Sealing device for pressurized fluid capacity, in particular for high pressure extinguisher. The invention relates to a shut-off device for pressurized fluid capacity, applicable in particular, but not exclusively ment, to fire extinguishers. high pressure.
It is known that, especially in fire extinguishers, it is important that the discharge of the fluid can be promptly, and if necessary massively, caused.
For this purpose, the capacity is provided with a positive obt.uracion device comprising at least one valve, which is actuated by means of a mechanism separating said valve from its seat, and comprising a lever cooperating with the. rod, or another member connected to this valve.
On the other hand, to spare the. fluid reserve, as well when the capacity is. completely charged that when it has already been partially discharged, it should be possible to block on its seat at least one of the valves providing passage to the fluid of the. capacity towards the discharge, in order to ensure its tightness.
For this purpose, we do. include, on the one hand, this valve, and. in particular to. its rod, and, @ aLitre part, its maneuver mechanism re-means suitable for allowing said valve to be pressed on its seat. These means are advantageously.
constituted by a "nut, engaged on a threaded portion of the stem .dudit. valve, and bearing either on a fixed part of the body of the shutter device, or on the operating lever, which lever is, in this case, associated with a stop, material to allow it to constitute a stable support for the locking nut.
The use of an operating mechanism comprising the blocking of at least one of the valves in its closed position, is then opposed to a rapid opening action, in that the blocking must be released first. . useful actuation of the operating lever, which implies prior action by the operator and constitutes a drawback; Particularly severe in the case of fire extinguishers.
The invention overcomes this drawback. Its purpose is. a shut-off device for pressurized fluid capacity, in particular for high pressure extinguishers, comprising at least one valve capable of being blocked on its seat by a mechanical blocking device and an operating mechanism for actuating the valves, characterized by means for rendering the locking device inoperative.
at the very moment when the operating mechanism is acted on to cause the discharge of the fluid, these means comprising a movable support for a member of the locking device, and a key device controlling this support, arranged to be able to be actuated at the same time as one acts on the operating mechanism and intended to move .l'appui, so as to release said member from the locking device.
Key embodiments of the invention are. . described below and, illustrated, in certain cases phis or me schematically, by way of example, by the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is an elevational view, partly in section, of a first embodiment.

Fig. 10 shows in elevation, partly in section, an embodiment where the operating lever controls the locking by an auxiliary member.
Fig. 11 is yet another embodiment, of the same type as FIGS. $ and 9.
The same reference numerals denote the same or similar members in the various figures and., In FIG. 1., 1 denotes the ability to. fluid evenly under pressure, 2 generally the body of the obturator device mounted on this capacity and comprising in step 3 terminated by the outlet orifice 4, no valve:
5 comprising a rod 7 passing through a stuffing box S and having a threaded portion 9 on which is. engaged a nut 1.0 allowing to Mock the valve. 5 on his Seat.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1, known in that> of the other figures, the device comprises only one valve, and the latter opens against the pressure (read fluid.
It should be understood that it could be in the trement, that is to say due the device could include pltts, ieurs valves, and. the opening of these is carried out in the direction of the fluid thrust. Spring wire 6 has been shown as a return member of the valve on its seat, whatever the direction of opening of the latter relative to the pressure of the fluid.
11 designates the inanceuvre lever, articulated in 12 on the body? and. able <to act in 13 on the fi. 7. Advantageously, to make the action of the operator -safe, rapid and healthy, there is also provided a member 14 extending more or less parallel to the lever 11, and generally fixed either to the body. 2 of the device, or on the.
capacity by forming a gripping handle.
For, if necessary, maintain the lever 11 in the position for which the valve 5 is open, after execution of the auvertiu # e maneuver, a lever 15 is still provided, articulated at 16 on the. handle 14, and provided with eneoclies 17, the lower of which serves for the aforesaid bare rete, while the upper can be used to prevent untimely or accidental actions on the lever 11 when the opening of the lever 11 is not desired. valve 5.
As described hitherto, the device binds no different from those already known, and it will be observed that the nut 10 being supposed to be tightened so as to come to bear on a stable member, such as for example the extension. i8- deny Sa. the tightening nut of the stuffing box 8, before the key can act on the lever 11 and thereby remove the valve 5 from its seat, it is necessary o) Ii-atoirenient loosen the nut 10 in the,
measure required to allow the valve to open; this constitutes the aforementioned key prior action for the operator and necessarily entails a very appreciable loss of time.
