 75 to 5000 Posse at 25 ' C consists, (2)
the wrapped coil is exposed to a temperature not exceeding 175 C and a vacuum to expel moisture and other volatile components, (3) the coil treated in a vacuum cools to a temperature below 50 C, (4) the coil impregnated in a vacuum with a liquid, fully curable solution, which is composed of 50 to 90 percent by weight of at least one polymerizable, liquid, monomeric compound which has the polymerizable group CH2 = CG,

Polystyrene with an average molecular weight of 3000 is quite hard and inflexible, so that a tape made from such a polystyrene without the addition of a cattle cutter cannot be wound on spools in a satisfactory manner.
In addition, a high molecular weight polystyrene delays the penetration of subsequently applied impregnation layers. Polyst; crol with a 1-molecular-weight lower than 400, i-iclit is insufficiently viscous and ILlebral and easily withdraws from your binding.
For the application of low-density polystyrene, it was useful to have a solution in one. flee.

Use a solution consisting of 15 percent by weight of polystyrene with an average molecular weight of 500 and 85 percent by weight of toluene.

Tolilol or xylene or mixtures thereof are used, the solutions advantageously containing 70 to 90% of solvent. The solutions obtained can be applied to the mica sheets and the sheet-like base by dripping, painting on or in some other way, whereupon the solvent is driven off.
Since such plasticized polystyrenes are extremely viscous and sticky, a sheet of fabric, paper or regenerated cellulose can be applied to the mica tapes produced in this way in order to be able to roll them up. The ribbons can be made in any desired width. The mica insulating material produced in this way remains permanently flexible and is not subject to any noticeable aging, hardening or other deterioration during storage for a considerably long time.
Fig. 1 of the drawings shows a high voltage coil which has several turns of a conductor 12, which consists of a tape provided with an insulating coil 14 copper. The insulation 14 can consist of glass fiber tape or mica tape impregnated with suitable resins. It has been shown that with. Glass fiber tape unwound copper conductors are particularly well suited for the purposes of the present invention.
The wound insulation is usually not subjected to very high voltages. The voltage between the turns is usually well below 50 volts. The combined turns 12 are wrapped with a mica tape 7.6 of the type described above, which acts as insulation against the earth. The tape has a sheet-like base 18 and mica flakes 20 bound with a polystyrene mass of the above-mentioned composition.
The mica tape is wound up in such a way that the edge of one turn abuts the edge of the preceding turn of the tape. The tape 16 can, however, also be applied in such a way that the windings overlap in half, or wound up in any other desired manner. With coils for very high voltages, up to 16 layers of the tape can be placed on top of each other. Since the mica tape 16 forms the insulation of the conductor 12 from earth, it must be able to withstand high voltages.
After the glining tape 16 has been wound up, the high-voltage coil is subjected to drying under the action of heat and vacuum in order to expel all moisture and other liquid components from the coil. This treatment can be carried out in the in Fig. the device shown,
which has a closed chamber '' '3 with a vaktttundieliten 1) eekel 2-l, which is connected by a line '26 with a #' aktitinipnnipe. In the chamber? are lleizeleniente? 8 arranged at.

Temperatures within 7_00 C 'can, however, be used. be, where. however, a vacuum and a longer treatment are required in order to achieve good results. The vacuum generated by the line 26 in the chamber 22 can, for. B. 0.1 to 1.0 min 14g.
Under these conditions, good results are achieved in less than half an hour. You can also have a longer treatment, for example one lasting 2 to 4 hours. Because of the dryness ini. Vacuum moisture in the coil escapes,
Solvent and its low molecular weight fractions of polystyrene are present in small quantities in the olystyrene binder.
It has been shown that the impregnation of impregnation with emulsion tape; peeling with the usual insulating varnishes, which contain a considerable amount of a volatile organic solvent, does not produce satisfactory results, since (liquid solvents were sold,
are inuss and. this varnish, even with the application of good care and repetition of the impregnation, sees the interstices of the coil from the outer layer of the isolator to the innermost turns. fill out completely. 1:
s almost always remain to order cavities. Asphalt products have been used with a high level of selective focus. and achieved somewhat better results than finite varnishes containing volatile solvents.
These products must, however, so that they do not flow out during the operation of the pulen. high Sellinelzpunlite have that their viscosity is so high at the temperatures used in practice to inipregulate coils that the penetration of the insulation occurs only very slowly and is often incomplete.
Cberdies is asphalt due to a sharp increase in the loss factor with rising temperatures # .: elienizeiehnet.
To take account of these difficulties, the coils are impregnated in a vacuum with an ester solution of the type already mentioned.
As the polymerizable group ("H @ -C <, polymerizable, liquid, monomeric compounds, which serve as solvents for the Bster, are two-kinetic vinyl compounds of the formula

