Description

Process for removing organic coatings from surfaces. Metallic vessels, such as tanks, etc., require clothing for many uses if they cannot be made from a corrosion-resistant metal alloy. For the lining, rubber, bituminous compounds such as the branded products Mammut, Gasehell and other substances come into consideration. Experience has shown that these linings have to be renewed from time to time.

The removal of the old lining makes important selections, especially when it comes to uni linings with substances on a bituminous basis. However, the complete removal of the lining compound from the surface is a basic requirement for the subsequent new lining.

Is particularly difficult. the removal, if the lining unbsniassen are soft, since the usual treatment of the iron surface by sandblasting is unsuccessful because the blasting sand gets caught in the soft lining.

Attempts have already been made to make the lining viscous by heating the surfaces of the vessels or tanks, but this measure usually achieves the opposite, as the soft, greasy pocket sticks in the pores of the iron and does not ultimately more is to be eliminated entirely. The method according to the present invention is characterized in that the surfaces provided with a coating to be removed are cooled together with the coating and then the coating is removed.

In fact, it was surprisingly found that complete removal, in particular also of soft bituminous linings, is possible when the vessels or tanks and the coating are cooled down considerably, since such a cooling </ B> the masses are four-brittle and, as a result of the different expansion coefficients of the surface and coating, can be removed without residue by sandblasting or by ordinary hammers.

The cooling can be done in various ways, e.g. B. by using carbon dioxide ice, blowing cold air or the like.
