Tractor on railroad tracks. The invention relates to a tractor on railways, intended for towing wagons.
The chassis of this tractor is provided with four rollers all motors driven by a transverse shaft, so that the total weight of the machine contributes to its adhesion and, moreover, this chassis has a transverse slide, on which can slide a jack supporting the coupling hook of the wagon to be towed, with the aim of making the tractor support part of the load of the wagon, thus increasing the adhesion of the tractor drive rollers.
If it is deemed useful, the base (the mobile part of the jack can be fitted with a support sole capable of resting on the body or on any suitable support, to allow the balanced tractor to be lifted slightly on the pivot formed. then by this jack, and thus remove the tractor from the track easily or (put it back on the track.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment (the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the tractor.
Fig. 2 is a corresponding elevational view, in which the motor-reduction unit has been removed, and FIG. 3 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 2. In the example shown, the frame is entirely made up of sections assembled by bolts and it consists essentially of a central beam 1., transverse to the track and formed of two cross-braced [J-bars and two side frames 2 in angles, fixed to the ends of this beam 1 and each supporting two fixed axes 3 which receive the rollers 4 each provided with a wheel. chain 5.
One of the side frames 2 is arranged to receive the removable motor-reduction unit which comprises the engine compartment 6 with the driver's seat 7 and the compartment of the. transmission 8 comprising successively a clutch controlled by a pedal 9, a three-speed gearbox :: (without reverse gear), controlled by a lever 10, and a reduction gear. The output shaft ends in a square which mates with the input shaft of a step 11 key change box controlled by a lever 7.2.
This lever actuates a sliding plunger engaging with the trn or]. 'Other conical pinions controlling the ring integral with the transverse output shaft 13 which is arranged inside the beam 1 and rests on two spherical bearings 14; the shaft 13 carries, towards each of its ends, two chain wheels 15 and the four wheels 15 drive four chains 16 which pass over the wheels 5 of the rolling rollers and ensure the driving of these rollers. > _ 'n brake 1.7 acting directly on one of the wheels is controlled by pedal and eccentric.
The central beam is provided with slides 18 on which can move freely a jack 19 equipped, at the upper part of its movable column, with a yoke 20 in which can rest the hook of the towing wagon to be towed. . By maneuvering the jack, it is possible, by lifting its mobile column, to make it bear part of the load of the wagon, so as to give the gaets 4 the grip necessary for towing, which allows the tractor to only be given 'a reduced weight, for example of the order of 400 kg, while giving it the possibility of having sufficient grip for towing loaded wagons. The mounting on slide rails of the jack allows it in curves to always be placed directly above the hook.
A sole 21 is fixed to the lower end of the movable column of the jack, so that by maneuvering the jack to lower the movable column, this sole can be made to rest on a cross member or an appropriate wedge and lift the tractor in balanced position. A single man can then very easily turn the tractor around the fulcrum of the cylinder and can then lower this tractor onto suitable planks or gutters and get it out of the way. We will put it back on track by the reverse process. The swiveling maneuver indicated above also makes it possible in stations to pass the tractor on a transverse track.
The light tractor with four driving rollers is also expected to be applied to various transport or handling of materials, even within a factory, as well as to the transport of goods and personnel on normal or narrow gauge. To allow the use of the tractor for these applications, the ram may be provided so as to be replaceable by a swivel platform. For example, to handle sections of all kinds or rails, the tractor will be coupled with an ordinary carrier truck and the two vehicles will be fitted with swivel platforms; the device will allow a very low loading and a very easy handling.
In the case of application to the transport of goods or personnel, the motor-transmission unit may include, instead of the reduction gear providing a report. constant speed, a reduction relay with two speed ratios giving, at will, under the action of an additional control, two different speeds to polish each speed of the gearbox.
With the engine running at its normal speed of 1800 rpm, the tractor for towing wagons can be driven, in both directions, at three speeds ranging between 1 and G km per hour, while the tractor suitable for transporting equipment, with the motor unit fitted with a relay, can be driven, also in both directions, to. six speeds ranging from 3 to 20 km per hour.
The tractor described is designed so as to have the following advantages: 1 Simplicity of construction and robustness with reduced weight and purchase price. mo dic.
2 Low consumption, the drive being ensured by a motor of moderate power.
3 Reduced maintenance costs.
4 Ease of driving, allowing it to be entrusted to a single man without any special knowledge after a few hours of training.
5 Possibility of being left the track by one man and being put back on the a. the same way.
This tractor is likely to render very great services, in particular for the service of particular branch lines, the importance of which does not justify the purchase of the usual tractors and where, however, the manual maneuvering of the wagons entails delays and expenditure of staff too high.