is used, in which R1 is hydrogen or 1 is ethyl and R., and R "is hydrogen, metal or halogen.
Examples of such compounds are monostyrene, a-lletliyl.-styrene, o-, in- or p-1-ethy1-styrene, a-methyl 1-p-nietliyl-styrene,?, 4 = diinethylstyi @ ol , p-chlorostyrene, p-Fliiol - st.vrol and '?, 4-Dielilor-Stvl-ol.
For the production of the unsaturated esters, the unsaturated acidic components used are preferably Ä @ Ialeinsäui'e, llalein- säureanlivdrid, funiaric acid, citraconic acid, ("itraeonsäureanhvdrrid or a (xeiniseh these substances), namely in an amount of <B. > 10 to 50 mol percent, based on the acidic components.
(Suitable saturated diacid acids are adipic acid, sebaic acid, azelaic acid, suberic acid, succinic acid, deeamethylenediearboxylic acid, diglvcolic acid. Mixtures of these acids can also be used.
If products with comparable degrees of hardness are to be obtained, then, when using saturated dicarboxylic acids with a longer chain, such as e.g. B. sebacic acid, the amount of maleic anhydride can be greater than when z. B. succinic acid is used as the saturated acid.
As glycols that are suitable for reaction with the mixture of saturated and unsaturated acids, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, diethylene glycol, 1., 5-pentanediol and triethylene glycol are to be mentioned. Mixtures of glycols can also be used.
The reaction between the acidic compounds and the glycols can be carried out by heating the constituent parts in a reaction vessel at temperatures of 100 to 250 C for 24 to 2 hours until an acid number below 60 is achieved.
The unsaturated esters can e.g. B. be prepared as follows: 1. A mixture of 40 mol percent adipic acid and .10 mol percent maleic anhydride was mixed with 50 mol percent propylene glycol and reacted in a closed reaction vessel flushed with CO 2 for about 4 hours at 140 C, whereupon the temperature was increased to 220 ° C. in the course of 4 hours and the reaction was allowed to continue at 220 ° C. for 8 hours. A syrupy resin was obtained.
A similar product was made using 7 mole percent maleic anhydride and 43 mole percent adipic acid.
In general, good results are achieved with .5 to 10 mole percent maleic anhydride, 45 to 50 mole percent adipic acid and 50 mole percent propylene glycol.
2. 30 mol percent sebacic acid, 20 mol percent maleic anhydride and 50 mol percent diethylene glycol were reacted with one another in the same way as in 1., a syrupy resin having a low acid number was obtained. Particularly good results have been achieved with.
Solutions of the unsaturated esters in monostyrene with a content of 65 to 85 percent by weight monostyrene. These solutions are reactive products which, when heated, especially in the presence of vinyl polymerization catalysts, such as. B. Benzoylperolyd, Asearidol or; tert. Butyl perbenzoate and similar peroxide catalysts, in an amount of. 0.1 to 2 percent by weight, polymerize completely.
It is of course also possible to use amounts of the catalyst which lie outside this amount range.
After drying the coils wrapped with mica tape. they are impregnated with the ester solution. The best results are achieved when the coils are impregnated in the same container in which they were subjected to vacuum drying. However, the coils can also be impregnated in a special container. The coils are cooled to a temperature below 50 C before they are impregnated.
In Fig. 3 a device suitable for the impregnation is shown. This one direction has a container 30 and an airtight sealable lid 32 which is provided with a line 34 for sucking off the air or for introducing gases under pressure. A line 36 for supplying and draining the varnish is connected to the bottom of the container 30. The coil 10 coming from the chamber 22 is introduced into the container 30 and subjected to the action of a vacuum generated by means of the line 34 in order to expel the air and other gases from the coil.
Ester solution is then introduced through line 36 while maintaining the vacuum in the container, the coil 10 being allowed to be completely submerged. Then air or another gas can be introduced through line 34 under pressure to facilitate the penetration of the liquid material 38 into the cracks of the coils and to ensure that these cracks are completely filled. However, this measure is not absolutely necessary if the ester solution has a sufficiently low viscosity. Impregnation does not take much time.
When applying pressure, 10 minutes is usually sufficient to make small coils. to be completely impregnated and saturated. With a longer lasting impregnation, however, a complete saturation of the coils is achieved with greater certainty. The ester solution not absorbed by the coil is then drained through line 36, whereupon the coil 10 can be removed from the impregnation container.
Before curing, the coil is given the ge desired Foxen, the various layers of insulation pressed against each other and the coil are given the desired off mass, so that the finished coil 10 z. B. fits exactly into the groove of a machine. For this purpose, the coil 10 is wrapped with a relatively moderately impermeable tape 42 immediately after the impregnation, as shown in FIG.
Particularly good results are achieved with tapes made of plastic or resin-like materials that are not attacked by the impregnation fluid. You can choose from cellulose acetate, polyvinylidene chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene, synthetic rubber, such as. B. chloroprene rubber, or polyethylene-made tapes use the. Good results have been achieved by means of a 0.125 mm thick and about 25 mm wide tape when this has been applied with turns half-overlapping with one another. The applied tape serves various purposes.
It prevents the escape of monostyrene during the subsequent treatment, enables the insulation to be fastened, especially at the end turns, and makes it easier to remove the coil from the mold during the subsequent treatment.
After the coil has been wrapped with the tape 42, it is placed in a heated mold in which the insulation and the winding are pressed together and the hardening is carried out. One can use forms of different types. In Fig. 5 a cross section through one side of the coil 10 angeord designated in a compression molding press 50 is shown. The press 50 has a rigid base 52 which is provided with openings 54 for steam heating elements, electrical heating elements or the like. By a menarbeitende with the base 52 and operated by a ram 58 be die 56, the coil is pressed together to the ge desired dimensions.
