Description
Process for the preparation of oil solutions of styrene oxide salts. Strychnine oxide has a very favorable circulatory effect, with a major advantage being that strychnine oxide is about 10 times less toxic than crrychnine. There. It is now known that such analeptic preparations should have the longest possible duration of action.
it seemed advantageous to prepare oily solutions of strychnine oxide. This initially failed because strychnine oxide is very sparingly soluble in oils.
It has now been found that stable, oily solutions can be obtained by reacting strychnine oxide with a higher fatty acid and dissolving the resulting salt in a fatty oil. It has been found to be useful to use excess fatty acids. It can be assumed that this pushes back the balance of dissociation in favor of the undissociated, fatty acid salt, which is more soluble in fatty oils than the free base. This was all the more surprising since in general the salts of bases are even more difficult to dissolve in oils than the free bases themselves.
Examples: 1 .. 2 g of strychnine oxide are mixed with 6 g of oleic acid and 2 cm 'of pure alcohol and the mixture is melted while being heated. The clear melt is dissolved in 200 cms of sesame oil and the alcohol is removed in vacuo with heating.
2. 0.8 g of strychnine oxide are mixed with 4 g of stearic acid and 1 cm 'of pure alcohol and the mixture is melted while being heated. The clear melt is dissolved in 100 cm 'olive oil and the alcohol is removed in vacuo with heating.
Ä. 2 g of strychnine oxide are ver sets with 6 g of linoleic acid and 2 cm 'of pure alcohol and the mixture is melted while being heated. The clear melt is dissolved in 100 cm wheat germ oil and the alcohol is removed in a vacuum with heating.
4. 4 g of strychnine oxide are dissolved in 20 g of oleic acid while warming and diluted with 1.00 cm '' wheat germ oil.