To avoid the obligation of loosening the nut 10, it is interposed between this nut and the organ which, otherwise, would have served as a support, tightening, here the widening Sa. </ B > a member 1.8 having the form of a plate constituting the movable support for the member of the aforementioned blocking device, provided with an elongated opening 19 allowing the passage of the threaded rod 9 , a higher portion 20 and. of a lower portion? 1, these portions 20 and 21. being connected by sky inclined planes 22.
On the other hand, the member 18 comprises an extension 23, in which is. formed a notch 21, and it is constantly brought back towards it. right by a resoi-t 25 stretched between the member 18 and a fixed attachment point 26, for example provided on a lateral appendage 11a. of the body of the device. The above arrangement is clearly visible in FIG. 2.
In the notch 2-1 of the extension 23 is engaged the end 28 of a lever 27 (finished piece with, or made integral for its oscillating movements, the lever 11, a downward pressure exerted on the 'key free end, lever 11 tending to move the body 1.8 to the left, and, the éeroii 10 being, supposed to rest on said body, clans.
appearing high 20 thereof, but in the vicinity as immediate as possible of the inclined planes 22, said movement to the left of the member 18 will have the effect of stealing its support from the nut 10, so that the lowering of vier 11 can occur by determining. the opening of the valve. 5. To facilitate unclogging of the member 18, the nut 10 is given a rounded shape, and in principle more or less spherical, on its underside.
When the lever 11. is. released, the spring 6 pushes the valve 5 upwards, on its seat, and by the action of the spring 25, the member 1.8 is brought back to the right by reoccupying its blocking position.
Of course, before the aforementioned lowering maneuver of the lever 11, the safety 15 is. erased.
In the key arrangement in fig. 3, the lever 11 not only serves as a manceuvre member to actuate the valve 5, but also plays the role of a member .du blocking device.
As before, the. external tei'iii1- nal portion of the. valve rod 7 is threaded, and this portion passes through an opening 11a of lever 11, and receives on the outside a nut 7a bearing on said lever 11 when it is desired to block the valve. 5 on its seat, the upper notch 17 of the gripping lever 15.
the end of the lever 11 as shown. The opening of the valve 5 is obtained, as emerges from the, fi, .mre by the action of bosses 11.h of the lever 11 on a shoulder 7b formed by an intermediate widening of the. valve stem 7.
With the lever 15 comprising the notches 7.7, is associated the lever 30 mounted on the axis 16 of the lever 1: 5 and made integral in rotation with this axis, and this lever, for example by means of a screw. blocking 31.
On the other hand, the gripping member or handle 1, which is hollow and established, for example U-shaped, is provided with a slot 32 through which the lever 30 protrudes at the exterior, its end being advantageously provided with a support 33 for the duty of the operator. The layout. is, such as when pressing the end of the lever 30 for the.
move upwards, the upper notch 17 engaged on the end of the lever 11, which notch here constitutes the movable support for the member of the aforementioned locking device, is released from this end by allowing said lever 11 to move.
Starting then from the positions of the members shown in the figure if the operator simultaneously grasps the lever 11 and the handle 11, with one of his fingers, and for example the index placed on the support 33, and s' it exerts pressure simultaneously by this finger. on lever 30 and on lever 11, lever 15 will be released. .from the end of the lever 11 by allowing this lever to lower and move the valve 5 away from its seat.
Full opening stroke, releasing it. pressure on .l'appui 33, the .levier 15 can come to engage, by its lower notch 17, the end c111 lever 11., by locking the latter in this position, this q111 can be facilitated by it res out 34 tending to turn the lever 15 inwards.
The return to the. initial position shown is obtained by reverse maneuvers, la. pressure exerted by the operator being .dans this -cas, more provided on the lever 11, to allow the latter to stand up bristles 1a. thrust exerted by the spring 6 pressing the valve 5 on its seat.
When lever 11 is. again locked by the upper notch 17 of the lever 15, the nut 7a can be actuated to further block the valve 5 on its seat, if this was necessary or desirable to ensure its perfect seal.
In the. arrangement according to FIG. 4, the lever 11 also serves as a clamping support by cooperation with the lever. 15, but the means for releasing the latter lever from the upper notch 17 which constitutes the movable support for the member of the aforementioned locking device are. different.
These ways are. constituted by a member 35 articulated at 36 on the lever 11, said member being constantly returned to the position represented by springs such as 37 and 38 fixed to the lever 11 and acting on the upper and lower sides of said member. The outer end of the member 35 is cam-shaped, as at 39, and cooperates with a guide path 40 formed on the lever 15.
