Description

Cutting and cooling dispersion. Cutting and cooling dispersions are generally made using oils and fats. It has now been found that dispersions of this type, such as those used in machining or non-cutting shaping, are particularly suitable in which graphite is finely distributed in a waterglass solution. The protective effect is based on the fact that it is possible to keep the finely divided graphite in a suspended state even in a dilute waterglass solution.

The water glass solution acts as a carrier for the colloidal graphite and enables the formation of a fine protective or Lubricating film.

Water glass is advantageously used in a proportion that is five to six times the amount of graphite added. The dispersion is expediently prepared with heating, it being possible to add a dispersing agent. A small amount of mineral oil, for example, has proven particularly suitable for this purpose. A water softener can also be added.

Exemplary embodiment: 90 g of commercially available soda waterglass solution are heated to 90 in a stirrer with the addition of about 15 to 20 g of graphite, with 5 g of mineral oil respectively. another fat-containing emulsifier can be added.

After the dispersion has been prepared, a water softener known per se is added.

In this way, the result is a concentrate that is immediately ready for use and that, depending on the intended use, can be diluted with water as desired without difficulty. The handling is about the same as with the known drilling and cutting emulsions, but there is a significant saving in oily and greasy components. In addition to the lubricating effect, the dispersion also has a high cooling effect.
