Edge folding machine, in particular for footwear. The invention relates to folding machines, that is to say machines for folding or folding over the edge part of pieces of leather, in particular of shoe shafts or a binding tape sewn onto the edge part.
Usually the glue required to glue the edge or edging tape that is bent over on known machines is applied before bending, which, however, often leads to gluing and smearing of the machine tools and the shoe uppers processed on the machine because of the stickiness and viscosity of the glue. If the adhesive is such that it has to be activated by a solvent or heat when it is folded over, this also does not remedy the abovementioned problems; rather, it usually results in a necessary slowing down of the entire folding work. A further delay occurs due to the longer pressure period for sticking the bent edge part and for the adhesive to dry out.
Even the attempted application of adhesive in the folding machine itself shortly before the folding point did not lead to any better results in practice, and this for the same reasons related to the adhesive nature.
To remedy these inconveniences, the folding machine according to the invention, which is provided with a workpiece carrier, a folder and a presser foot, has a hollow presser foot through which a thermoplastic adhesive is applied to the workpiece, and a heating device by means of which adhesive is used The flow through the presser foot is kept in a plastic state.

The Olber frame 10 G of the machine shown with the overhanging arm 14 mounted on a table or work bench 13 (FIG. 1). A workpiece carrier 16 is formed on the outer end 15 of the arm 14. Furthermore, the frame 10 has an arm 18 (FIGS. 1 and 5) lying above the arm 14, which is surrounded by a hood 19.
The machine has a folder 20 lFig. 17 and 20), which is moved from its rest position (Fig. 17) below the surface of the arm 14 into the position shown in Fig. 20 for unifolding or folding the edge part of the workpiece against a presser foot 22. During this folding process and the upward stroke of the folder 20, the workpiece is cycled against the presser foot 22 by a clamping jaw 24. To release the workpiece, the clamping jaw is sunk into the arm 14 in a known manner. The presser foot 22 is hollow and adhesive is applied to the workpiece through its hollow interior. The folded edge part of the workpiece is pressed after the adhesive has been applied, and at the same time the workpiece is pushed forward a certain distance by a hammer 26i and an anvil 28 (FIG. 1).
The hammer first moves downwards towards the anvil and presses the folded edge part of the workpiece against the main part of the workpiece, whereupon the hammer and anvil as a whole are shifted backwards in the machine - with the workpiece clamped between them. take. A guide finger 30, which is fastened to the arm 18, is finitely engaged (your edge of the MT main part of the piece.
The folder 20 is attached to an arm 32 (FIGS. 17 and 20) which is rotatable on a bolt 34 (FIG. 18) and moves the folder back and forth between the end positions shown in FIGS. 17 and 20. The arm 32 is actuated by a shaft 36 which is itself driven via pulley 38 (Fig. 1). The shaft 36 carries a Kur belzapfen 40 (FIGS. 17 and 20), which engages in a slotted bolt 42 of the arm 32, so that the pin 40 swings the arm 32 up and down when the shaft 36 rotates.
To adjust the range of motion of the folder 20, the pivot pin 34 is adjusted. The bolt sits in an eccentric borehole of a sleeve 44 (Fix. 18) which is rotatably inserted in the front end 15 of the arm 14. On one end of the sleeve 44 an arm 46 is attached, which carries a handle 48 (Fix. 17). Thus, the sleeve can be rotated to adjust the pivot pin 34. The bushing is locked in the set position by a bolt 52 (Fix. 18 and 19) which engages in a toothing 50 (Fix. 19) on the lower surface of the arm 46 and is loaded by a spring 54 (Fig. 18) . The bolt 52 carries a handle 56 (FIG. 17) by means of which it can be pushed out of its blocked position.
The hammer 26 is formed on the top of an arm 66 (fix. 20). The arm 66 is rotatable in its center on a bolt 68 which is carried by an arm 69. The arm 69 carries the anvil 28 on its outer end. The hammer 26 is swung back and forth by a rod 70 (fixtures 1 and 20) which can be moved back and forth. The rod 70 is connected to an arm 72 (Fix. 1) which is swung back and forth by the drive shaft 36. The arm 66 carrying the hammer is fork-shaped at its un terende and pegged to a block 76 (Fix. 20), which sits on the rod 70 so that it can move freely. The block 76 is held against a stop 80 fastened on the rod 70 by a spring 82 which rests with its outer end against a nut 84 screwed onto the front end of the rod 70. Hence, the hammer action is compliant.
