Driving and equipment for correcting distortions in light sound recordings in sprout script. The invention relates to a process and a device for correcting distortions in Lichttonaufzeichnun conditions in sprout script.
In the case of a sound recording in which the intensity of the sound exposure is controlled proportionally to the sound waves to be recorded, it is well known that a characteristic curve that is not absolutely satisfactory is obtained, with the characteristic curve being the relationship between the exposure of the film during recording and the light transmittance of the film playback is understood.
The fact that only a relatively small part of this characteristic is straight and can therefore only be used for film control limits both the volume of the sound transmission and the tolerances permitted for film processing. Although the intensity method has a number of advantages for sound recording, there has recently been a move more and more to serrated writing because this is the only way to accommodate a large amount of transparency on the film without distortion.
Another disadvantage of the known sound recording methods is that they depend to a considerable extent on the randomness of the sound exposure and on the development of the sound strip.
In addition, it has already been proposed to make sound recordings in sprout script, in which a change in the width of the Tonauf recording is made to achieve certain effects. The recording organ was designed in such a way that the recording width decreased in proportion to the decrease in film transparency.
Accordingly, the intensity-based and amplitude-based control were superimposed in the same direction, so that the resulting characteristic curve is essentially square. However, the disadvantages of such a characteristic are known.
The present invention advantageously makes it possible to eliminate the disadvantages associated with the sound recording method in sprout writing. According to the method according to the invention, a photographic recording containing only the non-linear distortions is made and scanned together with the actual optical sound recording during playback.
In the accompanying drawing, the method according to the invention is explained in more detail on the basis of exemplary embodiments, which at the same time show the advantages of the method over the prior art.
1 shows a characteristic curve such as is obtained when using the usual film material with normal exposure and development in previous optical sound recording methods in sprout script. For the representation, the exposure during recording was chosen as the abscissa scale and the reproduction transparency was chosen as the ordinate scale.
It can be seen from this curve that only a relatively small part of the characteristic curve runs in a straight line, so that, as already mentioned above, the control range is too small for the practical requirements.
FIGS. 2a and 22b show one of the already known combinations of intensity and amplitude recording, FIG. 2a showing the writing as such, FIG. 2b showing the most important parts of the sound recording device.
The sound recording device consists essentially of a gap which is mapped onto the film and is illuminated by a diaphragm which represents a triangular section of a gray wedge. This diaphragm is moved by the control device (not shown) in the rhythm of the sound waves to be recorded and then generates a font corresponding to FIG. 2a. F'ig. 3 shows the characteristic curve produced when this known method is used.
In contrast to this known process, the gradation of the gray wedge from FIG. 1221) in connection with the triangular cutout is chosen to maintain a correction recording according to one embodiment of the invention, just opposite, as shown in FIG.
The characteristic curve which is achieved with such a control device can be seen from FIG. In the areas in which the characteristic curve of the pure sprout writing method runs in a straight line, the characteristic line in FIG. 5 also runs in a straight line, but parallel to the exposure axis, because the control of the soundtrack width is exactly the opposite of the control of the film transparency, so that through light passing through the film as it is scanned remains constant.
In contrast, in the areas in which the characteristic line of FIG. 1 has curvatures, curvatures are also present in the present recording, but in the opposite sense. Accordingly, it is possible with a control mechanism according to FIG. 4, to compensate for all errors that occur in the normal bar writing process due to the curvature of the characteristic line. The change in the audio track width is preferably a maximum of half the audio track width.
The recording described made light two essential embodiments of the invention.
The first example consists in the fact that one and the same control mechanism produces both a pure sprout writing recording and the correction recording parallel and in phase with it, and both soundtracks produced in this way are reproduced using the push-pull method. Fig. 6 shows the control device according to this embodiment.
The advantage of this procedure is there. The fact that the curvature of the characteristic curve of FIG. 1 can be compensated for by means of the correction recording, and consequently a rung sound recording can be produced which can be both transparent up to the maximum values and reproduced completely free of distortion. For example, it is conceivable to arrange the auxiliary recording next to it for safety's sake in the case of a normal recording in sprouts and, in the event that the normal recording has turned out to be satisfactory, only to use this for the production of the theater films.
If, however, the exposure of the recording or the development of the film was wrong, the recording can be replayed again using the auxiliary recording and the distortions caused by incorrect exposure etc. can be compensated for with the aid of the auxiliary recording.
Finally, it must be mentioned that this method makes it possible, when using pure tone controls, to go down to a very low level of transparency at the points where the control is weak, because the curved parts of the characteristic curve according to FIG. 1 can be controlled. It is therefore possible through the process to increase the volume level considerably.
The second embodiment consists in the combination of the correction recording with a normal recording in sprouts, but the push-pull method is dispensed with in the scanning and the scanning is carried out in the usual way. 7 shows an example of a control mechanism for this exemplary embodiment of the method according to the invention.
In this case, a straight characteristic curve is not achieved, as in the previous example, but a fully symmetrical characteristic curve is achieved, which has advantages in that with a symmetrical characteristic curve, the distortions caused by the curvature of the characteristic curve are much less dangerous than with an asymmetric characteristic.
It is particularly advantageous for the method according to the invention, especially in the two main inventive examples, to use a mirror oscilloscope for light control and in this the triangular aperture in combination with a gray wedge BEZW. a gante that is to be depicted out of focus on the gap and parallel to the gap should be used.
