. 4-diisocyanat be handelt.
Process for the production of a drying oil. It has been found that very high-quality, drying oils are obtained if free hydroxyl-containing esters of polyalcohols and unsaturated fatty acids, optionally in the form of their mixed esters with other monocarboxylic acids, are reacted with isocyanates. Depending on the choice of components, the physical nature, chemical composition and molecular weight of the new products can be varied as desired.
In this way, oils are obtained which dry on and through considerably faster than the known drying oils and which, inter alia, have excellent water resistance. Depending on the choice of isocyanates used, it is also up to you to produce soft to hard film coatings.
One works expediently in such a way that one starts from naturally unsaturated oils or fats and these by adding further amounts of polyalcohols, such as for example glycerol, pentaerythritol or trimethylolä.than, in mono- or. Diester leads over and then the remaining hydroxyl groups with isocyanates, for example a diisocyanate or a mixture of mono- and diisocyanates,
brings to implementation. This can be done in the presence or absence of an inert solvent. Instead of starting from natural oils, you can also use their free acids or synthetic unsaturated fatty acids.
In addition, in order to achieve certain properties, other monocarboxylic acids, such as benzoic acid, can also be condensed. Especially when dicarboxylic acids are also used, it is sufficient in many cases if only one monoisocyanate is used for the post-condensation.
Since the isocyanates can react both with the hydrocyl groups and with any free carboxyl groups that may still be present, it is possible in this way to obtain completely neutral oils.
The new way of working also allows a number of poorly drying oils, such as lacquer tendrils, cottonseed oil, - tall oil u. Ä. m. so to reshape; that the drying times are shortened and the water resistance is improved. As for the new. Operation particularly suitable oils respectively. their free fatty acids are: linseed oil, blown linseed oil.
Wood oil, soybean oil, dehydrated castor oil, fish oil and sorbic acid. Isocyanates suitable for the new working method are, for example: phenyl isocyanate, dichlorophenyl isocyanate, cyclohexyl isocyanate, the isocyanate from the palm fatty amine mixture, ss-decaly lisocyanate, 1 - chlorophenylene - 2.
4 - diisocyanate, tolidine diisocyanate, and 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate. Instead of isocyanates, you can also use substances that react like these, for example urethanes or adducts of malonic acid and isocyanates.
The oils produced in accordance with the above procedure can be cut with stand oils and, if necessary, processed with the usual resin and pigment combinations, as they are.
The present invention now relates to the production of a drying oil by reacting a mixture of glycerol esters of linseed oil fatty acid, in which some of the hydroxyl groups of the glycerol are in the free state, with 1-chlorophenylene-2,4-diisocyanate. Such a mixture is most easily formed by heating linseed oil with glycerine, with mono- and diesters being formed by transesterification.
A reaction mixture is formed during the reaction with the dissocyanate. the quantitative composition of which differs depending on the reaction conditions. In any case, it represents an 01 that, compared to linseed oil, is characterized by faster drying properties and, in the form of dried paints, by improved water resistance. Example 1: 439 parts by weight of lacquer linseed oil and 28 parts by weight of glycerine (anhydrous) are transesterified in a nitrogen atmosphere by rapid heating to 280 and left at this temperature for about 90 minutes.
After cooling to 150, the solution of 67 parts by weight of 1-chlorophenylene-2,4-diisocyanate in 300 Cxe -,%, iclitpeile toluene is gradually reduced, with the solvent continuously distilling off. The reaction product is kept at 150 for about 30 minutes under reduced pressure.
What remains is a light-colored (-) 1 that is clearly soluble in gasoline and whose viscosity is significantly higher than that of linseed oil. : Lacquer spreads made from these agents with siccatives show very quick drying and thorough drying and, moreover, have a water resistance that cannot be achieved by linseed oil or stand oil streaks. The acid number of the oil is 0. Example 2: 439 parts by weight of lacquer linseed oil and 46 parts by weight of glycerine are heated to 280.
Then the melt is 93 parts by weight of 1-chlorophenylene-? . 4-diisocyanate is treated. The petrol soluble () oil has a higher viscosity. as common linseed oil standing oils, shows an excellent drying and thorough drying and has an excellent water resistance.
