Drive device of a turntable. When reproducing a quality record, the smallest variations in speed are sensitive to the ear and therefore affect the good quality of reproduction.
This is the reason why .in most devices currently on the market, the record player is driven by friction, being connected to its drive motor by a wheel, the periphery of which is provided with a coating. made of rubber or other material having a high coefficient of friction.
These drive devices comprising drive members by friction: give satisfaction, may .. do not allow with difficulty a link presenting as several transmission ratios allowing to drive the turntable at will to one of the three normal speeds (78 t./m., 45 t; lm., 33 i / 3 t / m.).
The present invention relates to a drive device for a turntable comprising a speed change having an intermediate wheel driving by friction the: turntable and in drag itself by friction by one of several rotary members driven in rotation by a drive motor.
This device differs from known devices in that at least two of said rotary members are mounted on a support movable angularly, with the aid of an operating member, along an axis parallel to that of the turntable. discs, stop means being provided to define the angular positions of said support for which one of said rotary members is in contact with said intermediate wheel,
and by the fact that said rotary members are interconnected by a single drive belt.
The appended drawing shows, schematically and by way of example: two embodiments of the device.d'entra.inement object of the invention.
The fi-. 1 to 3 are plan views of the first embodiment of the device, certain parts being torn away or removed for greater clarity of the drawing, the organs and elements of this device being shown in three different positions.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view along the line IV-IV. Of FIG. 1.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view along the line V-V of FIG. 1. with the turntable removed.
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the second embodiment of the device, some parts being cut away for clarity of the drawing.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view along the, li - ne VII-VII .de la fia. 6.
Fig. 8 is a sectional view along the line VIII-VIII of FIG. 6.
Fig. 9 is a view, on a larger scale, of a device for adjusting the tension of the belt. , According to the fi, -. 1 to 5 of the appended drawing, the drive device for the turntable 1 of a talking machine comprises a motor ill fixed on a frame 2 made integral with the base plate 3 of the machine by means of fasteners 4- which preferably include elastic elements (not shown)
. The shaft 5 of this motor carries a rotary member 01 connected by a belt C to two other rotary members 02 and 03 mounted on a support S. The members 02 and 03 are freely rotated on axes 6 rigidly fixed to the support S which is movable angularly using an actuator L. For this purpose, this support S is pivoted on a barrel 7 coaxial with the shaft 5 and integral with an intermediate support 8 fixed to the base plate 3 by means of fasteners 9 and by means of elastic elements f.
The shaft 5 is parallel to the axis of rotation p of the turntable 1.
This intermediate support 8 comprises a slot 10 in which is engaged one end of the .de mano3uvre member L. For this purpose, the end 11 -of this member is offset by a value e equal to the thickness, of the intermediate support. Thus, this end 11 rests on the upper face of this support 8, while the body .de the maneuvering member L is in contact with the lower face thereof.
This support 8 still has a light 12 in the form of an arc of a circle, crossed by a finger 13 integral with the support S and the end of which is engaged in a longitudinal slot 14 formed in the operating member L. A washer of felt 15 bearing, on the one hand, on the underside of the member L and, on the other hand, on an elastic ring 17 engaged in a groove of the finger 13, tends to hold the body of the member L in contact with the underside of the. intermediate support 8.
The latter also comprises -d'stopping notches 18, 19 and 20 with which cooperates, under the action of a spring 22; a lug. 21 integral with the member L. The second end of the operating member L emerges from the underside of the support 8 and constitutes a handle or operating lever.
The rotary members 01, 02, 03 each have two parts: coaxial 31 and 32. They are interconnected by a single belt C passing over their parts 31, the periphery of which is slightly convex.
Their parts 32 can be brought alternately, by actuating the actuator L, into contact with an intermediate wheel R, carried by a lever 24, articulated on the base plate 3. This intermediate wheel is held in contact. with the edge of the turntable 1 and with one of the rotating parts by a spring 23.
The longitudinal movements .du lever 24 necessary for this purpose are made por.sibles by the fact that the axis 25 of the articulation of this lever on the base plate 3. Is engaged in a slot 26 made in said lever .
The axis 27. Of the intermediate wheel R rotates in a bearing 28 rigidly fixed to the lever 24. A clearance 29 (fi- 5) made in the base plate 3 allows movement of this bearing 28 relative to the latter.
The operation of the device described above is as follows: When the maneuvering member L is located in the position shown in FIG. 1, part 32 of the rotary member 01 is in contact with the periphery of the intermediate wheel R.
The diameters of this part 32 and of the wheel R are calculated, with respect to the speed of rotation of the shaft 5 and to the diameter of the race r of the wheel R on the turntable plate, from so that the speed of rotation of this platter is 78 tlm., which corresponds to the speed of rotation necessary for the hearing of most records.
