Äther gelöst; dazu gibt man 23 Gewichtsteile N,N- Diäthyl-acetamid, gelöst in 300 Volumteilen abs.
Process for the production of amines. (leensta-nd of the present invention is a new process for the preparation of amines from amides with the same number of carbon atoms.
It is known that acid amides z. B. by Hofmannsehen degradation in amines, which contain one carbon atom less than the starting amides. Various methods have also been described in the literature, according to which amides can be reduced to amines with the lead number of carbon atoms.
Thus, this reduction by a catalytic route when copper chromium oxide catalysts are used at 200 to 300 atmospheres and about 250 (Newer methods of preparative organic chemistry, p.132, Berlin 1913). Amides can also be electrolytically reduced to amines (Fr.
Fichter, Organic Electrochemistry, p. 265 ff., 1912). The known methods are often satisfactory, however. not because severe conditions are required which give rise to side reactions.
It has now been found that carboxylic acid amides can be reduced to amines with good success if lithium aluminum hydride is used as the reducing agent.
The process allows unsubstituted or substituted amides to be aliphatic; alicyclic, aromatic, araliphatic or heterocyclic carbonic acids apply.
The amide group can also form part of a ring, as in laetams, for example in 2-pyridones or 2-quinolones, and also in dicarboximides, e.g. B. phthalimides or quinolinimides. The acid residues of the amides can also carry substituents, such as, for example, free or etherified oxy groups.
If several carboxamide groups are present in the molecule, polyamines are obtained.
The reduction is preferably carried out in the presence of an inert, anhydrous organic solvent in which the lithium aluminum hydride is soluble, in particular in the presence of ether, and also of tetrahydrofuran, butyl ether, dioxane and the like. -The results are particularly good. Amides obtained which are easily soluble in the diluent used.
According to the inventive method, it is possible to obtain amines in a very simple manner that are not so easily obtainable by the known Ver drive, such. B. amines, the nitrogen atom of which is connected to three different organic radicals ver. A great advantage of this process is that it can be carried out at low temperatures, which means that undesirable side reactions can be avoided. The simultaneous hydrogenation at most any existing carbon multiple bonds can usually be avoided.
In the following examples. between part by weight and part by volume has the same relationship as between grams and cubic centimeters. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1: Triäthylairtin. 9.5 parts by weight of lithium ahiminium hydride are abs in 360 parts by volume. Ether dissolved; 23 parts by weight of N, N-diethyl acetamide, dissolved in 300 parts by volume of abs. Ether, at such a rate as to keep the solution simmering.
After completion of the redllition, water is added to the reaction, acidified with sulphurous acid and extracted with ether to remove the acidic and neutral reaction products. It is then made strongly alkaline with 10N sodium hydroxide solution and extracted again with ether. The triethylamine of bp 89 is obtained from the ether extract.
EMI0002.0025
Example <SEP>?: 3tltyl-propylamine. 44 parts by weight of propionic acid ethylamide in 600 parts by volume of absolute ether are added to 19 parts by weight of lithium-aluminum-IIz-drid in 720 parts by volume of absolute ether. After the reaction has ended, work-up is carried out analogously to Example 1, and this is obtained Ethy 1-propylamine of bp 78.
Its hydrochloride melts at 222 to 223. Example 3:
EMI0002.0041
ss-Phe <SEP> ri.oxy-ötltylantin. To a solution of 4.6 parts by weight of lithium-aluminum hydride in 600 parts by volume of abs. 6.9 parts by weight of phenoxy acetamide are added dropwise to ether in such a way that the solution boils gently. After the reaction has ended, it is decomposed with water and the acidified with sulfuric acid reaction mass is extracted with ether.
Then one makes alkaline and extracts again poorly with ether. The ether market gives the ss-phenoxy-ethy lamin of bp. "104. Its picrate has a m.p. from 167 to 168.
