Optical contact device. The present invention relates to an optical contact device consisting of a shell which is intended to be applied between the eyelids and the eye and which comprises a lenticular part having optical surfaces capable of providing a correction for ocular ametropia.
In known devices, the optical surfaces are spherical and undeformable. Now, a contact device presenting. such optical surfaces is marred by a defect denoted by the term: aberration of sphericity, the importance of which increases due to the square of the opening of the optical system formed by the assembly: optical contact device and garlic.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback. For this purpose, in the optical contact device according to the invention, said lenticular part is. shaped so as to form an aplanatic optical system with the eye when the device is in place.
In a particular embodiment of the object of the invention, one of the aforesaid on optical faces is. aspherical.
In another particular embodiment, the optical surfaces are set in a spherical shape with continuity solutions formed by removal of substance from the shell and allowing the optical surfaces to deform when in place on the shell. eye and conform to the aspherical shape of the cornea. According to another advantageous embodiment, the optical surfaces are established in spherical shapes with solutions of continuity, without removing substance from the shell, allowing the optical surfaces to deform when they are in place on the eye. and to follow the aspherical shape of the cornea.
The following description describes, by way of nonlimiting example, some embodiments of the object of the invention. When one of the optical surfaces is constructed aspherical, a surface of revolution is preferably chosen. the generator is either a Descartes oval (see below), or an ellipse.
Indeed, the refractive index of the ocular medium can at first approximation be considered to be equal to 1.33 and the index of the optical contact device in the presence of 1 '# i1 being close to 1.523, rays emanating from it. of the retinal macula would form, after their passage through the lens, a similar divergent bundle coming from a point Al located behind the retina and would refract as it passed. in the middle of the optical contact device in a more open conical beam, centered on a point AZ located in front of Al, these two points being located on the axis of revolution of the surface.
For this last beam to be anastigmatic, it is necessary that the generatrix of the surface of revolution separating the two midpoints, therefore the posterior surface of the optical contact device, respects the condition put in the form of an equation: N1. <I> IA, </I> - NZ. <I> <U> IA. </U> </I> = constant, where Nl is the refractive index of the ocular medium, NJ is the index of refraction of the contact optical device, with NZ greater than Ni.
I is any point of the generator. In bipolar coordinates, the curves which satisfy this equation belong to a family of so-called oval curves of maps which are generally of the fourth degree and whose shape is variable according to the value of the constant. The shape of the cornea can be made to match the internal surface of the optical contact device while respecting the conditions of anastigmatism during the passage of light through this surface.
So that the conical beam coming from the som met A, leaves the optical contact device by its anterior face, so that the light rays are, in the air, parallel to. the axis of the optical system, the surface of revolution separating the two media must have a generatrix which satisfies the 1V # condition. AZI '<I> - </I> N3 <I>. </I> I'DI <I> = o </I> where NZ is the refractive index of the optical contact device, N3 is the index refraction of air equal to 1, I 'any point of the generator,
There will be a ray emerging parallel to the axis of revolution of the surface, and the intersection of this ray with the directrix of the generator, this directrix being a line perpendicular to the axis of revolution.
The preceding equation can be written:
EMI0002.0022
It represents a conic with focus A @ and eccentricity
EMI0002.0025
e being less than 1, the generator is an ellipse, and the anterior surface of the optical contact device is an ellipsoid of revolution.
The condition of anastigmatism to be observed in the event that the optical contact device should cause the emerging rays to converge at a point A3 of the axis, that is to say to allow the vision of near objects, would be that the generator satisfies. the equation: N .. A, 1 '+ <B> <I> NF A, </I> </B> = constant, which is also the equation of a curve of the family of Descartes ovals.
In practice, aspherical surfaces are to be reduced to a minimum given the surfacing difficulties they present. For this purpose, one of the surfaces of the optical contact device is preferably kept spherical, and the aspherical shape of the other surface is corrected so that it deviates slightly from the surfaces described above. above, by respecting the conditions of anastigmatism of the entire optical system, consisting of 1 '# i1 and the optical contact device.
The solutions of continuity without removal of substance are provided in the optical contact device in order to give it a flexibility such that it can adapt to the shape of the eyeball and in particular to that of the cornea. of 1 '# i1. Continuity solutions with substance removal are also practiced for this purpose. From both of these devices cited by way of nonlimiting example results the advantage that the optical contact device can adapt to its own. shape to that of the eyeball which, under the action of muscular tensions, deforms slightly when the gaze moves.
The fact of providing solutions of continuity cutting, the aforesaid optical contact device, radially for example, leads to possibilities of expansion in the direction perpendicular to the sections made. This results in better tolerance of the optical contact device.
This tolerance is also increased owing to the fact that the underlying liquid can be renewed by filtering through the continuity solutions. The latter can in particular consist of breaks without removal of substance made, for example, in the radial direction of the optical contact devices. They can be achieved by bending or straightening a sector of the optical device beyond its resistance capacities. By choosing the pressure points and values, it is easy to manage and limit the safe cases at will.
This way of doing can be applied either to the peripheral part or to the. lens of the optical contact device, or to both. It does not alter its optical properties.
In other embodiments, the solution of continuity is achieved by the ablation of a certain quantity of substance from the optical contact device, either in the whole of its thickness, or. in one part only. of the latter, for example by cutting saw cuts. the. shell of the device, by perforations or fenestrations of all kinds, in particular circular, these solutions of continuity being provided either. in the lenticular part of the device, either in its peripheral part, or even in these two parts.
The solutions of continuity also make it possible to increase the tolerance of the device, both in the case of spherical optical surfaces and in that of aspherical surfaces.
These solutions of continuity could be obtained not by treating the manufactured shell, but during the manufacture thereof, such as, for example, during a molding operation.
The contact device referred to above can be made of various transparent materials, for example organic or inorganic glass or plastic.