A slip between the wheel R and the rotating member, on the one hand, and the turntable, on the other hand, under the action of the normal torque to be transmitted, is made impossible by a rubber bead. b or another material having a large coefficient of friction applied to the periphery of the wheel R.
Ion angularly displacing the member L into the position shown in FIG. 2, the user has the possibility of bringing the part 32 of the organ 02 -in contact with the intermediate wheel R.
The latter has been moved by this rotary member, against the action of the spring. 23, so that the angle a formed by the spokes of the intermediate wheel passing through its points of contact with the plate, on the one hand, and, with the rotary member 02, on the other hand, has approximately the same value as in the case of fig. 1.
The diameters of the parts 31 and 32 of the rotary member 02 are chosen, relative to the diameter of the part 31 of the rotary member 01, so that the turntable is driven at the speed of 33 1/3 rpm.
On the other hand, when the actuator L is placed in the angular position shown in FIG. 3, the support of the rotating members has rotated by a sufficient angle around the barrel 7 for the. part 32 of the rotary member 03 is in contact with the periphery of the intermediate wheel R.
The diameters of the parts 31 and 32 of this rotary member 03 are chosen relative to the diameter of the part 31 of the member 01, so that the turntable is driven at a speed of 45 t / m.
As shown in fig. 3, the intermediate wheel has been moved by the rotating member 03, against the action of the spring 23, so that the angle formed by the spokes of the. wheel R passing through the points of contact of the latter with the plate, on the one hand, and with the organ 03, on the other hand, is approximately the same value as for the positions of the organ L shown in fig. 1 and 2.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 6 to 8, we find the same members and elements as those described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 5 of the accompanying drawing or their equivalents.
The engine ill is fixed by means of elastic elements f to the base plate 3 which carries a barrel 7 coaxial with the shaft 5 and traversed by the latter. On this barrel is pi voted the support S which carries the maneuvering organ L fixed rigidly on it and which consists of a simple handle or lever. The shaft 5 carries a drive member E rigidly fixed on its end emerging above the support S.
This member E \ presents a part 41 intended for. receive a belt C passing over parts 31 of the three rotary members 01, 02, 03 carried by the support S.
A lock consisting of a lever 30, articulated at 33 on the base plate 3 and carrying a spout 34, cooperating, under the action of a spring 35, with notches 36 made in the edge 37, in the form arc of a circle centered on the shaft 5, of the support S, defines the three positions of this support for which one of the three rotary members 01, 02, 03 is in contact with the intermediate wheel R.
The latter is pivoted at one end of the lever 38 articulated at 39 by its other end on a second lever 40 rotating on an axis 42 carried by the base plate 3. A spring 43 acting on the lever 38 tends to keep the wheel R in contact with the edge of the turntable 1, on the one hand, and with one of the rotary members 01, 02, 03, on the other hand.
These are located approximately equidistant from each other and are arranged on a circle centered approximately on the motor shaft 5.
As in the embodiment described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 5, depending on the angular positions occupied by the actuator L, the turntable is driven by means of one or the other of the rotary members 01, </ B > 02, 03. By choosing the diameters of the parts 31 and 32 of these rotary members, it is easy to obtain the three speeds of rotation of the plate 1 desired.
Finally, notches 44 with which the spout 34 of the lever 30 cooperates, define the positions for which the mechanical connection between the motor 1Z and the turntable is interrupted.
The drive device described can also be provided with a device for adjusting the tension of the belt C. One embodiment of this device is shown schematically in FIG. 9. The axis 6 of one of the rotary members carries a foot 45 eccentric and engaged in 11n bore46 of the supports. By pivoting the foot 45 in its bore, it causes displacement of 1-axis 6 parallel to itself.
A locking member 47 makes it possible to fix the position of the axis 6.
It is obvious that only one or more of the axes 6 can be provided with such an adjustment device.
From the foregoing and from the examination of the accompanying drawing, it is easy to see that the device described makes it possible to effect a speed change for record players in a particularly simple manner. In addition, this device has a small footprint, so that it can easily be housed in the body of a talking machine.
It is obvious that many other embodiments can be conceived without going outside the scope of the present invention. Indeed, one can provide any number of different drive speeds of the turntable, since it suffices to provide the corresponding number of angular positions of the operating member and the necessary number of rotary members. such as 01, 02, 03 presenting -two coaxial parts 31 and 32,
one intended to receive the belt C_. the other intended to drive the wheel R by friction.
In an alternative embodiment of the embodiment shown in FIGS. 6 to 8 the motor shaft 5 could be coaxial with one of the rotary members 01, 02, 03. In this case, the motor 11 would be suspended from the support S and the drive member E would be deleted. This variant is however less interesting from the point of life .constructive than the embodiment described with reference to the drawing,
because the motor is moved angularly with the support S, which necessitates providing in the speaking machine a very large space free of any member to allow these displacements of the motor 31.
