Pneumatic control for electrical resistance welding machines. In resistance welding machines, in particular special point and seam welding machines, compressed air is known to be used to generate the elec trode pressure by the movable electrode is actuated via a pressure air cylinder. The necessary amount of compressed air is then mostly taken from an existing compressed air network, which has a greater pressure than is necessary for generating the electrode pressure. As a result, the air pressure must be reduced, which until now always by means of a pressure reducing valve. adjustable opening spring has been achieved. However, such reducing valves have the disadvantage that their flow cross-section changes ver as the air flows through.
The smaller the pressure difference between the compression spring on the reducing valve and the desired reduced pressure in the. The smaller the available flow cross-section in the valve, so that there is a considerable delay until the desired pressure has been set in the compressed air cylinder. As can be seen from curve A of FIG. 1, where the pressure is plotted as the ordinate and the time as the abscissa, the pressure rises asymptotically as a result of this change in the flow cross-section, so that the welding process can only take place with a time delay. This disadvantage is particularly noticeable when the electrode pressure has to be changed during welding, specifically according to a specific welding program.
Around. To achieve the required rapid increase in pressure in the pressure cylinder, the pneumatic control must therefore be designed in such a way that the pressure-time curve for the reducing valve runs as far as possible according to curve B shown in FIG.
In addition to the need to design the control in such a way that the compressed air cylinder for generating the electrode pressure is set to a prescribed one in the shortest possible time. Pressure can be filled, the condition must also be met that the welding current is switched on or the start. of a welding program is made dependent on reaching the final pressure in the compressed air cylinder.
The purpose of the present invention is now to create a pneumatic control for electrical resistance welding machines with a pneumatic cylinder causing the variable pressure of the electrodes, which allows the aforementioned conditions to be met with the simplest possible means.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that the air supply to the cylinder takes place via a servo-reducing valve, in which the difference in forces determining the passage opening is determined by the difference between the pressure of the outgoing air and that of a certain amount of air enclosed in the control system, whose print yours. Control pressure is generated. becomes. With reference to the drawing, a Ausfüh approximately example of the invention will be explained in more detail, namely a control for spot welding machines is shown in Fig. 2 in a schematic manner.
It means 1 the movable upper electrode of the welding machine and 2 the piston of a compressed air cylinder 3, which is rigidly connected to the electrode for the purpose of actuating the electrode and for generating the electrode pressure. For the two-sided application of the piston 2, the upper and lower ends of the cylinder 3 are connected to the servo reducing valve 6 via an electropneumatic valve 4 and 5, respectively.
This reducing valve reduces the air pressure to the desired value and basically differs from the usual reducing valves, insofar as the opening spring is replaced by a space 7 filled with compressed air, creating a pressure-time curve according to curve C of FIG he is enough. The pressure in space 7 is set by means of the manometer 8 and an ordinary, spring-loaded reducing valve 9 with any small passage cross-section to the value required for actuating the piston 2 or for generating the desired electrode pressure. This pressure exerts a certain force on an inlet valve 6a via a membrane 20, which is connected to the higher network pressure through line 21.
The incoming compressed air relaxes immediately, but fills the space 6b and the spaces connected to it until the force exerted on the underside of the membrane 20 by the resulting compressed air pressure is equal to or greater than the force that opens the valve 6a, in in which case the valve is closed by a small spring force and the further flow of compressed air is prevented.
The opening cross-section of the valve Ecu can be understood as a cylinder ring of a certain diameter and height, which depends on the position of the membrane. Apart from the here negligible influence of the spring of the valve 6a, "the diaphragm 20 always assumes that position in which the specific pressures above and below the diaphragm are equal. If the pressure below the diaphragm for any reason falls significantly below the closing pressure, the valve will open up to a stop "maimal, at the same time the pressure in space 7 will decrease somewhat because of the increase in volume.
