Process for the production of detoxified town gas by means of steam in the presence of a contact substance. There is a method for continuous detoxification of town gas is known, in wel chem a contact furnace space for the ent poisoning carbon oxide-containing gas is divided such that the latter flows through the sub-spaces of the contact furnace in alternating directions, the gas always being regenerative in the respective first sub-space on the hot Kon contact substance (catalyst) preheated to the required reaction temperature and in the second compartment in the presence of water vapor the carbon oxide conversion and the carbonic acid absorption are going on.
The present invention relates to a similar process for the production of ent-poisoned town gas by means of steam in the presence of a contact substance. Instead of the sub-spaces of a contact furnace, two spatially separated but thermally related contact spaces, namely a main and a secondary contact space, are used to carry out the gas detoxification, whereby both spaces are thermally connected to each other in such a way that
that at least part of the sensible heat of the converted gas from the main contact space is used for the gas to be converted in the secondary contact space. These two contact spaces can be connected either one behind the other or next to each other.
In the first case, the entire gas to be detoxified flows through both the main and the secondary contact space one after the other, in the second case the gas flows through a contact space after it has been divided into two partial quantities, or two gases (gas mixtures) of different types and properties can also be used at the same time means to flow through these rooms,
that means .be subjected to detoxification. In the case of the juxtaposition of the two contact spaces, the type of gas flowing through the main contact space is expediently subjected to both carbon dioxide conversion and carbonic acid absorption (removal of carbonic acid from the gas) and the type of gas flowing through the secondary contact space is only subjected to carbon dioxide conversion in the latter.
The conversion of the carbon dioxide and the simultaneous complete or partial removal of the carbon dioxide ice (both that formed during the carbon dioxide conversion and that originally contained in the gas) is best carried out according to a process which is already known.
After this, in the presence of water vapor within a certain temperature range, a regenerable catalyst, preferably anchorite, which is suitable for both the carbon oxide conversion and the carbon dioxide absorption, is used, which optionally includes the contact space (where the aforementioned reactions take place) and the regeneration space (where the contact substance is made usable again for the reactions) circulates through it. A catalyst is sufficient for the secondary contact area, which only has to be suitable for the conversion of carbon dioxide and not also for the absorption of carbon dioxide.
With the present method, a detoxified gas (gas mixture) with a predetermined (prescribed) calorific value can be generated. The calorific value (combustion heat) can also be maintained at the same level as that of the previously supplied, non-detoxified town gas.
Both the series and the side-by-side connection of the main and secondary contact areas have advantages in terms of construction and operation. When connected in series, the detoxification system can be set up in a simple structure and the secondary contact space does not require any special device for supplying heat to the contact material in order to maintain the correct reaction temperature range for carbon conversion. The heat required for this in the adjoining contact space mainly brings with it the gas coming from the upstream main contact space itself.
Another thermal connection between the main and secondary contact area can be that the sensible heat of the hot and already detoxified gas exiting the secondary contact area is converted into water vapor, which is used to saturate the gas to be detoxified Method is used. For a similar indirect exchange of the sensible heat, the hot gases (flue gases) withdrawn from the regeneration furnace of the contact material can also serve.
In the case of side-by-side connection, the structural advantages can be expressed in a reduction in the size of both contact spaces (bi the same total output, i.e. with the same gas passage through the Ent poisoning system) compared to the series connection. This and the simplification and standardization of the detoxification apparatus reduce the construction costs of the system.
The operational advantages are also expressed in the simplification and standardization of the operational processes and especially in a simplified operational management to maintain a certain, desired (prescribed) calorific value (combustion heat) in the detoxified city gas. These structural and operational advantages bring significant advantages of an economic nature and they also reduce the costs of gas detoxification to an extraordinary degree.
The advantages of connecting the main and secondary contact areas next to one another are mainly of an operational nature:
If a single gas or a single gas mixture is detoxified according to the latter procedure, after it has been divided (at x in Fig. 2), the ratio of the partial amounts of gas subjected to various detoxification treatments in the main and secondary contact areas can be selected in such a way that after these partial gas quantities have been combined (at y in FIG. 2), a gas or gas mixture is produced as detoxified town gas with the same calorific value as the town gas had before detoxification.
The same can also be achieved if two gases or gas mixtures with different composition and calorific value are detoxified in the main and secondary contact areas. In this case, the quantities of the gases or gas mixtures subjected to various detoxification treatments in the two thermally interconnected contact rooms are always selected only in such a way that the predetermined, desired (prescribed) calorific value is achieved after they have been combined (at y in Fig. 3) becomes.
In Figs. 1, 2 and 3 examples of the thermal connection of the main and secondary contact space in the various circuits of these spaces, leaving out all other technical equipment required for carrying out the process, are shown schematically.
