Method and device for the production of steel shot. The present invention relates to a method for the production of steel shot, where successive jets of cooling liquid are conducted when the starting metal is melted onto a jet.
In the method according to the present invention, the cooling liquid is thrown from a centrifugal wheel intermittently and in a divided state against the jet of molten metal.
To carry out the method, a device is provided which has a centrifugal wheel whose plane of symmetry, which is perpendicular to the axis of rotation, intersects the beam of liquid metal.
The accompanying drawings illustrate an exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention. 1 shows a schematic representation of the device, partly in section through the plane of symmetry II of the centrifugal wheel in FIG. 2, FIG. 2 shows a section through the line II-II in FIG. 1, FIG. 3 shows a view from below of the Measuring container and the protective device attached below it,
FIG. 4 shows a view of a blade of the centrifugal wheel and FIG. 5 shows the mode of operation of the cooling liquid jet which strikes the liquid metal jet. Fig. 1 shows schematically the tapping channel 18 of an only indicated electric, tiltable melting furnace 10, which is suitable for melting the types of steel used in this process and which stands on a foundation 17 ..
The trough 11, which is made of metal and can be lined with refractory material, is adjustable in terms of height with the aid of a device 21 provided schematically. On a frame 25 there is a measuring vessel 12 with an insert piece 26 having the outlet channel 26 '; the two parts 12, 26 can be made of Me tall, and they can be lined with refractory material. The cross section of the channel 26 'can, depending on the desired cross section of the liquid metal jet 23, be rectangular or square.
FIGS. 1, 2 and 4 show details of the centrifugal wheel 13: The drive shaft 32, the hub 35, which is firmly connected to the centrifugal wheel disk 33, runs in the bearing 30. It can be driven by any power source via a transmission. Between the two centrifugal disks 33 and 34 sit in radial grooves 38 out eehselbaren blades 39 which are held by screws 40 ge. The radial blades can be curved concavely on the front side (FIG. 4).
The two Sehleuderradiben 33 and 34 are held by spacer sleeves 36 and screws 37 at a fixed distance from the plane of symmetry I-I. In a central bore of the centrifugal wheel 33, an annular body 41 is mounted, in the jacket 42 of which there is an opening 43, the cross section of which is selected so that a cooling medium jet of uniform density is created on the centrifugal wheel blades 39, i.e. the water weight is based on the volume weight of the centrifugal jet, at approximately constant. The outer diameter of the ring body jacket 42 is built into the opening of the inner edges of the blades 39 with very little play.
The hollow hub 44 of the annular body 41 is rotatable in the bearing 31, and on the hollow hub 44 sits a Ge gear wheel 45_, which is in a handle with a pinion 46. The latter sits on a control shaft 47 with a handwheel 48. A detent 49, which engages the teeth of the pinion 46 by a compression spring 61, is used to hold a position of the pinion 46 once set. A connector 50, into which the line 51 from the pump 14 opens, is attached to the bearing 31. The transition from the connection piece 50 to the hollow hub 44 is sealed by suitable means, not shown.
A protective hood 54 encloses part of the circumference of the centrifugal wheel 13 for collecting that cooling liquid which should be thrown away from the centrifugal wheel 13 approximately outside the directed jet 15. A U-shaped Schutzvor device 57 surrounds the metal beam 23 in part. It protrudes between the exit point of the cooling liquid from the wheel and the point of impact of the cooling liquid jet on the liquid metal jet and protects the latter from the effects of the ventilation flows caused by the centrifugal wheel 13.
The mode of operation of the device according to FIGS. 1 to 5 is as follows. A jet of liquid metal 20 flows from the drainage channel 18 of the melting furnace 10 through the channel 11 into the measuring vessel 1.2. The channel 11 can be adapted to the respective position of the tapping channel 18 and the measuring vessel 12 by means of the device 21.
The measuring vessel 12 not only serves to generate a uniform drop height and speed in the liquid metal jet 23, the cross-section of which is determined by the shape of the cross-section of the channel 26, but it should also help to create a clean and slag-free metal pebble to obtain.
The liquid metal beam 23, which is rectangular in cross section, has a uniform thickness X (FIG. 5) and the width Y is approximately the same or, better still, somewhat smaller than the width of the Cooling liquid jet 15 which strikes the broad side of the liquid metal jet 23.
The cooling liquid jets 15 'advantageously strike the same in an approximately tangential direction to the liquid metal jet 23. The coolant jets should therefore impinge on the liquid metal jet at as acute an angle as possible. They are directed downwards at an angle.
