Description

Method for treating the bearing surface of shell bearings for bearing parts of internal combustion engines. For the bearing of the bearing parts of crankshafts, connecting rods, etc. of internal combustion engines, bearing shells made of aluminum are used recently. The bearing pressure is very high and seizure can occur, especially if there is insufficient lubrication, poor oil, etc.

The purpose of the present invention is to reduce the risk of pitting. According to the invention, this purpose is achieved by providing the bearing surfaces of the bearing shells made of aluminum with a coating made of friction-reducing metal and then allowing the bearing part to run into the bearing.

Tin is particularly suitable for producing the coating. The coating is expediently given a thickness of about 0.01 to 0.04 mm. The tin can be applied in any way, only the desired small thickness of the layer and the great evenness of the same must be guaranteed. For example, it is expedient to knock down electrically, spray on and apply chemically. The latter is done using suitable stannate baths.

When the bearing part enters the warehouse, the coatings work themselves off at the points where the pressure is greater than the rest, and a completely evenly loaded sliding surface is quickly formed.
