B. in An strichfarben, Emailfarben, Lacken usw.

erhalten.
a.) Stanno-Plithaloeyanin, dargestellt nach dem Verfahren von Barreh, Dent und Lin- stead (Journal of the Chemical Society 1_936. Teil 2, Seite<B>1.732);
</B> b) ein modifiziertes Stanno-Phthaloeyanin, erhalten durch Reaktion von Stannoehlorid mit metallfreiem Phthaloeyanin gemäss der Methode beschrieben auf Seite 1733 und 1_734 (Journ. Chem. Soc. 1.936, Teil 9);
c) dasStanni-Phtlitiloey iinin (Pc = Sn = Pe), erhalten durch Erhitzen von gleiehen mole kularen Mengen von Dichlor-Zinn- mit Na- trium-Phthalocyanin in Alpha-Chlornaphtha- lin am Rüekflussküliler während ungefähr 25 Stunden, nachfolgendes Abfiltrieren bei 30 C, Auswaschen des Filterkuchens mit Ben zol und Trocknen des Produktes;
<I>Beispiel 7:</I> Zu 90 Teilen metallfreiem.
Process for the production of phthalocyanine preparations stabilized against flocculation and crystal formation. Body paints of the phthaloeyanine series, especially copper-phthaloeyanine, mono-chlorine-copper phthalocyanine and metal-free phthalocyanine, have a tinting power, beauty and lightfastness that enable them to be used on a large scale as valuable pigments for paints, varnishes, printing inks, printing varnishes, etc. . to serve.
If the phthalocyanines have so far only been used to a limited extent in practice for these purposes, this is due to a disadvantage associated with these pigments. They have a strong tendency to flocculate from liquid vehicles. The specialist understands this to mean the deposition of the pigment as soon as the paint is not thoroughly mixed or stirred. becomes. Of course, the separation of the incorporated pigment leads to a reduction in the coloring power. the paint, especially if zinc white or titanium oxide is used as an extender.
The chlorine-free copper phthalocyanine and the metal-free phthalocyanine also tend to form undesirably large crystals in the diluent. These crystals also reduce the coloring power of the paint. It should be noted that it is possible to bring a flocculated pigment back to a state of fine dispersion by vigorous stirring, for example by applying the paint with a spray gun, but the damage caused by crystal growth cannot be remedied in this way will.
Crystal growth occurs particularly easily if the liquid vehicle used or the diluent contains aromatic solvents such as toluene or xylenes.
It has already been proposed to prevent the floeken or crystallization of the Phthalocy anin pigments by producing an aluminum benzoate paint of copper plithalocyanine. However, this method has the disadvantage that the added substance or the substrate has no color value. and therefore acts as a diluent and reduces the coloring capacity.
According to the present invention, the tendency to flocculate and to crystallize is effectively combated in that a tin-free plithalocyanine pigment is intimately mixed with a tin phthalocyanine or a derivative thereof.
For a more detailed explanation of the terms tin phthalocyanine and its derivatives, it should be remembered that tin has the ability. to enter the phthaloeyanine complex as both bivalent and tetravalent metal. (Barret and coworkers, tour.
Chem. Soc. 1936. p. 1722-3.) If the tin enters as a bivalent metal, then stannophthalocyanine is formed, the structure of which corresponds to that of copper phthalocyanine or zinc phthalocyanine.
(Deut and employee, Jour. Chem. Soc. 1934, p. 1035.) When the tin enters as tetravalentes Me tall, however, the two free valences of tin can be occupied by halogen atoms, with derivatives of tin phthalocyanine, for example Dichlorotin phthalocyanine. Instead of chlorine, other anionic atoms or radicals can also occur, e.g. B.
Bromine, fluorine, hydroxy radicals, etc., depending on the method of preparation of the compound or its subsequent treatment. Furthermore, the tetravalent tin atom can also span two phthalocyanine complexes according to the scheme Pc = Sn = Pc, whereby the compound known as stanni phthalocyanine is formed.
Tests have shown that the various phthalocyanine compounds mentioned, namely both stannous and stannic compounds, are effective means of eliminating the disadvantages described when using paints with a pigment consisting of a phthalocyanine compound. This observation is surprising because there is no theoretical reason for any particular physical or chemical action between the two types of phthalocyanine.
There is also no simple explanation for the selectivity of the effect. Furthermore, it is strange that, although dichlorotin-phthalocyanine per se is not lightfast, mixtures containing up to 10 percent by weight of the tin compound do not show any reduced lightfastness according to the measurements made with the fadeometer. It seems,
that the copper compound has a stabilizing effect on the light resistance of the tin compound. Such a situation could not be foreseen based on the previous phthalocyanine literature.
