Description
A method of manufacturing an abrasive material and an abrasive material obtained by this method. The present invention comprises a process for producing an abrasive material and an abrasive material obtained by this process and intended to advantageously replace steel wool, steel wool and metallic abrasives.
It is known that if steel wool and steel wool. are excellent abrasives suitable for scraping and polishing, they have drawbacks including crumbling and having points that can injure hands.
These drawbacks are eliminated by the abrasive material that the present invention comprises by the fact that it consists of a metal strip having, in cross section, a generally rectangular section and in longitudinal section a corrugated shape. The manufacturing process that the invention also comprises consists in rolling a corrugated wire, in order to obtain a metallic tape having corrugations in a longitudinal plane perpendicular to its surface. This tape can be manufactured in various widths and can be easily worked, for example weaving or knitting, which makes it possible to make articles of various shapes, such as sponges, 'sponges, tombs, sausages, pads, sleeves, etc. .
You can also simply fold the corrugated tape or wind it to form a ball and use it in this form, possibly after compression. Due to its corrugations, the edges of the tape have the desired stiffness to exert a very effective abrasive action. The efficiency can be further increased when, before being worked or folded, the corrugated tape is subjected to a knurling which imbues therein very closely spaced small corrugations, as shown, by way of example, at a high scale. enlarged on the accompanying drawing. These small undulations, forming as many asperities a along the edges b of the larger corrugations, accentuate the amount of abrasive action and further improve efficiency scraping.
Regardless of the form: in which the corrugated tape is used as an abrasive, it is possible to use a continuous tape whose ends are folded back inside the article, so that there is no sharp protrusion likely to injure the user's hands.
The abrasive material according to the invention does not retain dirt and can be easily rinsed off.