The bottom end is used to move the hammer and anvil as a whole to gradually advance the workpiece. of the arm 69, which carries the hammer arm 66 and the anvil 28, mounted on a sleeve 90 (FIG. 20). The sleeve sits in a bearing formed in the vertical wall 91 of the arm 14 and is rotated back and forth. The working movements of the sleeve 90 and the rod 70 are coordinated with one another so that the advancing movement of the hammer and the anvil only begins after the hammer has been moved into its pressed position in which it clamps the workpiece against the anvil .
After the end of the feed movement, the hammer is lifted off the workpiece again, whereupon the hammer and anvil move back to their starting position along the feed line.
The presser foot 22 can yield upwards with respect to the arm 14. A Trä ger 104 (Fix. 11) of the presser foot 22 has a drilling trough in which the presser foot is inserted movably and which is approximately parallel to the movement path of the folder 20, so that when the workpiece thickness changes, the distance between the movement paths of the folder and the The presser foot remains unchanged:
An arm 106 is attached to the upper end of the presser foot by a screw 108. The inner end of the screw sits in a recess in the presser foot, where the exact setting of the presser foot in the arm 106 is secured. The arm 106 carries two pins 110 and 112 (Fix. 7) which are inserted through the upper end of the carrier 104 and prevent rotation between the presser foot and the carrier. The pin 112 is extended downwards and carries a spring 114 which rests on a nut 116.
The upper end of the spring is supported on the carrier 104, and thus the spring tries to push the presser foot in the carrier 104 downwards. The downward movement of the printer foot is limited by a screw 120 (FIG. 12) which is carried by the arm 106 and abuts against the carrier 104.
The carrier 104 of the Drüclkerfusses sits on the outer end of an arm 12 2 (Fig.11), which is attached to a console 126 by a bolt l24. The console itself is attached to the arm 18 by a screw 128. For the precise adjustment of the presser foot and the other tools, the console 126 has a horizontal guide bar 130 which engages in a groove in the arm 18. so that the console and the printer foot can be adjusted in the feed direction. The bolt 124 is adjustable in the longitudinal direction of the arm 18 in a slot in the console 136.
The arm 123 and the carrier 104l of the presser foot can thus also be adjusted in the longitudinal direction of the arm 18, that is to say transversely to the feed direction.
The guide finger 30 is in a Trä ger 132 (Fig. 11 and 15) vertically movable Lich. The top of the finger 30 carries an arm 134 through which a screw 136 is screwed. The screw 136 is seated. on the carrier 132 and thus limits the downward movement of the guide finger 30. Guide pins 138 and 140 (FIG. 15) are inserted through the arm 134 and a side projection of the carrier 132 and thus prevent rotation of the finger 30 with respect to its carrier 132 Spring 142 sits on bolt 140 and tries to push finger 30 downward.
The carrier 132 of the finger 30 is fastened ver adjustably by a screw 143 on a bracket 144, and thus the finger 30 can be adjusted transversely to the direction of advance. The console 144 is adjustably attached to the console 126 by a screw 145 (FIG. 11), and this adjustment takes place along the direction of advance. The finger 30 can thus be adjusted in the direction of advance and transversely thereto. A lever 146 is rotatably attached at 147 to the trigger 133 for lifting the finger 30. The lever MG, which is connected to the arm 13-4 by a link 148. has a handle 150 through which the lever can be rotated, the finger 30 giving the pressure of the spring 142 is lifted.
A lever 152 with a handle 1i4 is connected in a similar manner to the printer foot 22, so that the printer foot can also be lifted against the pressure of its spring 114.
As already mentioned, glue gets through the hollow. Inside of the presser foot 22 (Fig. 1l) applied to the workpiece. The flow opening in the bottom of the presser foot is significantly smaller than the hollow interior of the presser foot, and in the hollow interior sits a row 156, the width of which corresponds to the clear width of the lower flow opening. The clear width is measured in this way. that the adhesive cannot flow freely out of the printer foot, but that the adhesive can only be applied to the workpiece under pressure. The amount of adhesive applied is also measured by appropriate pressure regulation. The upper end of the tube 156 carries a plug-in washer 158 made of an electrical insulating material. and a conical fitting 160 is seated on the upper end of the tube 156.