In order to achieve a maximum protective effect, it is advisable to bring the tin-phthalocyanine compound into as intimate contact as possible with the finely divided copper phthalocyanine. It is known that such an intimate mixture with other auxiliary dyes, but for other purposes, is easily achieved by simultaneous precipitation from a common medium.
However, the tin phthalocyanines are not stable in concentrated sulfuric acid, the solvent normally used to make acid pastes, and for this reason joint precipitation is not the appropriate method for the present purpose.
It has been found that tin phthalocyanine can be brought into a state of fine distribution by grinding with table salt and then added to the also finely divided main phthaloeyanine pigment by simply mixing the two components according to a convenient method. The last-named main pigment can be converted into the state of fine distribution either by grinding with salt or by precipitation from a sulfuric acid solution.
The two pigments mentioned can be mixed with one another dry or wet. Furthermore, the two pigments can only be combined during the production of the paint, in that each is incorporated into the selected paint in the usual way.
The necessary additions of tin plithalocyanine are somewhat different, depending on the nature of the phthalocyanine mixture used as the main pigment, the type of tin compound serving as an auxiliary pigment and the results to be achieved. As a rule, a tin pigment addition of 1 to 5% of the main pigment is sufficient,
to protect monochloro copper phthalocyanine against flocculation.
The practically pure, chlorine-free copper phthalocyanine has a very strong tendency to flocculate and a relatively large amount of tin phthalocyanine is required as a protective agent. In order to achieve good results, the tin compound must be added in an amount of 5 to 12% of the chlorine-free copper compound.
However, the further advantage is achieved here that this additive simultaneously eliminates the tendency to crystallize. On the other hand, the addition of tin compound can be reduced considerably. if the 1'-main pigment mixture also contains mono-chloro-copper-phthalocyanine. For example, a product with an average chlorine content of <B> 1/2 </B> chlorine atom per molecule is on the market.
It has been found that an addition of about 6 percent by weight of dichloro-tin-phthalocyanine to this chloride of copper-plitlialocyanine protects against both flocculation and crystal formation. If on the other hand only to remedy the disadvantage of crystallization

In practice, any of the phthaloyanine compounds containing tin as the central metal can be used. These are given in the Barrett paper noted above.
The pigment mixture improved according to the invention is of particular advantage when aromatic solvents are used as thinners or vehicles which would otherwise cause crystal formation, e.g. B. in paints, enamel paints, lacquers, etc. The erfindungsgeinässen.Mischungen both in full strength and diluted with white pigments such as zinc oxide, titanium oxide, antimony trioxide, etc. can be used. will.
The following. Examples serve to illustrate preferred embodiments of the invention. All amounts given are parts by weight.
Example <I> 1: </I> 10 parts of dry common salt, 1 part of a te (, mixed, extracted with water and dried kut) fer-Phtlialocy anin-Piainents and flocculation has no particular disadvantages as a result, such as in pressure pastes for textiles or in rotogravure printing inks, then one is enough. small addition of 1 to <I> 5 </I>% of the tin compound to chlorine-free or metal-free phthalocyanine.
In order to produce printing inks or paints with a phthalocyanine compound as pigment, the aforementioned mixtures are combined with an organic liquid vehicle.
The following compounds can be used as tin-plithaloeyanine pigments with advantageous results: with a chlorine content. of not more than 6 percent by weight (practically monochloro-copper-phthalocyanine) and 0.05 part of di-elilor-tin-phthalocyanine crystals are ground together in a ball mill until full pigment strength is achieved. The development of the pigment strength is controlled by taking samples, leaching the salt content with water and testing the dried pigment residue using known test methods.
As soon as the product has reached its full strength, the product is removed from the mill and the salt is washed out of your pigment with water, 1 to 2 percent by weight hydrochloric acid being added. can be, and filtered off. The filter cake is washed out until it is acid free. The pigment can be used as a press cake, as a paste or dried.
Example <I> 2: </I> 10 parts of Dieb.l.or-tin-plithaloeyanine and 60 parts of dry common salt are ground together in a steel ball mill for 40 hours. The mixture is then washed out with water, as in Example 1, the pigment is filtered off, washed and dried.
3 parts of the pigment treated in this way are mixed with 97 parts of monochloro-Kiipfer phthalocyanine, which has previously been converted into a state of fine distribution by dissolving in sulfuric acid, precipitating with a large excess of water, filtering off and drying.
