Description

Welding wire particularly suitable for gas welding steel. - For gas welding of soft carbon steel you need a welding wire that provides a weld seam that is just as ductile as the steel itself, but has a higher breaking strength and yield point than the steel.

This ensures that the plastic strain that occurs as a result of a tensile load on the welded piece is not created in the weld seam, but in the steel itself, and the elongation per unit length is considerably less than if the entire elongation was only in the weld seam takes place.

For gas welding of carbon steels, for example the steel St-44 of the German steel standards. Up to now, a leied welding wire has been used, which apart from iron still has about 0.11% carbon, 0.14% silicon, 0.98% manganese, 0.54% copper as well as -: contains no amounts of sulfur and phosphorus. When welding the above-mentioned steel with this welding wire, the material to be welded has a breaking limit which is at least the same as the internal breaking limit of the steel, which is 44 kg / mm2, but it was found that the notch toughness of various test pieces of the welding material was very different.

The subject of the invention is a welding wire which is particularly suitable for gas welding of soft carbon steels, which apart from iron consists of 0.08-0.12% carbon, 0.1-0.2% silicon, 0.9-1.3% manganese, 0.09-0.25% molybdenum, up to 0.03% sulfur and up to 0.03% phosphorus.

Such a welding wire can deliver a weld material whose ductility is at least equal to that of the steel welded to it, while its yield limit exceeds that of the steel and its lower breaking limit corresponds to the mean breaking limit of the steel (e.g. 48 kg / mm2) , whereby the mean breaking limit of the weld metal is equal to the upper breaking limit of the steel (e.g. 52 kg / mm2) and the notch toughness is greater and more uniform than; with a weld metal welded with the known welding wire.

The welding wire according to the invention is very fluid, forms. no pores and no sparks during welding.

With a welding wire containing 0.09% C, 0.14% Si, 1.02% Mn, 0.015% S, 0.018% P and 0.17% Mo, three test pieces made of St-44 steel were welded and from the welded pieces -urdeo test pieces made. These showed the following values during the test:

<tb> Notch toughness <SEP> (cmkg / mm2) <SEP> 7.29 <SEP> 7.46 <SEP> 7.58 The welding wire according to the invention should be free from alloy components that occur in known welding wires, such as copper. Chrome, nickel, tungsten and vanadium.
