Die unmittelbare Beheizung des Bimetallstreifens hat :den Vorteil, dass der Thermostatschalter weniger träge ist, aber der unmittelbare Stromdurchgang durch den;

Der Teil a besteht z.

Bimetallstreifen o in dessen kaltem Zustand abgeschlossen.
Fig. 3 zeigt eine etwas abgeänderte Ausführungsform.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Electrical switchgear with bimetal element. Thermostat switches which are provided with a bimetal strip or with a bimetal plate as a triggering means are known for a wide variety of purposes. They are used in automatic switches to protect against overcurrent or short circuit, in heating devices as temperature monitors or e.g. B. also as a trigger in acoustic or optical signal circuits.
Thermostat holders have also found extensive use, for example, in connection with relays or contactors; they can also be found as triggering means on remote switches, among other things.
Unless a room temperature is monitored, i.e. the heating of the bimetallic strip by the room heat itself, the bimetallic strip is heated by electricity, either through the direct passage of current or indirectly via a heating package. The change in shape that occurs when the bimetallic tire is heated is used to trigger a switching process.
The direct heating of the bimetal strip has: the advantage that the thermostat switch is less sluggish, but the direct passage of current through the;
Bimetal strips represent a hazard in the event of high overcurrent or even short-circuit. Indirect heating has the disadvantage that it is difficult to supply heat to the bimetal strip, since losses can occur during the transfer of heat through both thermal conduction and thermal radiation and, as a result, the bimetal release is not only more sluggish, but also less sensitive and no more responds exactly under the desired conditions.
The invention relates to an electrical switching device with a bimetallic element heated by thermal radiation and aims to reduce the losses occurring during the transfer of heat from the heating wire to the bimetallic element. Slightly
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to diminish.
For this purpose, it is proposed according to the invention to at least partially enclose the heating conductor with a reflector surface that reflects the heat radiated to it back to the bimetallic element, the bimetallic element being arranged opposite the reflector surface and the heating conductor in such a way that at least approximately all heat rays hit the bimetal element.
The shape of an elongated tub has proven to be very useful. parabolic cross-section for the screen: proven, in whose focal line the heating conductor is arranged. However, the shape of a parabolic pot for the screen is also possible, the correspondingly wound heating conductor being arranged at the focal point of the parabolic pot, the cover of which is formed by a bimetal plate.
However, the switching device can also be designed in the form of a tube, which is provided with rear surfaces and within which two useful current flows parallel to one another. Bimetallic strips are arranged which, in the switched-on position, rest on both sides of a stationary contact piece located between them.
This tube, to a certain extent a mirror image doubling of the above-mentioned screen, then also has a parabolic cross-sectional shape, so that the heat conductors lying in the focal lines, insofar as they do not radiate their heat directly onto the bi-nietal strips, transfer the heat the reflective surfaces of the tube lead away to the bimetal strip.
In order to be able to change and set the response characteristics of the switching device, the stationary contact piece, on which the two bimetallic strips through which the useful current flows, have a non-circular contact surface for them and is rotatably mounted. However, the invention can also be used advantageously in such Sehalteinriehtungen in which the bimetallic strip including the contact device is arranged inside .einer completely closed tube ..- with reflective surfaces.
It is recommended here to arrange the movable contact carried by the bimetallic strip through which the useful current flows inside an eccentric recess of the stationary mating contact, which has two iron poles for the purpose of adjusting the mating contact by means of a permanent magnet. Here, too, the response characteristics of the switching device can be changed and adjusted as required by a corresponding device. Of course, if there are two or more heating conductors, these can be different. Let phases of the current to be monitored flow through.
Various exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown in the drawing.
F'ig. 1. and 2 show respectively in front view. , a longitudinal section of a switching device with a tub-like reflective screen; 3 shows a switching device using a parabolic reflector cup; FIG. 4 shows a longitudinal section, FIG. 5 shows a plan view of a switching device operating with quiescent current, in which two bimetal strips are accommodated in the interior of a tube provided with reflective surfaces.
The embodiment according to FIGS. 6 to 8 differs from the previous one in that the bimeitald strips including the contact device are housed in a gas-tight sealed glass tube.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 1, a trough-like, elongated body a is used as a screen, the cross section of which, as FIG. 1 shows, is parabolic. Part a consists z. B. made of aluminum or some other sheet metal, which is highly polished on the inside. The heating conductor b is arranged in the focal line of the parabolic mirror, which means that when the switching device is used, it is switched into the circuit to be monitored, for example for overcurrent protection.