The pigment mixture obtained is placed in a paint mill and thoroughly processed in the presence of a nitrocellulose vehicle. In this way, a paint was obtained which, in the test, proved to be constant against flocculation.
If the dichlorotin phthalocyanine mentioned is replaced by equal amounts of the intermediate product obtained by hydrolysis with a chlorine content between 5 and 7 percent by weight, which can be regarded as chlorohydroxy tin phthalocyanine, similar results are obtained.
Example <I> 3: </I> 10 parts of dichloro-tin-phthalocyanine crystals and 40 parts of dry common salt are ground together for 60 hours in a steel ball mill. The pigment-salt mixture obtained is stirred with 400 parts of a 5% strength aqueous ammonia solution at a temperature of 90 to 1001 ° C. for one hour.
The hot alkaline suspension is filtered off and the filter cake is washed out to remove salts and ammonia.
Of the dihydroxy tin phthalocyanine obtained in this way, 5 parts with 95 parts of commercially available monochloro copper phthalocyanine, which is finely divided by dissolving in sulfuric acid, precipitating a large excess of water, filtering off and drying, is brought into a finely divided state had been processed dry to a powder ready for sale.
Furthermore, the aqueous color pastes can be mixed to a marketable paste before drying. will. The mixed pigments obtained in this way can be used in the form of homogenized press cakes or, after the addition of a dispersant, as a dispersed paste or, after drying, as anhydrous products. There is also the possibility of combining the two pigments in the given ratio in a paint or varnish vehicle, such as nitrocellulose, and grinding them in the usual way.
Paints and varnishes produced according to this embodiment of the process showed good resistance to flocculation.
Various hydrolysis products of dichloro-tin-phthalocyanine can in the above-described process under milder conditions, e.g. B. shortening the treatment time or lowering the tempera ture can be obtained. For example, by stirring the aqueous ammonia suspension of dichloro-tin-phthalocyanine for 0.5 to 1.0 hours at a temperature between 40 and 501 C, a product with a chlorine content corresponding to the chlorine hydroxy-tin-phthalocyanine

receive.
Such hydrolysis products of dichloro-tin phthalocyanine can also be used to prevent the flocculation of monochloro-copper phthalocyanine in paints or varnish vehicles.
<I> Example 4: </I> 10 parts of commercially available, chlorine-free copper phthalocyanine and 60 parts of dry common salt are ground together in a steel ball mill for about 40 hours. In another steel ball mill, 1 part of dichloro-tin-phthalocyanine and 6 parts of dry table salt are also ground for 40 hours. The ground mixes are removed from the mills and the salt in each mixture is washed out with water, using 7 to 2 lo acids, e.g. B.
IICl, can be added. It is then filtered off, washed until it is free from acid and the product is dried.
The two powdery products can be mixed in a ratio of 9 parts of the chlorine-free copper phthalocvanine to 1 part of the dichlorotin phthalocyanine, whereby a marketable pigment of improved quality is particularly suitable for use in paints, varnishes, enamel sheets, etc. permanence. against flocculation is obtained. On the other hand, the two powders can also be combined in the specified ratio in a paint vehicle, such as, for example, nitrocellulose, by processing in a paint mill in the usual way.
In this example, the dichlorotin phthalocyanine can be replaced by equal amounts of one of the following 7, inn-phthalocyanine or tin-phthalocyanine derivatives:
a.) Stanno-plithaloeyanine, prepared according to the method of Barreh, Dent and Linstead (Journal of the Chemical Society 1936. Part 2, page 1.732);
</B> b) a modified stannophthaloeyanine, obtained by reacting stannous chloride with metal-free phthaloeyanine according to the method described on pages 1733 and 1734 (Journ. Chem. Soc. 1.936, part 9);
c) dasStanni-Phtlitiloey iinin (Pc = Sn = Pe), obtained by heating equal molecular amounts of dichlorotin with sodium phthalocyanine in alpha-chloronaphthalin on the return tank for about 25 hours, subsequent filtration at 30 C, washing out the filter cake with benzene and drying the product;
d) Bromine - tin - phthaloeyanine, obtained by condensation of stannobromide with phthalonitrile in triethylbenzene at 2l_0 C, filter off and dry. <I> Example 5: </I> 600 parts of dry common salt, 94 parts of commercially available semichloro-copper phthalocyanine and 6 parts of dichloro-tin-phthalocyanine are ground in a steel ball mill until the full pigment strength is developed.
The pigment strength is checked by taking samples from the mill, extracting the salt content of the sample with water and testing the dry pigment residue using the usual methods. As soon as the pigment has reached its full strength, the mill is emptied, the salt is washed out with water, 1 to 2 percent by weight of 1-ICl can be added, filtered off and the filter cake washed out until the acid is removed. The pigment obtained can be used as a press cake or paste or powder.
