Airtight vessel, of which at least two glass parts are connected to one another by means of a glaze. The present invention relates to an airtight vessel, of which at least two glass parts are attached to one another by means of a glaze whose softening point is lower than that of the glass parts. In this context, glaze is to be understood as a glass-like substance that can be attached in a solid state and easily made to flow, thereby creating a resistant, airtight connection with the glass parts.
It has already been proposed that parts of the wall of electrical discharge tubes or incandescent lamps with a thin glaze layer, for example with ssleiborat, to be attached to one another. It was found that the expansion coefficients of glass and glaze were important here and had to be adapted to one another in order to avoid cracking.
The glaze is mainly used because with the help of the same it is possible to keep the heating of the glass parts lower than if these parts were melted together immediately. However, there is the problem that the known glazes have a lower melting point, the higher the potassium and sodium content, which, however, brings about an increase in the expansion coefficient.
For this reason, it was not very possible to use low-melting glazes when joining hard glass parts, i.e. with a low potassium and sodium content, which glasses have a low coefficient of expansion and a high melting temperature. There. In this case, the disadvantage of the high level of heating during melting weighs heavily, so the use of a low-melting glaze would be very desirable in this case. However, since the expansion coefficient of the glaze had to be adapted to the small expansion coefficient of the glass parts, it was necessary to use glazes with a high melting temperature.
Another disadvantage of using a high melting temperature is that special measures have to be taken during cooling, since this temperature is so high that permanent stresses would occur in the glass during rapid cooling. For this purpose, the glass parts as a whole have to be heated relatively strongly, and after the glaze has melted, the cooling must take place evenly and slowly.
This high heating of the entire glass bulb is a disadvantage especially when it comes to the production of electric hot cathode tubes, especially so-called battery tubes, in which the heating energy for the hot cathodes can be obtained from a battery. Tubes of this type are very sensitive to excessive heating, as the cathodes are easily attacked by the gas released.
It has been found that these disadvantages can be avoided if, in accordance with the invention, in an airtight vessel, for example an electric discharge tube or incandescent lamp, in which at least two glass parts are glazed with a softening point that is lower than the softening points of the to connecting glass parts, are attached to each other, the glass parts of all the connection point are machined so smooth that the unevenness is smaller than half the thickness of the intermediate glaze layer,
which thickness is less than 100 microns.
It has been shown that if the glaze layer, which in the known applications always has a thickness of 0.21 1.i. 1 mm, thin enough is chosen. namely thinner than 100 y. and preferably about 10, et, the expansion coefficients of the glaze and the glass parts can be different within wide limits without cracking occurring.
This makes it possible to connect parts made of hard glass to one another and also to parts made of softer glasses by means of a glaze with a different coefficient of expansion.
The advantage of using very thin glaze layers is that quick, low-melting glaze can also be used in those cases in which only a glaze with a composition of such a composition can be selected that it has an expansion coefficient that is the same as that Hard glass and consequently also has a high melting point.
For this reason, in the present case the temperature at which the parts adhere to the glaze, that is to say are connected to one another, can be low, so that the temperature can remain significantly below the softening temperature of the glass parts. It has been shown that this temperature also remains below the temperature at which permanent stresses occur in the glass and that no special measures are required for cooling.
When connecting the parts of the piston of an electrical charger, the stirrer therefore practically does not need to be heated, which is particularly important for the so-called battery tubes.
The height of the piston before degassing can namely be relatively low, for example? 00 to? 10 "C, while the joining can take place at a temperature of = 120" C or lower. This temperature, which is much lower than the melting temperature of the glass, is therefore not a disadvantage for the electrodes in the tube.
But it is necessary that the glass parts on the @ -c # ri @ indun @ ssteIle are smooth. da, oll <t as a result (# 1'llcabc> nlleii (#li in @ li @ # sen very thin layers die Jlii- # licll-; - #it ms Luel:
