Floating coupling of the tool holder spindle of a machine tool with its control shaft. In precision machine tools, in construction: which has sought to simplify the transmission components, the gearbox and the spindle are generally housed in the same rigid housing and the spindle is in line with the shaft. output of the gearbox.
These precision machine tools must have a spindle that turns round, to within a few thousandths of a millimeter; to achieve this degree of precision, it is advisable to mount the spindle on bearings, or bearings executed with particular care and which are very expensive. We cannot generalize its use.
The shafts of the gearbox are therefore mounted, for reasons of economy, on ordinary bearings that can be found on the market. We know that they generally have an eccentricity of up to three hundredths of a millimeter.
If the output shaft of the gearbox is rigidly coupled to the spindle, the eccentricity of the bearings of this shaft, aggravated by small defects in the execution of the centering, influence very unfavorably the rotation. ; -of the spindle. Any other misalignment of the shafts would have an even more serious effect.
The spindle can, it is true, be connected to the output shaft of the gearbox by an elastic coupling, such as a flexible disc, to attenuate the effect of the errors of parallelism or of alignment, but the flexibility of the coupling member causes -vibrations -of the tool, harmful to the finish of the part being machined.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. It relates to a: floating coupling of the tool holder spindle of a machine tool with its control shaft, in which these two parts are in line, one behind the other.
This coupling is characterized by two flanges facing each other and fixed, one at the end of the spindle, the other at the end of the shaft, and by an intermediate disc having radial grooves, the flanges being provided tenons each of which penetrates into one of these grooves and can slide therein radially, without lateral play, all to compensate for the effect of small errors in alignment or parallelism between the spindle and its shaft.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the present invention as well as a variant. The fi-. 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of the embodiment; fig. 2 is an axial section through II-11 of FIG. 1, and fig. 3 is a side elevation illustrating a phase of operation. The fi-. 4 and 5 show the variant; 1a, fig. 4 is an axial section thereof and FIG. 5 a section through V-V of fig. 4.
In fig. 1, the gearbox output shaft is mounted on bearings 2 and 3. This shaft 1 carries a flange 4, having two prismatic tenons 5 and 5 ', symmetrically placed with respect to the axis and which s 'engage in grooves 6' of a coupling part 6 having the shape of a disc. These grooves are parallel to the alignment of the tenons 5 and 5 '.
The spindle 10 is mounted in precision bearings 11 and 12; it carries at its end a flange 13, similar to the flange 4 and facing it, and which also has two prismatic tenons 14 and 14 'engaging in the corresponding grooves 6' of the part 6. The alignment of these. last grooves is perpendicular to that. the first grooves where the tenons 5 and 5 'engage.
Fig. 2 is a section perpendicular to the axis of rotation and passing through. of the. part 6. The axis of rotation of shaft 1 is at l 'and that of shaft 10 at 10'. The drawing represents these offset axes, but on the assumption that they are still parallel to each other.
The figure shows how the disc 6 accommodates this defect .de centering, by sliding from the. quantity required in relation to tenons 5 and 5 ', on the one hand, and 14, 14', on the other hand; this sliding is made possible by the fact that the. The depth of the grooves in the disc allows the tenons to slide in it, but without lateral play.
As indicated in a very exaggerated way in fig. 3, in the case where the axes 10 and 1 form a broken line, the coupling allows a partial dislocation of the drive tenons to attenuate the effect of this lack of parallelism.
In the variant of fi--. 4 and 5, each tenon 5, 5 'or 14, 14' carries a rotating and circular body, for example a 1.5 ball (or roller) bearing through which it is guided, without lateral play, in the corresponding groove whose shape has been modified accordingly. In this way, greater sensitivity is given to the coupling by preventing the relative sliding of the tenons and the disc from being braked by an exaggerated sliding friction of the tenons in the grooves, under the effect of a torque to be transmitted.
