Hydraulic brake for vehicles, such as bicycles, motorcycles and the like. The present invention relates to a hydraulic brake for vehicles such as bicycles, motorcycles and the like, of the type in which the control pump is arranged in the handlebars and for which the transmission between the pump and the braking members is constituted by a piping formed by rigid tubes arranged mainly in the frame of the vehicle.
According to the invention, the portion of the pipe which is in the frame of the vehicle terminates, with its front end, inside the tubular rod of the fork, this end being connected with the end of the fork. portion of piping secured to the gui don by means of a rotary connector whose axis coincides with the axis of rotation -du handlebars.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic view of a bicycle provided with a brake according to the invention on the two wheels in FIG. 2 shows, on an enlarged scale, the front end of the frame of a bicycle partially in section; fig. 3 is the section through the portion of the frame of the bicycle which corresponds to the bottom bracket, and fig, 4 shows separately, on an enlarged scale and in axial section, the connection interposed between the stationary part and the rotating part of the the liquid line.
In a fig. 1, the frame 1. Of a bicycle which may be of any known type, is provided, both on the front wheel and on the rear wheel, with braking members represented schematically and indicated in their assembly respectively by 2 and 3, these, braking members being actuated by the hydraulic pressure transmitted by two lines 4 and 5 and generated by a arranged pouipe,
in the handlebar 6 and operated by means of the handle 7.
As seen in fig. 2, the pump for generating the pressure consists of a cylinder 8 with piston 9, a valve 10 and an interposed spring 11 which at the same time serves to keep the valve <B> 1.0 </B> in the. closed position and the piston 9 in its extreme outward position. The piston 9 can be moved to the. hand from the. extreme position in which it is brought by the spring 11.
For this purpose, the handle 7 is mounted on the handlebars 6 so as to be able to turn around its axis and it is: engaged with the handlebar 6 using a thread 18 at a steep pitch or by any other appropriate way. At the bottom: of the handle 7 is articulated a rod 19, the free end of which abuts against one end of the piston 9.
Under these conditions, if the handle 7 is rotated on the handlebar 6, in an anti-clockwise direction: clockwise, said handle moves -in the longitudinal direction, causing the udder to advance 9 , which then recedes under the thrust of the spring 11 when the handle is given to itself or turned in the opposite direction.
Instead: of a handle, it is possible to adopt, for the actuation of the piston 9, another member, for example a lever pivoted and articulated with the end of a lever articulated to the piston.
The braking components: indicated by and 3: in fig. 1 can be of any type desired and each of them comprises, for the actuation of the movable stirrup or movable branches, a cap 29 which covers. sealed closure at one end: of a tubular core 30, the opposite end of which is connected with the duct of the transmission.
This pipe interposed between the pump 8 and the braking members and disposed in my jeure part within the framework of the bicycle is constituted by a rigid pipe including a branch 33 ', fixed to the. tubular rod 34 of the front fork (mounted in the fork connector 35), terminates at the core 30 attached to the fork (Fig. 92).
The other branch 36 leads to the tubular core 30: of the rear braking member (fig. 3): by traversing the lower tube 37 of the frame from which it comes out near the front end to enter in the tubular rod 34 opposite the lower open end of said rod.
The end of the tube 36 which enters the rod 34 must connect with the portion of piping 33 connected directly to the pump 8 such that the relative rotation of the two branches of the piping is possible. To this end :, the tube 33 ends in a branching head 38 from which the tube <B> 33 '</B> leaves which goes to the core 30 of the braking member of the front wheel and a second 36 'destiny tube (\, to, connect with the: 36 tube of the rear wheel braking device.
The coupling between the adjacent ends of the tubes 36 and 36 'is ensured by a rotation coupling whose axis coincides with the axis of rotation of the rod 34 and of the handlebar 6.
A construction of such a fitting particularly suitable for this application is shown in <U> fi-. </U> 4. In this figure, 39 indicates a drilled section intended to be fixed at the end. of tube 36 'and 4 () indicates a cut also drilled and fitted on the end of tube 36.
The mouths of these two cups have threaded portions that allow them to be screwed together with. interposition of a ring of gasket, for example rubber 41 which can be arranged between the front edge of the cup 40 and the bottom of the cup 39.
Cup 40 receives; the end -du tube 36 which constitutes a separate portion from the rest of the. pipe to which it is connected to, using a sleeve 46. For its housing in the section 40, the end of the tube 36 forms a swollen head 43 whose external shape corresponds to the shape of the bottom (the , cut 40.
The frontal face of the head. 43 has an annular groove which, in its central region, corresponds to; at 1'extréini.té of tube 36, forms a nozzle with wall, frustoconical external.
The annular groove of the head 43 is occupied by a sleeve 42, for example made from rubber, which surrounds the central nozzle and is forced onto it by a spring 44 whose opposite end abuts on a pierced stud 45 which comprises a conical face pressing on the conical bottom of the cup 39.
Because of the ring 41 and the sleeve 42 which is forced both on the nozzle terminating the tube 36 and on the internal surface of the cup 40, the coupling described provides a sealing coupling between the two portions 36 and 36 '. Of the. piping, while allowing relative rotation between the cup 39 integral with the portion 36 ', and therefore the handlebars, and. the end of the stationary portion 36.
Therefore, the pipe 33, 33 'which leads directly to the braking member for the. front wheel can rotate freely with the handlebar 6 around the axis of the coupling 39, 40 which rotates tightly on the head 43 ending the stationary tube 36.
With the arrangement described, the hydraulic transmission between the pump and each braking member is ensured by a rigid pipe and under conditions allowing good conservation of the members and complete operating safety.