As can easily be seen from the drawing, if, from the position shown, the member 35 is lowered, the. cam 39 co will operate with path 40 to push lever 15 outwardly with the result of disengaging the end of lever 11 from upper notch 17 of this lever, thereby allowing lever 11 to be moved.
If the lever 17. is then lowered so that its end engages in the lower notch 17, by an upward pressure exerted on the or gane 35, we will move aside again. the lever 1.5 outwards by releasing]. 'end of lever 11 from said notch 17 and allowing it to be moved, and in particular brought upwards under the influence of the thrust exerted by the spring 6 for return the valve 5 to its seat.
The operation is as follows: the operator by entering simultaneously. the lever 11 and the handle 14 put pressure by a portion of the hand on]. 'member 35 by lowering this member, which moves the lever 15 and. releases the end of the lever 11 from the upper notch 17, the lever 11 being simultaneously lowered by removing the valve. 5 from its seat. At the full opening stroke, the spring 34 which is on the lever 15 engages the lower notch 17 of this lever on the end of the lever 17., thus locking the latter in the open position of the valve 5 .
The discharge ended, by a pressure of a finger, of the hand retaining the lever 11 and the handle 14, the operator lifts the organ 35 by removing the lever 15 and releasing it. the lever 11, which it can then let return to its initial position under the. thrust of spring 6 influencing valve 5.
Once in the upper position, the end of the lever 11 is again engaged by the upper erreoclie 17 due to the action of the spring. 34 on lever 15, and the small lever 11 serve as a locking fulcrum for the ecroa 7a which, if necessary, will be tightened a little to perfect the seal valve 5.
Instead of exercising directly. the pressure on the member 35, the maneuvering of this small member. be obtained by an action exerted on an appropriate organ which is connected to it, such as for example on Him lever such as 41.
In fig. 5, the lever 11 is also used. , the clamping support for the nut 7a, but this lever is marri on its underside of a cam-shaped projection 4 ?, which cooperates with a member, mushroom-shaped, 43,
here constituting the movable support for the member of the aforementioned key locking device mounted on one of the branches 44 of an elbow lever articulated at 45 on a fixed member and, for example, the lateral appendage 14a of the body ? serving for the fixing of the organ or gripping handle 14,]. 'other branch 47 of the bent lever being biased by a spring. 48,
(The way such that normally the branch 44 occupies an upright position as shown in the drawing. On this branch 47 of the bent lever is, moreover, provided an org-ane49 in the form of a key hook, which cooperates with a transverse pin 50 engaged in the lever 11 substantially above the cham pinion 43.
The arrangement is as when a marked pressure is. exerted on the lever 11, the. came 4 \? by acting on: the cham pinion 43 does. swing the lever driven against the action of the spring. 48 by allowing actuation of the valve 5. while due when said lever 11 is. released and returns to the raised position under the influence of the spring.
6 pressing the valve 5 on its seat, said elbow lever is raised and engages the mushroom 43 sort the cam 4? in a sufficiently firm manner to allow the lever 11 to act as a clamping support for the nut 7a. If desired, the engagement ide cam 42 and. of chanipiânon 43 can be made firm by engaging the hook. 49 and. of the. ankle 50.
According to an arrangement of analogous principle shown in FIG. 6, the lever 1.1 is. composed of heaven parts 11 and lld joined together by a hinge such due llc. On part 1.1. is articulated a link 51 and on a fixed part opposite, such as the part 14a of the body of the valve, is articulated a link 5 _, the skies links being articulated to each other at 53 and packaged key way to constitute a knee brace, brought back constantly.
in the extended position by a spring 54. This set of links here forms the movable support for the member of the aforementioned locking device. The other part of the lever 11, namely the part 71d is provided with an appendage 55 arranged to act on the articulation 53 key the toggle and bend the latter when the two parts 11 and 1.1d of the lever 11. are aligned.
The arrangement is such. That, normally, the. part 11d of the lever is pushed back into the position shown, while the toggle is in the extended and locked position. Therefore, by lowering the part lld of the key operating lever 11, the appendix 55 comes into contact with the joint 53, then breaks. the commitment of the. toggle allowing the \ -continuation of the lowering movement of said lever and] 'opening of the valve. 5.
The release of the portion lld of the operating lever returns the members to the position shown. In the. fig. 7, the arrangement is. key principle similar to that of fig. 6 as regards the arrangement of the operating lever, but the toggle device is replaced by the device described below.
