Okular.

Eyepiece. The invention is based on an ocular, consisting of two members, of which the objective side is a simple converging lens and the eye side consists of two lenses cemented together, the one facing the eye being a diverging lens and the other being a biconvex converging lens. One such eyepiece is known as a Kellner eyepiece.
For eyepieces of this type, in which a large distance between the exit pupil and the lens of the eye is desired, according to the invention, the eyepiece is designed so that the distance between the main points of the two members facing each other is less than half the focal length of the eyepiece. For the application of Gaussian theory, the imaging of this eyepiece can be approximated as a system of two internal members, the individual focal lengths of which are the same as those of the thick members and whose distance is equal to the distance between the main points of the two facing each other thick limbs.
If the total focal length of the eyepiece is F, the focal length of the eye lens is f 2, the distance between the main points of the two members facing each other is A ",, and the distance between the rear focal point of the eyepiece and the main point facing the eye lens, which is at one Telescope magnification that is not too weak is approximately equal to the distance of the exit pupil from the main point mentioned, denoted by s', then, provided that f 2 is greater than F, the relationship is true according to Gaussian theory

One can therefore achieve a large value of s 2 if one chooses the value of A, accordingly small.
It is also advantageous if the radius of the cemented surface for the astigmatic correction is greater than seven tenths of the ocular focal length.
Finally, for the purpose of color improvement, it is expedient to choose the Abbe number (the v. Value) of the lens of the eye-side segment facing the eye to be less than the value 35.
In the drawing and in the table below, for example, a waiter's cord eyepiece designed according to the invention is indicated. The dimensions given in millimeters relate to an eyepiece focal length F of 100 mm. The face field diaphragm is labeled ss.