Up to this reduced pressure, the compressed air will be able to flow in from the line 21 through the full valve opening in the space 6b. Only from this closing pressure on will the valve opening be reduced in reciprocal proportion to the difference between the closing and opening pressure. The ratio between the closing and opening pressure can be approximated to one in the device described above, by increasing the volume 7 accordingly, and is independent of the reduced pressure. A check valve 10 is also provided between the reducing valve 9 and the pressure chamber, while 11 is a discharge valve in order to be able to reduce the pressure as desired.
The space above the piston 2 of the compressed air cylinder 3 is in connection with a differential pressure contactor 12 which is used to measure the pressure in the cylinder 3, the control pressure of the servo reducing valve 6 being used as a reference pressure; for this purpose the space 7 of the valve 6 is connected to the contactor 12 via the line 13. This contactor is used to close or interrupt the welding circuit 14 and the excitation circuit of the valve 5, this latter circuit also containing a delay device 15. The lower side of the piston 2 is connected to a simple pressure contactor 16, the contact of which is also in the welding circuit 14.
The operation of the control is now more as follows: First, the air pressure in space 7 of the servo reducing valve 6 and in the connecting line 13 to the United. Differential pressure contactor 12 by means of the 31anoineter 8 and the valves 9, 10 is set to the value that is required in the compressed air cylinder 3 in order to generate the electrode pressure desired during welding. Through the unexcited valve 5, compressed air from the servo-reducing valve 6 passes under the piston 2 and lifts it into the uppermost end position (see FIG. 2).
When the pedal of the welding machine is operated, the excitation circuit of the valve 4-ge is closed - and the latter now allows the compressed air, which has been reduced to the prescribed pressure value, to reach the upper side of the piston. The piston 2 moves downwards, whereby the still unexcited three-way outlet valve 5 allows a certain backflow of the air located under the piston, but hinders this backflow to such an extent that the air below the piston is compressed to a value higher than the original value and thus causes a braking from the piston movement.
As soon as the air pressure on the upper side of the piston 2 has reached its maximum value, the latter is actuated by comparison with the invariable control pressure in the differential pressure contactor and the contacts 17 and 18 are closed. The welding circuit 7 4 can not yet be closed, however, since the contacts 19 actuated by the pressure contactor 7 6 are still open. By closing the contacts 18, however, the valve 5 is actuated via the delay device and the air below the piston 2 can pass through this valve into the open. As soon as the overpressure has disappeared underneath the piston 2, who now through the simple pressure contactor 16, the contacts 19 are closed and the welding current is switched on.
It is only switched on when the electrode pressure has reached its full value.
The differential pressure contactor 12 is set so that it responds just below the target pressure and thus no delay occurs. If for any reason the fresh pressure in the reducing valve 6 falls below the control pressure, the contactor 12 cannot respond because the control pressure remains at the previously set level. An inadmissible increase in the pressure in the servo reducing valve is prevented by a safety discharge device (not shown in the figure) on the valve.
The time delay that is necessary when actuating the valve 5 in order to achieve the impact damping described can also take place in other ways than as a function of the pressure above the piston 2. For example, it is possible to make the closing of the excitation circuit of the valve 5 as a direct function of the movement of the piston 2. For this purpose, a contact is attached to the piston rod which, when the piston has reached a certain lower position, closes the excitation circuit of the valve 5.
The control described can also be used for printing program controls. In this case, the two-sided loading of the piston in the compressed air cylinder must take place via a separate servo-reducing valve, as can be seen from FIGS. 3 and 4, in order to generate the various electrode pressures that occur in such program controls. The control pressure for each servo-reducing valve is set in the manner already described by means of an ordinary, spring-loaded reducing valve (9).
To prevent the pressure on the lower side of the piston from exceeding the pressure on the upper side, either the spring-loaded reducing valve for the lower-side servo reducing valve is connected downstream of the other spring-loaded valve (Fig. 3), or the lower-side servo reducing valve itself is connected after the upper-side servo valve (Fig. 4).
With the control according to the invention, a very high quality of the weld is achieved, since it is known that this depends on the precise compliance with the respective required electrode pressure. Furthermore, the described shock absorption means that the electrodes and the other moving parts are protected as much as possible.
