Device for controlling the position of a lighting dynamo for cycles. There are already devices making it possible, using a lever, to control the. position of a light dynamo for cycles in relation to the drive wheel. We know, in fact, that the activation and deactivation of this dynamo generator is obtained by a simple tilting of the latter along an axis parallel to the plane of rotation of the wheel, so as to apply a roller on the tire or on the contrary to move away from it.
In general, a spring is provided to keep the roller in contact with the tire, so that it is necessary to provide a lock to oppose the action of this spring and to keep the roller away from the tire and dynamo in rest position.
This type of device is not very appreciated by users, because the lever does not, by its operation, allow the activation and deactivation of the lighting dynamo, but only the activation. ser vice. The decommissioning must indeed be carried out by acting directly on the dy namo, which is impractical.
There are also control devices comprising a lever articulated on the frame of the dynamo. The latter is rotated freely on an axis parallel to the plane of rotation of the cycle wheel. The lever acts against the action of a spring on a pin integral with the axis to make the dynamo oscillate. This control device is not, however, very popular, because all its parts are exposed to the sludge projected by the cycle wheel.
The present invention relates to a control device for the. position of a lighting dynamo for cycles, comprising an oscillating axis, subjected to the action of a torsion sort slipped on it, this axis being housed in a fixed support comprising two bearings st provided with a lever control acting on a pin integral with said oscillating axis.
This device differs from known devices and tends to to eliminate the drawbacks mentioned by the fact that said operating lever is pivoted on said pin which passes through the wall of the support by a non-circular opening, at least one actuating member rigidly fixed to said lever and cooperating with a part of the periphery of said opening causing, during an angular displacement of the control lever, the angular displacement of the oscillating axis in its bearings.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically and by way of example one embodiment of the control device.
Fig. 1 is an overall view showing the lighting dynamo mounted on its flange via a support.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view along the line II-II of FIG. 1, the lever being in one of its positions.
Fig. d is a sectional view similar to that of FIG. 2, the control lever being in another position. Fig. 4 is a view of the interior of the support, its closure cover being removed.
Fig. 5 is a partial sectional view along the line V-V of FIG. 2.
Figs. 6 and 7 are partial front views of the support showing a detail on a larger scale.
In the device shown as in other known devices, the lighting dynamo 1 carries an axis 3 oscillating in bearings 4 arranged in a support 5. The latter is fixed rigidly to the end of a flange 6 tightly tightened on part of frame 7 of the cycle. The oscillating axis 3 is subjected to the action of a spring 8, slid on it, having two rolled parts, connected by a middle part 11. This spring is supported by its two ends 9 on parts 10 of the support. 5, while its median part 11 acts on a pin U fixed rigidly on the oscillating axis 3. This pin 12 is perpendicular to the axis of rotation 27 of the lighting dynamo.
The position of this pin 12 with respect to the axis 3 is fixed by a shoulder 28 and a screw 29.
The device shown comprises, in addition to these known elements, an operating lever 13 pivoted on an extension of said pin 12 which passes through the wall 14 of the support 5 by a non-circular opening 15.
Two actuators 16 integral with the actuator 13 and formed by tabs, curved square along the pin 12, cooperate with the walls of the opening 15 with which they are held in contact. by the action of the spring 8. This opening 15 has a wall 17 in the form of a half-cylinder, the radius of which is greater than that of the cylinder generated by the actuators 16 around the axis of the pin 12. The outer surfaces of the actuating members 16 are arranged sy metrically around the axis of the pin 12. These actuating members have lateral sides 20 in the form of a half-cylinder connected by a surface 31 formed by a part of cylinder. The width a of the actuating members 16 is at least equal to the diameter of the pin 12.
