Process for the preparation of an indolyl-diphenylmethane dye. In the German patent specification No. 604429 a process for the preparation of indo- 1y1-diplienylmetlianfarbstoffen is described, which consists in condensing 4,4'-dihalogenbenzophenones or 4,4'-dialkoxybenzophenones with α-substituted indoles, then with primary aromatic amines,
which contain an alkoxy group in the p-position to the amino group, converts and then sulphates.
It has now been found that dyes with very good dyeing properties are obtained if 3,3'-disulfonic acids of 4,4'-dihalobenzophenones or 4,4'-dialkoxybenzophenones with indoles which are in the 2-position, optionally also substituted in the 1-position by aliphatic or isocyclic hydrocarbons. are and can still be substituted, condensed and reacts the condensation products with aromatic amino compounds.
Examples of starting materials include: 4,4'-dihalobenzophenone-3,3'-disulfonic acid, 2,4,2 ', 4'-tetrachlorobenzophenone-3,3'-disulfonic acid or 2,2' -Dimethyl.-4,4'-dichlorobenzophenoridisoleic acid. One can of course also use the corresponding alkoxybenzophenone derivatives, for example 4,4'-dimethoxy- or 4,4'-diethoxybenzophenone-3,
3'-disulfonic acids run out.
Such benzophenones are condensed with indoles which are substituted in the 2-position by the methyl group or other alkyl radicals or by isocyclic hydrocarbon radicals which, for example, can also contain halogen substituents.
It is advantageous to use those indoles which are substituted in the 2-position and which are substituted on the nitrogen by alkyl radicals or isocyanic hydrocarbon radicals. Such indoles can also be substituted, for example in the benzene nucleus.
Sulphonic acids of indoles can also be used, and dyes that represent trisulphonic acids are obtained after condensation and after fusing with aromatic amines.
As aromatic amines are primarily compounds of the benzene or Naphtha lin series into consideration, which can be substituted in various ways, eg. B. by alkyl, alkoxy, acyloxy, halogen, oxy, amino or carboxyl groups. The following are listed in detail:
Aniline, toluidines, xylidines, mesidines, phenetidine, aminodiphenyl, aminophenol, aminobenzenecarboxylic acids, chloroaniline, α- or β-naphthylamine and substitution products of these amines, which can also be partially hydrogenated.
According to the present process, he holds dyes with a well-defined constitution and a known degree of sulfation. The dyes differ from the compounds available in accordance with German Patent No. 604429 in various ways, for example in their purity, their drawability from a neutral bath and their leveling power. The color scale can be extended to red-violet.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of an In dolyl-diphenylmethane dye, which is characterized in that 4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone-3,3'-disulfonic acid with 1-methyl-2-phenylindole is approximately Molecular ratio condensed and the condensation product obtained reacts with an excess of aniline.
Example: 35 parts by weight of 4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone-3,3'-disulfonic acid sodium are condensed with 13.5 parts by weight of 1-methyl-2-phenylindole by phosphorus oxychloride in the presence of chlorine zinc. The condensation product separates out as a hydrochloric acid salt with a red color. It is isolated and fused with 100 parts by weight of aniline for two to three hours at 100.degree.
The dye melt is stirred with hydrochloric acid to remove the excess aniline and the formed dye is dissolved using sodium carbonate and salted out with sodium chloride.
The product obtained in this way is a shimmering violet powder which dyes wool and silk in pure blue, lightfast shades and is characterized by very good drawability from neutral baths.
