Light metal rims, in particular for bicycles. The present invention relates to a light metal rim which is particularly suitable for use on bicycles. The previously known alloy wheels, the use of which was sought to achieve a ge ring weight of the bike, do not yet meet the requirements placed on them in terms of strength. The purpose of the invention is to enlarge it. According to the invention, a reinforcing strip made of a metal is placed over the entire circumference of the rim.
The drawing shows some exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 1, the light metal rim 1 contains a groove 2 into which a steel strip 3 is rolled, of the kind that its surface runs flush with the rim surface. The ends of the steel band 3 are the same as the ends of the rim 1 itself butt welded together ver. In the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the steel strip 3 is also rolled back into a groove 2 of the rim, but only partially. The ends of the rim 1 and the steel band 3 are butt welded together again.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the endless steel band 3 is placed on the smooth base of the rim without a special groove being provided for this purpose.
As can be seen from FIG. 4, when the nipple holes are punched, the steel strip is sunk into the holes. This countersinking forms a natural support for the nipple heads, which then no longer rest directly on the light metal, so that it is prevented from tearing. The previously used nipple plates are superfluous with this arrangement of the steel strip 3.
Fig. 5 shows that the spoke holes are punched so that they run in the direction of the spokes. This also shows that the nipple head is correctly positioned.
The steel band 3 can be used at the same time to reinforce the rim and to change the profile accordingly.
Instead of a steel band, a brass band could also be used. If steel is used, rust-free steel is advantageously used.