During compression, the coil 10 is heated to a temperature sufficient to bring about hardening. Suitable curing temperatures are those of 70 to 150 C. Treatment for one hour at 80 to 100 C and subsequent treatment at a temperature of 125 C for 1/2 to 5 hours generally results in complete curing.
After hardening, the coil can be detached from the die and cooled to a temperature at which it can be conveniently handled. The tape 42 is then withdrawn from the spool. The coil is then ready for use in high voltage generators and similar electrical equipment. The coil is homogeneous, compact and relatively free of cavities and air pockets. It has no excess resin.
In order to demonstrate the favorable properties of the coils produced according to the invention, several coils were produced for comparison purposes, one of them according to the most perfect method of the previous practice using a mica insulation containing asphalt as a binder, which was impregnated with asphalt after winding, and which were produced by the method according to the invention.
For the latter bobbins, a solution of 15 parts by weight of the adipic acid - maleic anhydride - propylene glycol reaction product described under 1. in 85 parts by weight of monostyrene with the addition of 0.5 percent by weight of benzoyl peroxide was used. The coils wrapped with the mica tape containing low molecular weight polystyrene as a binder were impregnated with this resin and subjected to curing according to the procedure described above.
The amount of mica and other insulation materials was practically identical for both types of full game, as was the thickness of the insulation.
The two types of full coils were then subjected to comparative tests at different voltages and fluctuating temperatures, in order to determine the loss factor ¯zli.
The dissipation factor temperature curves which are shown here are shown in FIG. 6; they show that class for a test bulkhead full '_' 1.:V (curve _l.) as well as such a full 16 kV (curve P) with increasing temperature for the asphalt as a binder. contain the coils the loss factor increases sharply.
The coils produced according to the invention, on the other hand, had test voltages of fully 3 kV (curve (\) and 1.6 kV (curve D) in the same ten-temperature range in proportion to the same degree of dissipation factor.
In addition, the loss factor of the coils manufactured according to the invention changes only slightly when the voltage of '? kV is increased to 1.6 kV, indicating a high level of consolidation. degree of isolation allows the closing rope.
Durell failure tests carried out on all of these coils showed values of 11.8 kV per one for the asphalt,
coils containing binding agent and 193 kV per em for the empty coils according to the invention. These figures show the clear superiority of the coil insulation obtained according to the invention over conventional coil insulation parts.
Another advantage of the resins formed from the Aster solutions of the type mentioned is that they are elastic or rubber-like at temperatures above 100 C. 11. That a counter force is triggered in them, which has the endeavor to reduce the displacement of the insulation caused by thermal expansion of the components of the coil with respect to the copper conductor or the apparatus in which the coils are arranged.
Asphalt products and similar previously used thermoplastic insulating materials do not have this property. Furthermore, in contrast to asphalt products, these resins have;
There is no risk of them sweating out of the coils under the operating conditions. To demonstrate this fact, old-fashioned coils were heated to 150 "('and then cooled to 1..5 C
being able to see each cycle over time. This Weehsel lasted a full 96 minutes. from. Heating and cooling was carried out a thousand times. The coils impregnated with phalt showed a displacement of the insulation in the center of the slot by about 13 mm,
while with the coils produced according to the invention, no measurable displacement could be determined.
I: in -tveitei # ei: # The advantage is that [.,) A single original "t1iel., 1111g # Yeilütgt, uni to completely impregnate even the largest coils currently produced in industry.
It is important to ensure that the ester solutions can have a viscosity which is only one. small part of the viscosity of asphalts, even of asphalts heated to around 1_75 C-
and fully lent insulation materials used in accordance with previous practice. The viscosity of the initial solution, which was used to adjust the sample coils, the test results of which are shown in Fig. 6, is 0,

Even at 175 ° C., the viscosity fully reaches 50 or more poises, which is many times the viscosity of the impregnating solutions to be used according to the invention. represents.
The polystyrene binder used for the Glimnierband is compatible with the ester solutions and dissolves. look in the latter and place. There is no resistance to the passage of the solutions through the Glinner tape during the impregnation. Gewöhnliebe Glinlnlerbindmittel such.
B. Seliellael. The impregnation material has a retarding effect on the penetration of the impregnating materials, which in certain cases can be such that the impregnating agent itself does not contain more than 4 or 5 layers of mica tape after several hours of impregnation under pressure has penetrated.
Numerous experiments have shown that the reels produced according to the invention have been completely and thoroughly penetrated by the ester solution, even if 8 or more layers of the mica tape bound with the polystyrene binder described are present.
In the present description, the manufacture of high voltage coils for generators was explained in particular. According to the method according to the invention, however, coils for motors of rail vehicles, field coils, magnetic coils and similar devices can also be produced, and better results can also be achieved than with conventional methods.
