Kühlluftregeleinrichtung an Brennkraftmaschinen.
Cooling air control device on internal combustion engines. The invention relates to a cooling air control device on racing machines, which is provided with a radiator shutter arranged in front of the air inlet.
An embodiment of cooling air regulating devices on air-cooled internal combustion engines is known, in which the cooling air in the pressure connection of the fan is throttled according to the outlet temperature of the exhaust air at the cylinders. This throttling is done by a thermostat behind the cylinders, which is rigidly connected by a linkage to an air flap arranged in the blower pressure connection.
If the warm internal combustion engine is switched off in this embodiment, it cools down quickly because cold air flows to the cylinders until the thermostat located in a housing behind the cylinders has cooled down. However, cooling down in cold weather can cause problems.
Another disadvantage of this design is that if the control device does not work, for example due to jamming of the air flap, dust or rust on the linkage or for any other reason, the internal combustion engine is easily overheated and damaged.
According to the invention, these disadvantages should be eliminated in that the air flaps of the radiator louvre are set up for direct actuation by the sucked in air, but the air flap position is limited by a thermoregulator under the influence of the exhaust air.
As a thermal controller, a bimetal spring can be arranged in the air discharge box, which is connected to a locking lever via a wire pull, so that it gradually releases the air flaps held in the closed position when the bimetal spring is cold when the bimetal spring is heated. The tensile force of the cold bimetallic spring on the locking lever is preferably greater than the pressure of the intake air transmitted to the locking lever on the air flaps.
It is also advantageous if the axes of rotation of the air flaps are off-center, so that when the fan is running, the flaps are opened by the pressure of the intake air, but close automatically when the fan is switched off.
In the case of a device with a bimetal spring and wire pull, the internal combustion engine cannot suffer any damage from overheating if the device does not function, since the bimetal spring does not rigidly control the flaps, but only limits their actuation. The machine is not damaged even if the wire tension breaks, since the air flaps then give way freely to the pressure of the intake air. It only removes the limitation of their movement.
The control device only needs to have a few friction surfaces and can be largely dust and rust proof.
In. the drawing shows an example of an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention. 1 shows a schematic side view of the device on an air-cooled internal combustion engine, wherein. individual parts of the same are shown in section, and FIG. 2 is a front view of the device.
The internal combustion engine 1 has a Ge blower 2 with housing 3, horizontally angeord designated cylinders 4, 4 ', air guide plates 5 and 6 air discharge boxes. In Fig. 1 only the front air discharge box belonging to the cylinders 4, 4 'can be seen.
On the other side of the crankshaft, which is arranged in the middle, there are two more cylinders and another air outlet box.
A radiator shutter 8, which closes the air inlet opening and is known from water-cooled internal combustion engines, is expediently removably attached to the intake connector 7 of the fan housing. You be sitting a frame 9, the holes for receiving the horizontally arranged axes of rotation 10 of the air flaps 11 has.
The axes of rotation 10 are preferably made of steel wire and each of them has a crank 12 at one of their ends which engage in correspondingly provided bores of a vertically arranged rod 13. At the lower end of the rod 13, a stop 14 is arranged. The axes of rotation 10 are eccentric with respect to the width of the air flaps 11, so that when the fan is running, the air flaps are opened by the pressure of the intake air while the rod 13 is raised at the same time.
If the fan is switched off, the air flaps close automatically.
To regulate the movement of the air flaps, respectively. to limit, a double-armed locking lever 15 is rotatably attached to the frame 9. One arm of the locking fog rests on the stop 14 of the rod 18, while the other arm is connected to the free end of a spiral bimetallic spring 17 by means of a wire pull 16. The other end of the bimetallic spring is fastened in a fixed axle 18 which is accommodated in the air discharge box 6.
The bimetallic spring is arranged in the air discharge box in such a way that when it is heated by the hot air coming from the cylinders, the end connected to the wire pull moves away from the fixed axis 18 and thus moves the locking lever 15 in a clockwise direction. The wire pull is guided accordingly on the frame of the radiator shutter and on the air outlet box.
To avoid permanent deformation of the bimetallic spring, a helical spring 19 can be seen between her and the wire pull or between the locking lever and the wire pull. This also prevents damage to the device if one of the moving parts jams.
If the internal combustion engine has stood still for a long time and has become cold, the air flaps are closed due to the force of gravity and are also held in the closed position by the locking lever because the bimetal spring is cold. When the engine is started, the air flaps remain closed so that the cold air cannot flow to the cylinders.
The air flaps cannot open because the tensile force of the cold bimetal spring is greater than the pressure of the intake air on the flaps transmitted by the locking lever. As the machine heats up, the bimetal spring located just behind the cylinders is also heated. It gives way, the locking lever moves clockwise and the air flaps can open to a position that corresponds to the temperature of the bimetal spring.
Such an intermediate position is shown in the drawing and the path that the cooling air travels through the machine is indicated by arrows. When the exhaust air is at normal temperature, the flaps are fully open. When the machine is switched off, the air flaps close immediately, but as long as the bimetallic spring is still warm, they can open again immediately when the machine is restarted.
The described cooling air control device can be used for all types of air-cooled internal combustion engines, that is to say not limited to the arrangement shown with horizontally positioned cylinders. The position of the bimetal spring depends on the arrangement and position of the cylinders. In any case, it is always arranged behind the cylinders.
However, the device can also be used for water-cooled internal combustion engines, on which it comprises a radiator shutter in front of the water cooler and a thermal regulator behind the cylinders.
