Description

Process for embossing smooth leather cloths. The invention relates to a method for smooth leather cloths, d. H. with a smooth layer, e.g. B. a layer of varnish to see on pulled fabric with a grain.

Until now, the desired grain was stabbed in embossing rollers and then embossed into the smooth leather cloth. In the method according to the invention, a fabric with a desired grain corresponding to the binding is used as an embossing agent. Depending on the desired grain, a simple or complicated jacquard fabric can be used, which is usefully at least as wide and as long as the piece of leather cloth to be provided with a certain grain.

The transfer of the relief of the fabric to the smooth leather cloth takes place in the following operation: The smooth leather cloth is passed through a calender together with the fabric, which has a binding that corresponds to the desired grain and serves as a follower and embossing means, whereby the pressure of the calender rollers the relief of the fabric is embossed into the smooth leather cloth. The permanence of the grain can be increased by lightly varnishing the leather cloth afterwards.

The great advantage of the invention is that the creation, respectively. Weaving the described embossing blankets is much cheaper than pricking embossing rollers. The above-described operation can be carried out by means of a calendar, which can also be used for other purposes. Replacing an embossing blanket also requires less time than replacing the embossing rollers of an embossing calender.