The tube 156 is in communication with an adhesive line 162. The line also carries a plug-in washer 164 made of an electrical insulating material. The adhesive line 162 consists partly of a metal bellows 165 (FIG. 13), which with. a heat insulating material 166, for example asbestos. and is coupled to tube 156 by screw threads 168 (FIG. 11). The smaller end of the cone-shaped adapter 160 is seated in the Vorsteek disk 164, and both parts are held together by a clamping element 170.
One end of this clamping element 1.70 is supported against the arm 106, one fork end encompasses the line 162 and sits on the plug-in washer 164. A vision hood 172 is inserted through the clamping member 170 and screwed into the arm 106. An electrical current is sent through the bellows 165 of the conduit 162 and through the tube 156 of the presser foot, heating the entire adhesive conduit and thus maintaining the therapeutic adhesive in a liquid state until it has been applied to the workpiece.
The electrical current travels through the tube 156 and from its lower end back up through the presser foot 22 to a lead wire 174 connected to the arm 106. Due to the illustrated design of the tube 156 in the presser foot, which is at a certain distance from the inner wall of the presser foot and which is insulated at the upper end of the presser foot, the heat effect is thus concentrated on the adhesive line itself, since the cross section of the tube is large is smaller than that of the presser foot.
The presser foot has a recess 176 (FIG. 14) in the side opposite the folder 20, into which recess the folder 20 moves on its upward stroke, whereby the upper edge of the workpiece is slightly compressed (see FIG. 21). During the downward movement of the hammer 26 for pressing the edge part or edging tape against the workpiece W, the hammer presses the upset workpiece edge inwards (see FIG. 22), while at the same time the workpiece is pressed flat against the anvil. This means that the workpiece edge is bevelled to a certain extent. This makes the hemming work easier and, in particular, gives the finished workpiece a more pleasing look.
Adhesive is sent from a pump 180 (Fig. 5) through line 162 and the presser foot. The pump sits in the bottom of an adhesive container 182. The adhesive container 182 is attached to the back of the arm 18 and is also heated to keep the thermoplastic adhesive liquid. The adhesive container 182 is lined with heat insulating material 184 and covered by a lid 186 made of heat insulating material. A heating cartridge 188 is arranged below the container. Below the heating cartridge 188 and separated from it by a metal plate 190, a tube 192 is attached, in which an easily volatilized liquid is stored.
The tube 192 is connected by a capillary line 193 to a bellows 194 (FIGS. 1 and 16) through which a switch built into the circuit of the heating cartridge 188 is actuated. The cartridge heater, plate 190 and tube 192 are supported on a plate 195 (FIG. 5) made of insulating material.
For faster and better heat radiation from the bottom of the adhesive container 182, a number of parallel plates 198 are formed on the inside of the bottom, which extend from one wall of the container to just before the other wall (see Fig. 6). A drain 200 is built into this other wall through which the adhesive can flow out of all the compartments of the container formed by the plates 198.
The plates 198 have aligned holes 202 (FIGS. 5 and 6) through which the elongated pump 180 is inserted. As a result, the pump is heated by the plates 198 at the same time. The pump 180 consists of a bush 206 which is moved back and forth in a bearing bush 208. The bearing bush 208 sits in the left wall of the adhesive container 182 (FIG. 5). A piston 210 reciprocates in the sleeve 206, the front end of which is tapered.
In front of the piston, two diametrically opposite holes 212 are formed in the sleeve 206, which alternately establish a connection between the glue container 7.82 and two diametrically opposite holes 214 in a sleeve 216 during the movement of the sleeve 206, namely when the sleeve 216 is out the position shown is rotated by 90. The sleeve 216 thus acts like a rotary valve, by means of which the flow of adhesive through the presser foot onto the workpiece can be released or stopped. The sleeve 216 is inserted into the outer end of the sleeve 206 and surrounds the front end of the piston 210.
The sleeve 216 has bearing points 218, which are guided in a bearing sleeve 220 in the right wall of the adhesive container 182. The piston 210 and the sleeve 206 are constantly moved back and forth during the machine operation, and the arrangement is such that when the sleeve 216 is rotated by 90 from the position shown, the holes 214 through the holes 212 with the adhesive container 182 are connected during part of the suction stroke of the piston 210 and are closed during the pressure stroke of the piston. The moment at which the pump inlet is completed can be adjusted so that the amount of adhesive that is pumped into the line 162 is different.
