<tb> robinet <SEP> 19. <SEP> Quand <SEP> on <SEP> mettra.
Acetylene generator. Lcs dry lime acetylene generators, of the rotary cage type usually known, comprise a cage generally of cylindrical or very similar shape, rotating around an axis close to the horizontal.
These generators have the drawback of not allowing the complete wise filling of the carbide cage. It is necessary, in fact, either to fill L by hand by hatches made in the cage, or to completely remove the cage from the generator to furnish it with a removable base.
There are also known generators of this type in which the rotating cage has a very large diameter, of. such that one of the bottoms of the cylinder which composes it is either green in the middle and can receive a manual or automatic carbide charge sleeve.
This arrangement has on the other hand the inconvenience of requiring for a given load a very large dead space - of the cage, this

<SEP> this <SEP> generator <SEP> remedying <SEP> to <SEP> these <SEP> disadvantages <SEP> by <SEP> the <SEP> makes <SEP> that <SEP> the <SEP> cage < SEP> to <SEP> carbide <SEP> is

<tb>, for the <SEP> -water <SEP> inlet in <SEP> the <SEP> cage <SEP> crosses <SEP> of <SEP> preferably <SEP> the axial <SEP> opening, of the higher <SEP> corp <SEP>. Thanks to these arrangements, the pieces of carbide constantly change .c1e position during the rotation (the cage; moreover, the carbide loading can be carried out without any disassembly with the greatest ease.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the acetylene generator which is the subject of the invention, as well as some variant details.

Figs. 4 and 5 show a safety device preventing the supply of water into the carbide cage when the latter stops rotating.

Referring to fi-. 1, in a box 1 forming the casing of the generator is a .carbure cage formed of two conical parts 2 and 3 opposed by their large bases and of which the common axis 4 is inclined. The lower conical part 2 is screened, while the upper conical section 3 can be solid or screened. The cage rotates around the inclined axis 4 by means of a frustoconical toothing 5 meshing with a wheel 6 carried by a motor shaft 7.
The inclination of axis 4 is such that the lower generator crude cone gl@illa.gé \? or in the position close to the horizontal, which proves to be the best for a more or less uniform distribution of the level @de carbide in the cage during rotation. In order to make maximum use of the space available in the enclosure, the angle at the apex of cone 2 is approximately 90.
The frustoconical part 3 has a central or greening 8 in which is fitted a fixed -fill sleeve 9 closed by an airtight plug 10. This

Thus, while the pipe 17 @of the tap 19 communicates the pipes 16 and 20, another pipe 18 this valve communicates the pipe 21 with a pipe 24 opening into a supply tank 25 of a second generator. not shown with which this reservoir 25 can communicate by a pipe 26 after suitable rotation of the valve 19. It can be seen that, in this way, the reservoir 15 of the generator in service will be empty while the reservoir 25 is running. will be full and the corresponding generator will be idle.
In the event of an overpressure during the operation of one or the other of the generators, the gas discharge in the tanks 15 and 25 is prevented by check valves 27 and 28.
Fig. 3 shows a variant of the device shown in FIG. 2 in order to prevent freezing of the installation. In this case, the tube 21, instead of directly connecting the tap 19 to the constant level tank 22, communicates with a small boiler 13 comprising a heating element, electric for example, 14, and this boiler communicates with the level tank constant 22 by two pipes 21a and 211 opening at different levels in. the boiler, to ensure circula tion of water by thermosiphon.
It will thus be possible to maintain a sufficient temperature in the tank 22 and to facilitate the departure after a prolonged shutdown without having to thaw the pipes. It will also be advantageous to heat away the containers 15, 22, 25 and the pipes 16, 21, 24.
Although the constant level device described above prevents the drowning of lime, it does not prevent that, in the event of the cage stopping due to any breakdown, the carbide can reach a dangerous temperature which could cause serious accidents if water continues to flow into the generator. To avoid this drawback, the generator shown includes a safety device which interrupts the supply of water into the cage when the latter ceases to rotate.
For this purpose, in the pipe 16 (or 24) supplying the generator is interposed a valve 29 (or 30, fig. 2) kept open during the rotation of the cage and closing when the cage stops. Figs. 4 and 5 show, by way of example, a device for controlling these valves which will be assumed to be of the type with magnetic operation.
A shaft 31, integral in rotation @de the cage. carbide, can drive by a -dispositif a, sliding a shaft 32 located in its extension. This sliding device may be a friction coupling or, as shown in fig. 4, -He magnetic coupling constituted by a. permanent magnet 33 carried by the shaft 31 and inducing eddy currents in a bell 34 carried by the shaft 32.
This shaft 32 also carries a magnet 35 that a return device, consisting of a spring 36, or a heavy base of the magnet, applies in the resting position against a stop 37 (FIG. 5). During rotation of the cage, the coupling 33-34 tends to rotate the shaft 32 and presses the magnet 35 against the stopper 38 in the position shown in phantom. In this position, the magnet 35 attracts the soft iron paddle 39 -of a switch.
known type 40 which closes an electrical circuit controlling the valve 29 or 30 and bringing the latter, eis in the open position. As soon as the movement of the cage comes to a halt, the magnet 35 is recalled to its rest position, the switch 40 opens the circuit and the water supply is cut off to the generator.
The device & security can also be designed in a different way. Thus, -in the variant of FIG. 6, the feed tank 25 can communicate with the constant level tank 22 by pipes 24 and 21 through a. tap 41 suitably oriented so as to supply the reservoir 25 with the predetermined volume of water. To put the generator into service, turn the tap 41 to the position shown in fig. 6, and a pump 42 is started, the operation of which. is integral with the rotation of the generator cage.
This pump 42 sucks the water through a pipe 43 in the tank 25 and delivers this water through a pipe 44 into an open-air funnel 45 which has been placed at the height corresponding to the desired pressure for the gas to be produced. . From this funnel 45, the water-descends through a pipe 46 through the tap 41 into a pipe 47 which is provided with a check valve and which leads the water to the generator distribution ramp.
The excess water in the funnel 45 is collected in a tank 49 and returns via a pipe 50 to the supply tank 25. As long as the cage is rotating, the pump 42 pumps excess water into the tank. funnel 43 and, consequently, the generator is supplied as from a tank under load. As soon as the cage stops, the pump no longer delivers and the funnel 45 is no longer supplied, the generator no longer receives water.
The fib. 7 shows a variant similar to that of fib. 6. A water pump 51, driven by any source of motive force, cispire -in the supply tank 25 at a predetermined volume of water. The movement of the generator cage is provided by means of a water turbine 52 implemented by pressurized water delivered by the pump 51.
The water leaving the turbine is brought through a pipe 53, into a funnel 54 similar to the funnel 45 of the string. 6 and supplying 1. # u generator distribution rail through a pipe 55. The excess water collected in a tank 56 returns through a pipe 57 into the supply tank 25. It is understood that in the event of shutdown of the carbide cage, <B> 19, </B> turbine. 52 stops spreading and that, .de this fact, the generator can no longer be supplied with water.