Opposite this half-cylinder-shaped wall 17, the opening 15 comprises a flat wall 18 located at a distance from the center of the half-cylinder formed by the wall 17, greater than the radius of the latter (see fig. 6). This flat wall 18 is connected to the half-cylinder by curved walls 19 and arranged so as to allow the rotation of the members 16 around the pin 12 (see FIG. 7). The actuating organs 16 are extended by a part 26, the outer surface of which is flat.
The operation of the control device described above is as follows: When the lighting dynamo 1 is in the rest position (fig. 2 and 6), that is to say out of service, one of the actuating members 16 is in contact with the flat wall 18 of the opening 15, while the part 26 extending the other actuating member is engaged with the middle part II of the spring 8. The latter tends to applying the first actuator 16 against the flat wall 18.
The middle part 11 being rectilinear and. cooperating with a flat surface. it is clear that the angular position of the operating member 13 is exactly defined by the action of the spring 8. For this position of the actuating members 16 with respect to the flat wall 18, the pin 12 is attached. found in the position shown in fig. 2.
When the user wishes to put the dynamo into service, it suffices for him to move the operating member 13 by approximately 90, so that the actuating members 16 are hole vent, relative to the flat wall 18, in the, position shown in fig. 7. For this position of the actuating members, the pin 12 is in the position shown in FIG. 3. We. sees without other that the axis 3 has made an angular displacement in the direction of clockwise.
This angular displacement, effected under the influence of the spring 8, causes the inclination of the lighting dynamic whose drive roller then comes into contact with the tire. In fig. 3 and 7, the pin occupies its extreme position for which the side edges 20 of the two actuating members 16 are in contact with the flat surface 18, but it is obvious that in practice this position is never but achieved since the inclination of the dy namo is limited by the entry of its roller 32 into contact with the tire.
The angular position of the actuator member 13 is here also exactly defined by the middle part 11 of the spring 8 which tends to come into contact, simultaneously with the two lateral edges 20 of the actuator members 16.
To put the lighting dynamo back out of service, it suffices to move the gear unit again by 90, in order to bring the actuating members 16 into the position shown in FIG. 6. During this displacement, the actuating members 16 cooperating with the wall 18 cause an angular displacement of the axis 3 in an anti-clockwise direction and against the action of the spring b.
The spring 8 therefore has two actions which are very distinct from one another: a) oscillate the pin 3 in its bearings and apply the roller 32 to the tire; b) define the positions of the actuator 13 corresponding to the on and off positions of the dynamo.
The actuator 13 also carries a stop 21, the length of which is shorter than that of the actuators 16, so that when the actuator is in the position shown in Figs. 5 and 6, it cooperates with one of the walls 19 to limit the axial displacement of the axis 3 and prevent its free end from escaping its bearing 4. On the other hand, this stop is too short to come into conflict with the wall 18 which is set back with respect to the walls 19, the opening 15 being made in a cylindrical part of the support.
As shown in the drawing (Figs. 2 and 4), the ends 9 of the spring 8 each bear against a stop 10 integral with the side walls of the support. A cover 22 closing the rear part thereof, prevents any movement of these ends 9, so that they cannot escape the stops 10.
The position of the actuator is chosen so that it can occupy three different positions located at 90 from each other. For one of these positions (fig. 7) the dynamo is in service, for the second (fig. 6) the. dynamo is out of service, and for the. third (position symmetrical to that shown in fig. 7) the dy namo is in service.
The fourth position - symmetrical to that shown in fi-. 6 - cannot be reached, because the actuator comes into conflict with the body of the dynamo.
From an examination of the appended drawing and of the foregoing, it can easily be seen that this device, comprising a very small number of parts, is extremely easy to assemble: and fast and can be manufactured at low prices. very low cost.
In addition, the same standard parts, with the exception of the operating unit 13, can be used for mounting the dynamo on the left or on the right of the cycle, which is a great advantage from the point of view. manufacturing, because some countries prefer to mount the lighting dy namo to the left of the cycle, others, on the other hand, prefer it to mount to the right (lu cycle.