The sleeve 206 and piston 210 of the pump are driven by a shaft 222 (Figs. 1, 2 and 5). The shaft sits in bearings 224 and 226 in the arm 18 of the machine frame. The lower end of the shaft 222 is connected to the shaft 36 via a transmission 228 and 230. The sleeve 206 and the piston 210 are respectively by rods 232. 234 (Fig. 5) connected to eccentrics 236 and 238 on the shaft 222, which can be adjusted to each other. The upper end of the shaft 222 carries a flange 240 (FIG. 4) to which a bolt 242 is attached, which engages in a recess 244 of the eccentric 226 and thus firmly connects the eccentric to the shaft 222. The eccentric 236 has a carrier 246 on which the eccentric 238, which drives the piston 210. adjustable seat.
The eccentric 238 is also seated on a carrier 248 which is formed out on a plate 250. The plate 250 has a finger 252 which can engage in a number of notches 254 (FIG. 3) in a flange 256 of the eccentric 238 and thus couples the carrier 248 to the eccentric 238. The carriers 246 and 248 have stepped, interlocking approaches. A screw 258, which is screwed into the shaft 222 (FIG. 2), fixes the eccentrics 236, 238. To adjust the eccentric 238 be with respect to the eccentric 236, whereby the. Pump drive is adjusted, the screw 258 is first loosened so that the finger 252 can be lifted out of its herbe 254, whereupon the eccentric 238 can be rotated with respect to its carrier 246, 248.
After the adjustment of the eccentric 238, the finger 252 is moved back into the notch 254 that has been waxed on it, the eccentric 238 being set in its set position again.
The top of the glue line 162 is through. the sleeve 216 is connected to the pump in such a way that the line 162 can be moved along with the upward movement of the presser foot with respect to the merl item carrier. The upper end of the line 162 carries a metal plug-in disc 260 near the bellows (FIGS. 5 and 7), and this disc carries a contact ring 264 for a power cable 266 on a lug 262. The end of the line 162 is against a pass - Stüek 268 (Fig. 5) held. The fitting piece 268 is seated in a recess in a protruding disk 270 made of insulating material.
The locking washer 27 () again sits in a recess in a plate 272. The locking washer and the plate are perforated and there is between the plate 272 and the end of the sleeve 216. seen a ball joint 274 before. The ball joint 274 sits in the outflow end of the sleeve 216 and has a cylindrical portion that sits in the hole of the plate 272. The plate 272 (FIG. 9) is connected to the adjacent @, # land 184 of the adhesive material container 182 by means of visual screws 276.
Between the screw heads and the plate -) 7--) there are springs 278. The springs allow a tilting movement of the plate 272 with respect to the adhesive container, although the connection is held permanently with adhesive.
The conduit 162 and the connector row 260 are held in engagement with the fitting 268 by a bracket 280 (FIG. 5). One end of the bracket 280 is held against a flange by a screw 284 inserted into the plate 272 The other end of the clip engages an insulating washer 286 that sits on the line 162 and bears against the washer 260 with the end of the line 162 held tightly against the fitting 268. The pre - Steek disks 270 and 286 insulate the adhesive line 162 through which the heating current flows.
The sleeve 216 is, as already mentioned, rotated back and forth in order to open and close the holes 212. This ge is done by means of a solenoid 290 (Figs. 1, 2, 5 and 7). The solenoid sits on a plate 292 which is attached to the arm 18 of the machine frame. With the armature 294 of the solenoid, a Schlit th 296 is connected by bolts 295, which carries a pawl 298 (Fig. 8). The pawl 298 has the task of rotating the sleeve 216 by 90 with current flowing through the solenoid. For this purpose, the sleeve 216 is provided with a gear 300 (Fig. 5) which is driven by a gear 302. The gear 302 sits on a bolt 304 which is inserted into the wall of the glue container 182.
Two switching gears 306 and 308 are also seated on the bolt 304 and are connected to the gear wheel 302 by a coupling 310, 312. The pawl 298 is held against the ratchet wheel 306 by a spring 314 (FIG. 8), so that when the slide 296 moves to the right (FIGS. 7 and 8), the gear wheel 302 is rotated in the direction of the arrow and the sleeve 216 with it turns. In order to precisely determine the amount of rotation of the gear wheel 302, the carriage 296 has a nose 316 that interacts with the ratchet wheel 308. The teeth of the indexing wheel 308 are opposite to the teeth of the indexing wheel 306, so that the nose 316 engages a tooth of the indexing wheel 308 when moving from the position in FIG. 7 to the position in FIG. 8 and thus the rotation of the indexing wheel the distance from tooth gap to tooth gap be limited.
