B.: a) 1. Kaltvorpressen, 2. Sintern, 3. Warmnachpremen. b) 1. Kaltvorpressen, 2.
EMI0002.0062
Streckgrenze <SEP> 25-28 <SEP> kg/mm=
<tb> Zugfestigkeit <SEP> 30-33 <SEP> kg/mm'
<tb> Dehnung <SEP> (d <SEP> 10) <SEP> 6-8
Die Warmdauerstandfestigkeit dieser Kör per ist unvergleichlich besser als diejenige der bekannten Aluminiumlegierungen. Die Deh nungsgeschwindigkeit beträgt z. B. bei 250 C zwischen der 25. und der 35. Belastungs- stunde 0,62X10-3%/h unter einer Belastung von 9 kg/mm';
Process for the production of light metal bodies. According to a previously announced process for the production of light metal bodies with a specific weight of no more than 5, preferably no more than 3, a tensile strength of at least 30 kg / mm \ and a Brinell hardness of at least 80 kg / mm ', even in the annealed state, light metal powder becomes light metal powder of such a fineness that at least 50 percent by weight of the powder is distributed at least one dimension less than 2 µ, pressed together and sintered. The method can be carried out in various ways, e.g.
E.g .: a) 1. cold pre-pressing, 2. sintering, 3. hot post-molding. b) 1. Cold pre-pressing, 2. Hot post-pressing and sintering. c) hot pressing and sintering.
The surprising fact that pure aluminum powder can provide metal bodies of high tensile strength and hardness is probably due to the simultaneous influence of the small particle size and the oxide film covering the powder. The essentially fat-free aluminum powder, which is commercially available and is known to have flake form, is usually already sufficiently oxidized without further action and also sufficiently fine to be useful for performing the process.
An increase in the oxide content of the aluminum powder causes an increase in the hardness of the manufactured objects, where the yield point, tensile strength and elongation decrease. Tests have shown that practically oxide-free aluminum powder or aluminum powder that contains only a few percent oxide, is unusable for the execution of the process, since you then do not get Leichtmetallkör with the specified tensile strength and Brinell hardness. It goes without saying that tensile strength and hardness do not increase abruptly as the oxide content increases.
The protection claimed extends to all light metal bodies produced using the process as soon as the tensile strength is at least 30 kg / mm 'and the Brinell hardness is at least 80 kg / mm' even in the annealed condition with a specific weight of 5 and below. Since the particle size also plays a role, the minimum content of oxide required for this cannot be given. The test is decisive for determining the usability.
In Swiss patent no. 250118 it is stated that the most favorable temperature for sintering is 550-600 C. Sintering is mandatory there in any case. Extensive tests have now led to the surprising result that by cold pressing and subsequent hot forming of superficially oxidized light metal powder of such a fineness that at least 50 percent by weight of the powder is distributed at least one dimension is less than 2 u, preferably at temperatures of over 350, which do not need to exceed 500,
Light metal body with a tensile strength of over 25, preferably of at least 30 kg / mm 'at least in one direction, and with a Brinell hardness of at least 75 kg / mm' even in the annealed state, without sintering and special hot pressing being necessary .
Hot pressing for the compression of the light metal body, as specified in Swiss Patent No. 250118, must not be confused with hot forming. Hot pressing is when the powder particles are simply pressed against one another without any actual flow process.
which usually takes place in a hollow cylinder, while with hot forming (extrusion, hot pressing in the die and the like), flow, that is, the powder particles slide on one another, takes place. Hot forming is therefore to be understood as hot pressing, which is associated with kneading. No minimum value can be given for the degree of deformation during this kneading; Here too, the attempt is decisive.
It has been shown that a degree of deformation of over 50% is desirable. When extruding z. B. it will be ensured that the cross section reduction <B> 50% </B> preferably <B> 70% </B> exceeds.
The fact that you can switch from cold pre-pressing to hot forming without any intermediate work steps saves time and uses less energy, especially because you can work at lower temperatures to achieve equivalent results.
Theoretically, one could do without cold pre-pressing, but leaving this work process away would be associated with technical difficulties that would make any time gain illusory from an economic point of view.
Example Fat-free pure aluminum powder from the trade, the lamellar particles of which had a thickness of less than 1 u, was cold-pressed into a hollow cylinder of 100 mm inside diameter under a pressure of 5 t / em @ to form a bolt 200 mm in height. The bolt obtained was then heated to 500 and pressed in an extruder through a die with a diameter of 50 mm. The recipient was also warmed to about 500 ° C.
The 50 mm thick rod obtained showed the following properties:
EMI0002.0062
Yield strength <SEP> 25-28 <SEP> kg / mm =
<tb> tensile strength <SEP> 30-33 <SEP> kg / mm '
<tb> elongation <SEP> (d <SEP> 10) <SEP> 6-8
<tb> Brinell hardness <SEP> 80-95 <SEP> kg / mm = It should also be mentioned that the light metal bodies according to the invention, if they are made from pure aluminum powder, have a relatively high electrical and thermal conductivity compared to aluminum alloys with similar strength - have capabilities at room temperatures.
In addition, the 'thermal' expansion coefficient is at the lower limit of the values applicable to aluminum - piston - alloys.
A further advantage is that the light metal bodies according to the invention are stable in space, that is to say that they do not suffer any permanent increase in volume due to heating.
The creep strength of this body is incomparably better than that of the known aluminum alloys. The expansion speed is z. B. at 250 C between the 25th and the 35th hour of exposure 0.62X10-3% / h under a load of 9 kg / mm ';
Under the same conditions, a quenched and tempered Al-Cu-Mg alloy results in a strain rate of 295X10-3% / h, i.e. around five hundred times as much.
If the bodies are only made of pure aluminum powder, they have the same corrosion resistance in the salt spray bath as pure aluminum. By adding certain foreign metal powders to aluminum powder or by using pulverized aluminum alloys, light metal bodies can be kept according to the process according to the invention, which can be hardened (tempered) by heat treatment (annealing, quenching and, if necessary, artificial aging), with the yield point being the Tensile strenght. and the Brinell hardness values can be achieved.
which exceed those of the bodies made of pure aluminum powder.
The simultaneous use of powders of different compositions enables the production of bodies with unevenly distributed properties, which is often desirable for pistons for internal combustion engines, for example, since the piston crown is subjected to different stresses than the piston skirt.
An increase in the oxide content of the light metal powder above the optimum causes an increase in hardness, whereas the yield point and tensile strength decrease. It is easy to use light metal powders to produce various oxydge content compacts which, for. B. have a harder surface and a more tensile core. You can also z. B. Use powder with a uniform oxide content and enrich the pre-pressed body with oxide in the surface area by suitable treatment.
The light metal powder can be used dry. But it can also be advantageous to use it with a liquid substance, e.g. B. with water to stir and feed in doughy form of the press. It is usually not necessary to carry out the processing in a special atmosphere, but the use of such may be the appropriate under circumstances, z. B. if you want to give the surface area of the body modified properties. To prevent further oxidation; it can be 2: wake-up, the body under a protective atmosphere, z. B. of hydrogen or nitrogen to produce, in particular to deform hot.
It is of course possible to carry out the production of the light metal body in whole or in part under negative pressure or overpressure.
The metal bodies produced by the method according to the invention are suitable, for. B. excellent for those purposes where high strengths are required and high temperatures prevail, z. B. for pistons of internal combustion engines, piston rings, guide vanes of steam and gas turbines, parts of nozzle drive units.