<I> Example 6: </I> A mixture of 5 parts of finely divided dihydroxy-tin-phthalocyanine (obtained by boiling salt-ground dichloro-tin phthalocyanine in dilute ammonia, filtering off the mixture and washing out the Filter cake with water) and 95 parts of a finely divided chlorine-free copper phthalocyanine (obtained by grinding by means of or by pasting the commercially available chlorine-free copper phthaloc @ anine with acid)
are incorporated in a nitrocellulose vehicle. The paint obtained has excellent resistance to flocculation and crystal formation.
The aforementioned two pigments can also be mixed dry or wet as substances to form marketable products. <I> Example 7: </I> To 90 parts metal-free. Phtlialocyanin, which was finely divided ver by pasting with acid, 10 parts of dichloro-tin-Phthaloeyanins are added (which, as described in Example 4, was ground with salt and washed with water). This pigment mixture is intimately mixed in a paint mill in the presence of a nitrocellulose vehicle. When tested, the paint obtained shows a high level of resistance to flakes and crystal formation.
The two pigments can also be mixed in substance to form a marketable product. <I> Example 8: </I> 500 parts of dry common salt, 96 parts of the crude chlorine-free copper phthalocyanine, washed out with water and dried, and 4 parts of dichloro-tin-phthalocvaxiin crystals (obtained from stannous chloride and phthalonitrile) are ground together and treated further as in Example 1 be written.
The mixed pigment obtained shows no visible tendency to form crystals and is particularly suitable for use in printing inks or printing pastes for textile fabrics.
<I>. </I> Example <I> 9: </I> 2 parts of dihydroxy tin phthalocyanine in the form of a filter cake (as described in Example 3) and 98 parts of copper phthalocyanine, obtained by grinding with salt , as described in Example 4, are intimately mixed in a homogenizer.
The mixture obtained is dispersed, ground and adjusted to a pigment content of 20%. A color paste produced in this way is particularly suitable for textile printing and as a rotogravure printing ink.
<I> Example 10: </I> Production <I> of </I> stabilized, metal-free phthalocyanine pigments .. a) An aqueous filter cake containing approximately 30 percent by weight of finely divided, metal-free phthalocyanine is obtained by pasting of the crude pigment with acid (dissolving the technical pigment in sulfuric acid, precipitating with a large excess of water, washing the acid out of the filter cake) and a subsequent hot extraction with diluted alkali and washing out the filtered residue,
until the alkali is removed. 95 parts (pigment base) of this filter cake and 5 parts (pigment base) dihydroxy tin phthalocyanine in the form of the filter cake (obtained according to Example 3) are treated with a small amount of dispersant and intimately with one another in a Grind the colloid mill. The mixture obtained would not be constant against flocculation after incorporation in a paint or in a varnish, the vehicle of which contains an aromatic solvent.
On the other hand, it is excellently free from all difficulties caused by crystal formation. For this reason, the product is particularly suitable for the production of printing ink compositions for textile fibers in such cases where the printing paste is an emulsion containing water and aromatic solvents with a content of cellulose binders and resins such as, for example, ethyl cellidose, urea -Formaldehyde and Glyptal Resins.
b) The procedure corresponds to that under a) with the difference that only 1.3 parts of dihydroxy-tin-phthaloeyanine are used - # vei @ - and the amount of metal-free plithalocyanine is increased to 98.7 parts (both men based on pigment).
The product obtained shows excellent properties when incorporated into printing pastes.
It was pointed out in Example 10 that textile prints made with stabilized phthalocyanines according to the invention have an increased pigment strength compared to similar prints with unstabilized or usual qualities of phthalocyanine pigments. This result is explained by the fact that the printing pastes improved according to the invention are characterized by their stability to harmful crystallization of the phthalocyanine pigment, even if they are stored for a long time.
By harmful crystallization, we mean the formation of such crystals, which are visible under a good microscope and which cause a loss of color strength in the finished textile print. Metal-free phthaloeyanines, chlorine-free Kiipfer phthalocyanines and some mixtures on the market which contain the latter compound show such crystallization after incorporation in finely divided but not stabilized form in the textile printing pastes mentioned.
Another advantage of the phthalocyanines protected against crystal formation in comparison to the non-stabilized crystallizing phthalocyanines is. in the improved rub fastness of the stabilized pig ments in the finished textile print.
The lack of friction has long been criticized in the aforementioned area.