To prevent the gear wheel 302 from rotating backwards when the carriage 296 moves backwards into the position in FIG. 7, a spring 320 (FIG. 5) sits between the ratchet wheel 308 and nuts 322 on the outer end of the bolt 304, which Gear against a brake disc 323, the gear 302 being held.
The carriage 296 sits in a bracket 324 which is attached to the adhesive container 182 by screws 325. A spring 326, which is fastened with one end on a fixed bolt 328 and with the other end on the bolt 295, tends to pull the armature of the solenoid to the left of FIG. When the solenoid 290 is switched on, the pawl 298 moves the ratchet wheel 306 and thus the gear wheel 302 by 1/10 of a rotation.
The transmission ratio between the gears 300 and 302 is such that the bushing 216 is rotated by 90 when the gearwheel 302 is rotated by 1 / 1o of a revolution, so that each time the solenoid is switched on, the bushing 216 alternates between its open and is rotated closed position. When the solenoid is switched off, the armature 294 and carriage 296 are moved back to their starting position without rotating the sleeve 216.
In order that the respective setting of the sleeve 216 can be recognized immediately, a display device is actuated by the gear wheel 302. The display device has a slide rod 332 (FIG. 7), in which the arm 18 can be moved back and forth and one end protrudes from the machine frame. The rod 332 is pushed inward by a spring 334 seated between a head 336 and the frame arm 18, which rod engages the lower end of an arm 338 which is mortised to the bracket 324 at 340.
The arm 338 has an inclined surface 342 which is set in the track of bolts 344 seated on the gear 302, so that when the gear 302 moves from the position in FIG. 7 to that in FIG to the right, against the pressure of the spring 334 and thus the front end of the rod 332 is moved out of the machine. The movement of the arm 338 by the spring 334 when the sleeve 216 is rotated to close the holes 214 in the sleeve 206 is limited by abutment of the arm 338 against the console 324 (FIG. 7).
A roller 350 (FIGS. 1, 7 and 10), which is rotatable on a bolt 352, is used to apply adhesive to a workpiece part which, for example, has to be folded by hand when it rains its very strong curvature. The bolt sits in a block 354 made of insulating material. This block, in turn, is fastened to supports 356 and 358 by means of screws 360 and nuts 362. The supports 356, 358 are isolated from the nuts 362 and the screw 360 by insulating washers 363. The carriers are connected to the machine frame by screws 364 (FIG. 1), an insulating piece 366 (FIG. 7) being seated between the carriers and the machine frame. The roller 350 is partially seated in an adhesive trough 370 (FIG. 10) made of sheet metal which is seated between the supports 356, 358 and the block 354.
When a low-voltage current is sent through the container 370, the latter is heated so that the adhesive located therein is obtained in a liquid state. Power cables 266 and 372 are connected to brackets 356 and 358 by screws 364 (Fig. 1).
The circuit diagram of the machine is shown in FIG. The primary coil 408 of a step-down transformer 409 is connected to the power source 400 and 402 via fuses 403 and 404 and a resistor 406. The secondary coil 410 of the transformer is connected to the container 370, the roller 350, the adhesive line 162 and the tube 156 of the presser foot, these parts being connected one behind the other. The heating of these machine parts is regulated by switching the resistor 406 accordingly by means of a manual switch 415 (FIGS. 1 and 16).

The pump . 180 is operated at the same time. If the sleeve 216 is rotated from the position shown in FIG. 5 to a position in which the inlet holes 212 are open by switching on the solenoid with the switch 424, the adhesive is applied through the presser foot to the workpiece. When pressing the folded workpiece edge part, the applied adhesive is then spread out (see Fig. 24).
Since the adhesive is thermoplastic and cools down quickly after being applied to the workpiece, it sets immediately. Instead of stopping the machine when a workpiece has been finished, actuating the switch 424 turns the sleeve 216, which acts as a valve, to temporarily stop the flow of glue through the presser foot, so that after a new workpiece is set only the valve must be opened by actuating the switch 424 accordingly.