The pump 14 sucks coolant from a container not provided, for example MTasser, and conveys the same through the line 51 into the connection piece 50 and through the hollow hub 44 in the ring body 41 with the opening 43 in the dumbbell 42. By the control device that in the illustrated example consists of parts 45, 46, 47 and 48, the opening 43 in the Man tel 42 of the annular body 41 can be rotated into the desired position, which determines the position and direction of the cooling liquid jet 15 be. By notch 49, the position is set on the pinion 46 is held.
The plane of symmetry 1-I, which is perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the centrifugal wheel, intersects. the metal beam.
The jet of cooling liquid emerging from the opening 43 of the annular body 41 is captured by the inner edges of the blades 39 de, # rotating in the direction of the arrow and accelerated on the way to the outer edges of the blades 39, so that the position of the Opening 43 in the ring body 41 predetermined point on the circumference of the centrifugal wheel 13 successive jets of coolant,
consist of divided. -Mounts of finely divided coolant leak out. This is shown schematically in Figs. 1 and 5, with the narrowings divided from being denoted by 60. The side 38 of the blades 30, which is concavely curved towards the liquid, causes the jet to be concentrated in the longitudinal direction so that the cooling liquid jet 15 has a uniform density over the entire width Y.
The liquid metal jet 23 flowing down from the channel 26 'of the measuring vessel 72 at the point 26 "is charged and broken up by the coolant quantities 60 thrown away by the centrifugal wheel 1.3 in bursts, which form the successive cooling liquid jets, whereby the liquid metal is quenched and steel gravel 22 is produced.
Individual properties of the steel shot 22 produced can be influenced by a suitable combination of the following factors: speed of the Schleu derrades 13; Number and shape of blades 3S1; Shape, dimensions and position of the opening 43 in the annular body 41; Shape and dimensions of the liquid metal jet 23; Disregard properties of the coolant.
The density and speed, but especially the latter of the cooling liquid jet 15, determine the order of magnitude of the steel shot 22 produced.
In general, a larger proportion of coarse-grained gravel is generated when the speed of the control wheel is reduced, that is to say, the speed of the cooling liquid jet 15 is reduced, while a higher proportion of fine-grained gravel is produced when the speed of the control wheel is increased.
The density of the pulsating l #, coolant jet 15 can be changed in the following way (cr) by changing the amount of cooling liquid supplied to the centrifugal wheel 13 by the pump 14, h) by changing the centrifugal wheel width, c ) by changing the distance z <v- see liquid metal jet 23 and centrifugal wheel 13, d)
by changing the arc length of the cooling liquid jet 15.
To achieve a greater density of the cooling liquid jet 15, a larger volume of cooling liquid is necessary from the pump 14 into the centrifugal wheel 13; behaves nism moderately narrow or axially thin Schleu derrad 13; small distance between liquid metal jet 23 and centrifugal wheel 13 and a short arc length of the cooling liquid jet 1.5.
A reduction in the arc length of the cooling liquid jet 15 can be achieved by shorter blades 39, by reducing the circumferential length of the opening 43 in the annular body 41 and by increasing the number of blades in the centrifugal wheel 13.
The passage cross-section of the opening -13 in the ring body 41. is also a determining factor for the splitting effect on the liquid metal jet 23. In general, when the cross-section of the opening 43 is reduced, the speed of the cooling liquid flowing through increases.
The fragmentation of the liquid metal beam 23 comes. comes about because its surface tension, which is high in comparison to other liquids, is overcome by the cooling liquid jet 15. Once this surface tension has been overcome, which requires considerable force, any excess force that may still be present is used to further break up the metal particles that have already been broken up.
It may be desired. be to produce a large part of coarse gravel, or the opposite may be the case if z. B. the steel shot produced is further processed who should on metal powder. In this latter case, the production of fine-grained gravel offers the advantage that the subsequent grinding operations can be shortened.
In the jet of cooling liquid 15 thrown away from the centrifugal wheel, air can be a closed; however, in certain cases this is undesirable because of the oxidation phenomena it causes. This is particularly true when producing gravel of great fineness; the whole process can then be carried out in a low-oxygen or reducing atmosphere.
The steel shot produced is hurled in a directed beam with very little scattering at a certain point in the device, which allows it to be easily removed from the device. Furthermore, the operation is safe because no metal parts are flying around freely.