On the internal portion of the operating lever is or are mounted one or two tabs 59, on which is fixed a transverse pin 60. On the other hand, on a fixed part, for example, the appendix 14a. of the body ?, is articulated at 57 a lever 56 terminated by a fork with unequal branches capable of gripping the pin 60. The lever 56 is constantly urged in the position of engagement of the fork with the pin by a spring. 58.
Finally a lug. 61 is provided at the lower internal end of the portion lld of the operating lever, the agency being. such as part 11d is slightly. raised compared. to the internal part of the operating lever, as is shown, when the lever 56 is in the engagement position, while when this part 11d is in alignment with the internal part la. pin 60 is released from the fork of lever 56, allowing the operating lever to be lowered and valve 5 to operate.
As it is easy to realize, in the position of engagement of the lever 56 and the pin 60, the internal portion of the operating lever constitutes a stable fulcrum for the tightening of the valve. 5 on its seat using the nut 7a, and pressure exerted on the free end of the. Key external portion this lever causes first of all the release of the pin 60 and then the opening of the valve 5, the members automatically returning to the positions shown when the free end of the.
outer portion of the operating lever is. released.
In fig. 8, the lever 1.1 is. actuated by a mechanism comprising, .d'on the one hand, an operating cam for lowering the lever and, on the other hand., a retaining hook, so as to. allow it to constitute a clamping fulcrum, the arrangement being such that, in operation, the hook is disengaged before the cam comes into action.
On a fixed part, and in particular. on appendix 14n says body 2, est. mounted a console 64 comprising Him transverse axis 6 \? on which pivots a member 63 on which are formed a cam 65 and a hook 66, the cam 65 cooperating with a boss 67 formed on the lever 11, and the hook 66 cooperating with the end of this lever.
Body 63 can. be part of a control lever, of which it then constitutes the end, or else such a lever can be associated with said member either in a removable manner, or so as to be able to be tilted as it is partially shown in 63a.
The axis of rotation 62 being situated substantially on the vertical of the hook and of the bos sage 67, in the engagement position of this hook, the lever 11 constitutes a. stable fulcrum for the nut 7ca for tightening the valve 5 on its seat, while by rotation of the or gane 63 deers the direction said point. fixed pivoting lever 11, this hook. 66 disengages from the end of the lever, then the.
cam 65 by acting on the boss 67 lowers the lever 11 and determines the opening of the valve 5, the members returning to their initial positions shown when the member 63 is rotated in the. direction in verse of. former. The mechanism 63-66 here constitutes the movable support for the member of the aforementioned locking device.
In fig. 9, the. arrangement is similar, but instead of gripping the end of the lever 11, the hook 66 comes, in the normal position, to be placed under a transverse pin 68 carrying the end of said. lever, the lowering thereof being obtained. by a rotation of the or gane 63 in the direction of clockwise.
According to. fig. 10, the. open-Read control of the valve 5 is obtained by the direct action of a cam 69, articulated on a transverse axis 70, the lever 11. being yes indeed integral with this cam 69 as shown, or else mounted on the 'axis 70, in this case renders solid in rotation of the cam 69. The cam 69 acts on lateral projections 71. key the rod 7, an extension of which is provided with an elongated opening 72, crossed by the axis 70, and threaded to receive the locking nut 7a. This nut bears on a member 73, for example in the form of a stirrup, articulated on the axis 70 and. ending in a fork embracing the threaded portion of the rod 7.
By the one-year end 75 of the branches of the fork, the caliper 73 is connected, by links 74, to a point. 76 of the lever 11. Under these conditions, the tilting of the lever 11 in the direction of the arrow, causes the caliper 73 to move down and removes the support of the nut 7a, the, sanie 69 coming into action to open valve 5.
The reverse movement of the lever 11 brings the members back to the position shown.
In the, arrangement according to FIG. 11, a maneuvering member 77, articulated at 62 on consoles 64 like the member 63 of FIGS. 8 and. 9, also features. a cam portion 6.5, which acts here, on the one hand, on the locking lever 1.5, normally held in the engagement position by the spring 34 and, on the other hand, on the operating lever 11, the displacement of said. organ 77 in the sense of. arrow releasing.
first the lever 11 of the notch 17 of the lever 15, then lowering this lever 1.1. for the. manaauvre of the shutter (s) of the shutter device. By releasing the organ 7 7 the organs return to the posi- tions shown.
