Process for the manufacture of a waterproof, non-detonating detonator and detonator obtained by this method. The present invention relates to the production of watertight, non-detonating detonators, in particular sieve detonators, for blasting operations and similar purposes,
whose core, enclosed in a shell, consists of self-combustible material and is produced by ejecting the mass from a nozzle.
Safety bouts are usually produced by enclosing a strand of loose black powder powder in a suitable textile cover, guiding the resulting cord through a caliber and applying a waterproof cover. There are different types of detonators with a coherent, water-resistant core, which is released by expelling a therinoplastic, nitrous,
Gelati- I 1: y nized nitrocellulose and suitable powdered oxidizing and reducing agent-containing mixtures from a nozzle. is produced, have been provided, in which detonators the penetration of water through faulty locations in the casing and the resulting extinction of the detonator are avoided.
However, detonators of this type have only limited applications due to their undesirable sensitivity to friction and blow-out.
# I Ini Suliweizer patent no. <B> 225163 </B>, with the pursuit of similar goals, it is envisaged to manufacture a watertight, non-detonating safety fuse that flattens one from a shell to less flammable or non-inflammable material, Has coherent, ejected core made of plastic material.
This core consists of a mixture of normally powdered oxidizing and reducing agents and a binding agent for this mixture that does not (jetonate, gelatinized - \ 7itroeellulose, but does not contain nitro-I # -eei-iii,
the weight of the binding means in the core mass is not greater than that of the composition of the oxidizing and reducing agents.
In the Swiss patent no. <B> 251397 </B> there is, among other things, a waterproof, non-detonating ignition agent which has a core which contains a thermoplastic binder.
This primer contains a water-insoluble, resinous, polymerized, unsaturated substance that begins to flow at a temperature of <B> 90 </B> to <B> 125 'C </B>, and a mixture of oxidizing agents and reducing agents which are able to react with such intensity that a continuous spreading of the combustion,
in the mass zn becomes light. The powdered oxy- c # dation and reducing agent contains preferably g silicon and a lead compound --3 which is found under Bil (Inn- of products,
such as lead monoxide and free oxygen, thermally; is replaceable. Examples of water-insoluble, polymerized, unsaturated compounds are polymerized esters of acrylic or methaeric acid, polymerized, unsaturated hydrocarbons, such as polystyrene or polymerized ethylene.
In British patent no. <B> 610069 </B>, among other things, a watertight, non-detonating detonator is claimed which has a core which is a thermoplastic binding agent which is at a temperature of <B> 90 </B> to <B> 125 'C </B> begins to flow and is free of organic nitrates, -and a powdered mixture of barium peroxide and a reducing agent, which are able to react with such intensity that the combustion can spread continuously will contain.
Examples of suitable reducing agents are sulfur, silicon, magnesium, calcium, and ferrous silicon.
It is <B> f </B> also mentioned "that these powdered mixtures of barium peroxide and the reducing agent can be mixed with other components in order to achieve certain combustion rates, for example iron and potassium nitrate, Al-Li-mini-Lun and potassium nitrate, Caleium oxalate, potassium bendromate, caleium silicide and potassium initrate,
and that the speeds can be changed depending on the proportion of the components. Examples of suitable thermoplastic binders are cell line acetate and water-insoluble, resinous, polymerized, unsaturated compounds, for example polymerized esters or a polymerized nitrile of acrylic or meth- a, crylic acid, polymerized vinyl esters of an inorganic or organic acid, Polyvinyl acetals or polymerized, unsaturated hydrocarbons,
such as polystyrene or polymerized ethylene.
The inventive method for producing a waterproof, non-detonating detonator, which is suitable for blasting and similar operations, with a core made of self-flammable material encased in a protective cover, is characterized in that powdered oxidizing and reducing agents are used in one <B> 60 </B> and <B> 150 '</B> C lying temperature with plasticized nitro;
polystyrene processed and the core mass obtained in this way is ejected from a nozzle at a temperature which is <B> 150 ° C </B> niellt exceeding. The invention relates to an igniter produced according to this method, which is characterized by the fact that the core mentioned is a non-porous, cohesive, rod-like body made of a thermoplastic mass, which see an intermediate <B> 60 </B> Lind 200 '<B> 0 </B> with lying suspension point,
plasticized nitropolystyrene with a nitrogen content of 9.4 to 14.4 1 / o, in which powdered oxidation and reducing agents are evenly distributed, the amount of plasticized nitropolystyrene not being sufficient to ensure continuous spreading air prevent burning through the core mt.
The nitro polystyrene claimed in the British patent no. 616453, the degree of nitration of which varies in the range from about 9.4 to 14.4% nitrogen content, is expediently used when carrying out the process as nitropolystyrene.
