Metal string with several strands twisted together. The subject matter of the present invention is a metal string having several S strands twisted with one another.
It has already been proposed to use metal strings for musical instruments as well as for other purposes, e.g. B. to produce tennis rackets from several twisted strands for the purpose of "making the string more flexible than the usual 31-metal string. Such strings consisting of several strands are not widely used, however, because they are made from relatively few Strands were produced, e Z, which are twisted together with a large pitch angle (50 and more degrees).
According to the present invention, the individual strands are now twisted together so that the angle of inclination of the '-,' strands is less than 4511. This gives you a string
which is more flexible than the known metal strings and which has the same resonance as strings made from catgut. It is well known that the catgut strings of this type are rarely used because they wear out quickly.
In the accompanying drawing, an exemplary embodiment of the invention is shown. 1) The drawn string here has a central > core 2, which serves as a core strand and which is formed from a soft metal such as copper or alumium.
This core has a diameter of 0.170 mm 0.005 min. Eight steel strands consisting of several twisted wires with a diameter of 0.12 mm are twisted around this core in such a way that their angle of inclination is less than 450. Over the strands is as a sheath a single, flat-rolled aluminum lim wire 3 with a thickness of 0.15 mm is wound so that the string has an even and smooth outer surface.
The pitch angle of the sheath wire 3 is advantageously chosen to be as small as possible, that is to say smaller than 10 ". When this string is stretched in a stretching instrument, the steel strands are seen 1 stretch a little, that is, its angle of inclination is increased a little and the tension created in the string is almost completely absorbed by the steel strands 1 by the soul 2 consists of such a soft material that it is stressed beyond its yield point.
The operating level execution form. shows an example of a relatively thick string, while it would of course also be possible to twist strands, re 1 directly with one another without interposing a core 2, but again with the pitch angle must be kept below 450. The outer turn 3 of the - illustrated embodiment consists of a single outer strand,
which can consist of a wire bundle or a single wire. With the string described it is possible to obtain a resonance which, see, very closely approaches that of a catgut string. The individual strands can be twisted so thinly and so tightly that the string surface is practically smooth.
Such strings can be used for some purposes where ordinary metallic strings are now used.