In each of the three figures, a main contact space 1, a secondary contact space 2 and a regeneration space 3 associated with the former are indicated. Furthermore, for all three examples of the detoxification of the gas in the main contact space 1, the known method mentioned at the outset has been selected, in which a regenerable one that circulates through the contact space and the regeneration space and is suitable for simultaneous carbon oxide conversion and carbon dioxide absorption Catalyst is brought into use.
The cycle of this catalyst (contact material) is indicated by the chain lines 15, 16, namely the empty small circles mean the contact material made usable again in the regeneration furnace, which is conveyed to the main contact space to carry out the carbon conversion and simultaneous carbon dioxide absorption becomes. The filled in small circles indicate the contact material saturated with carbon dioxide, which is carried from the main contact space to the regeneration space for the purpose of making the contact material usable again (driving out the carbonic acid absorbed by the contact material in the reaction space of the main contact space).
To heat the regeneration space, hot non-combustible gases (combustion gases, flue gases) flowing in through line 9 are used, which flow out of the regeneration space through line 10 and can be used in the process.
In Fig. 1, the series connection of the main contact space 1 and this addition to contact space 2 is indicated schematically. Both rooms are thermally connected to one another, namely because the sensible heat of the gas detoxified in 1 and preheated to a greater extent in a heat exchanger 4 is used to create the temperature range in the contact material in the secondary cycle room that is necessary for carbon oxide conversion and keep to it all the time.
The preheating in 4 takes place here, for example, by the hot smoke gases coming from 10. Additional heat can be supplied indirectly from the main contact space to the secondary contact space through steam superheated in the former, by supplying steam from steam line 12 to the superheater in 1, which flows through line 13 from 1 to 2 and leaves 2 through line 14. The immediate main heat supply in the secondary contact space is done by the detoxified gas flowing from 1 to 2 itself. The gas to be detoxified flows through line 5 to the main contact space 1, leaving it through line 6 and through line 7 to the secondary contact furnace pouring in.
The completely detoxified city gas flows out of the secondary contact space 2 through the line 8.
In Fig. 2, the main contact area and the secondary contact area are connected next to one another. Through the gas line 5, the toxic gas to ent flows to the distribution point x. Here the Gassitrom is divided into two parts.
One part of the gas (usually the larger) is fed through the line 5 'to the main contact space 1 and the second part of the gas through the line 5 "to the secondary contact space 2 via a heat exchanger 4. The part of the gas detoxified in 1 is fed through the line 6 to the heat exchanger 4 and is used here to preheat the partial gas quantity flowing into the secondary contact furnace 2 through the line 7.
The latter flows through the line 8 ″ to the mixing point y, where it is reunited with the portion coming from the contact furnace 1, which is partially cooled in 4 and flows through the i line 8 'from 4 to the mixing point y. (In Fig 2, the partial gas quantity flowing through the main ion cycle space is indicated by a solid line and the partial gas volume flowing through the secondary contact space is indicated by a dot-dash line.) The distribution point x is set up in such a way that a desired ratio of the two partial gas quantities can be established.
In the embodiment of FIG. 3, the arrangement of the individual apparatuses for executing the method is the same as in that of FIG. 2. The only difference is that, as in FIG. 2, the two contact spaces 1 and 2 do not contain a single gas or a single gas. a single gas mixture (which is divided into two partial gas streams) flows in, but that in the example according to FIG. 3 each of the contact spaces 1 and 2 separately, individual pulses or gas mixtures of different compositions with different heating devices are supplied. These individual gases or gas mixtures, detoxified separately in 1 and 2, are then combined at the mixing point y to form a non-toxic town gas.
The quantity ratio of the gas or gas mixture detoxified in the main contact room 1 to that of the gas detoxified in the secondary contact room 2 is chosen so that the non-toxic town gas has the desired (prescribed) calorific value, which of course can also be the same as the one that the City gas before the introduction of the non-toxic gas.
The gas flow is otherwise the same as in Fig. 2 has been described. Only in FIG. 3 the full line indicates the gas or gas mixture flowing through the main contact furnace 1 and the dash-dotted line the gas or gas mixture flowing through the secondary contact furnace 2. In both embodiments (Fig. 2 and 3) the heat exchanger 4 provides the thermal connection of the main contact space with the auxiliary contact space. In FIG. 4, the sensible heat of the gas or gas mixture detoxified in the main contact space is transferred indirectly to the gas to be detoxified in the secondary contact furnace.
There are of course other possibilities of the thermal relationship between the main and secondary contact space, but this does not change the basic idea of the invention. The same applies in the event that the carbon dioxide conversion with the simultaneous absorption of carbon dioxide in the main contact space is carried out according to a method other than that assumed in the examples or with a different catalyst than anchorite.