British patent no. 616453 claims a process for the production of nickel polystyrene rolls with a nitration ratio varying in the range from about 9.4 to 14.4% nitrogen, according to which one <B> 1 </B> Part of granulated or powdered polystyrene. in at least <B> 8 </B> parts of a nitrating acid mixture,
which consists of 90 to 60% nitric acid, 10 to 40 1 / o sulfuric acid and <B> 8 </B> to <B> 3 </B> l) / o water, enters, the nitrating acid during the entry of the polystyrene, is stirred and cooled until the grains or the powder of the polystyrene have dissolved to form a viscous liquid,
here- a-Ld the nitration, if necessary, continues in the viscous liquid at a temperature between <B> 0 </B> and <B> 60 'C </B> until the desired degree of nitration is achieved, and the nitropolystyrene from the viscous liquid al, Ls falls, preferably by adding the same in water or dilute waste acid with a content of at least 40% water.
In the above patent, a particularly suitable misehnitrating acid is one of <B> 80 </B> to <B> 70 </B>% nitric acid, 20 to <B> 30% </B> sulfuric acid and <B> 5 </ B> up to 2% water existing - # li-sehäure on given. It is also stated that it is generally expedient to use an amount greater than the amount of micic acid in relation to the polystyrene, the higher the molecular weight of the polystyrene.
The relative quantities of the powdered oxidizing and reducing agents should preferably be used in such a way that an igniter with the desired combustion wedge is obtained.
The nitrogen content of the nitropolystyrene is preferably between 11.0 and 14.4 1 / o. Suitable mixtures of powdered oxidizing and reducing agents are those which contain silicon and a lead compound, which can be thermally decomposed to form products such as lead monoxide and free oxygen:
also those mixtures that contain barium peroxide and a reducing agent, for example sulfur, silicon, # ilag, -nesitiiii, Calei # iiiii ", ilieifi and ferrosilicon.
It was established that red lead containing CT'eiiiiselie do not cause any hardening of the plasticized - \ - itropolyst, \ # i, ol ", further that one caused by barium peroxide in the mixture -z ## lkitliiiitiq. t has no influence on the Nitropol # -st, vrol au% and that powder mix,
Whatever lead, silicon, potassium nitrate or potassium perehlorate they contain, safety igniters burn faster if they are evenly distributed in phistified -nitropoly # styrene instead of plasticized nitrocellulose or plasticized - #, metal methaervlate.
Temperatures of <B> 80 </B> to 120 '<B> C </B> are usually expedient for ejecting the core mass from the nozzle% When manufacturing the core mass on a large scale, one will usually proceed as follows,
that either the powdered oxidizing agent or the powdered reducing agent is processed with the nitropoly stvrolinasse and subsequently the powdered reducing agent. or the powdered Ox # -dationsmittel incorporated.
When producing smaller batches, however, it is useful to incorporate a powdered (-u'eiiiiseh the oxide C <B> k5 </B> reduction and reduction components or the two powdered components at the same time.
If desired, the core of the watertight, non-detonating detonator can be provided with a central metal wire or thread made of plastic or textile material embedded in the longitudinal direction.
The procedure is explained in the following examples, in which parts are weight parts. The '.L \' - itropolv "3tyrene used is one which has a nitrogen content of about <B> 100000 </B> and a nitrogen content of <B> 13.96 </B>% and is mixed with dinitrotol thol oil in the - The plasticized Nitropol #, styrene compound also contains <B> 1 </B> 1 / o chalk, which is evenly distributed in it.
<I>Example<B>1:</B> </I> <B> 80 </B> parts of a 47.3 II / o red lead, <B> 20.3 </B> 1 / o potassium nitrate and The powdered mixture contains 32.4% silicon and is gradually converted into <B> 20 </B> parts of the nitropolystyrene mass contained in a Werner-Pfleiderer mixed maseliiiie with a steam jacket at a temperature of about <B> 80 ' C </B> worked in until the powdery mixture is well distributed in the nitro-polystyrene mass.
The mass obtained is transferred into an ejection tube, which has a cylindrical nozzle with a diameter of 1.14 mm, which is heated to about 80 ° C. The mass is ejected through this cylindrical nozzle.
The core that is pushed out is cooled sufficiently so that it becomes solid with it, and is then spun with a jute, lin). The filled core is then <I> n </I> covered with asphalt, then with Ba.-Liin- # full, -alii and finally with a colored varnish.
The combustion speed of the igniter is <B> 105 </B> seconds, Example 29: 80 parts of 38.4% red lead, 38.41 / o potassium nitrate and <B> 223.2% </ B> SilieiLim contain the powdered mixture are divided into 20 parts of nitropolystyrene mass, which are in a Werner-Pfleiderer mixing machine with a steam jacket,