The opening of the parabolic mirror a wixd. almost completely through the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Bimetal strip o completed in its cold state. The bimetallic strip c is attached on one side to a carrier d made of insulating material. so heated exclusively by thermal radiation. Insofar as the heat rays do not pass directly from the heating conductor b to the bimetal strip c, but, as indicated by arrows in FIG. 1, impinge on the reflective surfaces of the mirror a, they are reflected back onto the bimetal strip c.
The bending of the bimetallic strip c, indicated in dashed lines, is used to trigger any switching processes. The bimetallic strip c can thus trigger a latched energy storage device, for example in the case of automatic switches, which on the other hand transfers the switching device into the open position. The bimetallic strip c can, however, also directly carry switching contacts, for example of a control circuit. It does not matter whether the control circuit is closed or open when the bimetallic strip c is cold.
The latter is only due to the respective application.
Fig. 3 shows a somewhat modified embodiment. It differs from that according to FIGS. 1 and 2 by the shape of the screen a, which in the embodiment according to FIG. 3 has the shape of a parabolic metal pot. Through an opening e and a similar opening on the back of the metal pot a, the heating conductor circuit is zu- or. discharged.
In this embodiment, the bimetal element c has the form of a bimetal plate which, to a certain extent, forms the cover of the pot a and, in the embodiment assumed as an example, carries the movable contact f of the circuit to be controlled. The distance between the bimetal plate c and the pot a is adjustable; the desired position is secured by the clamping screw g. In the embodiment according to FIGS. 4 and 5, a tube i made of insulating material, for.
B. made of glass attached, which is provided on its outer or inner wall with a mirror coating. Like F'ig. 5 shows, the tube i has the cross-sectional shape of a. Oval. The heating conductors b1, b2 are arranged in the focal lines of this tube. Two bimetallic strips cl, c2 through which useful current flows are attached to the base plate h. Both bimetallic strips rest at their upper ends on a mating contact j which is rotatably mounted and has an adjusting screw 1c.
The heating conductor b is traversed by one phase S, the heating conductor b @ by the other phase R of the circuit to be monitored. The two bimetallic strips cl, c2 are in a useful circuit m, which is fed, for example, by alternating current and has a coil n. It. it is required that the coil n is de-excited when the current increases in the circuit to be monitored, that is to say that the interruption contacts indicated in FIG. 4 are opened.
The in, the focal lines of the tube z. the heat conductors b1, b2 radiate their heat partly directly onto the bimetallic strips cl, e2 and, moreover, give off their heat indirectly to the bimetallic strips via the mirror covering of the tube i. These heat up accordingly, they bend apart in the direction of the two arrows shown in FIG. 4 and finally stand out from the mating contact j.
This lifting takes place earlier, the closer the two bimetallic strips cl, e2 are to one another with their free ends in the cold state. If the mating contact j is turned by means of the adjusting screw k, so that in the cold state the two bimetals:
If strips c ,, c2 are more distant from one another with their free ends, the bimetal strips en cl, c2 are later lifted off from the mating contact j. If it is desired to achieve the interruption of the useful current circuit n between the bimetal strips and the mating contact j without arcing, then sufficient means are known to ensure instantaneous disconnection.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
While the embodiment according to FIGS. 4 and 5 operates with so-called quiescent current, the embodiment according to FIGS. 6 to 8 shows a switching device with so-called working current. The bimetallic strip e :: has a movable contact o at its free end, to which a mating contact p in the form of a ring with an eccentric recess r is assigned.
The useful circuit in is connected on the one hand to the bimetallic strip c3 and on the other hand to the mating contact p. The entire switching device, including the bimetallic strip c3 and also the two heating conductors b ,, b, are in the outside and inside with. A glass tube i provided with a mirror coating and having an oval cross-section (FIG. 7) is melted down.
Contact rings s, t, v, zc, are provided on the outside of the tube for the purpose of supplying power to the heating conductors b ,, bz. The tube i can therefore be inserted in the manner of a plug into a plug sleeve with the rings s, t, r, iv, corresponding counter-contacts, but the current to be monitored can also be connected to the rings s, t, r, zv, or in any other way.
In the cold state (FIG. 6) the useful circuit is fr2. interrupted. When the bimetallic strip c. Is heated, it bends until the movable contact o comes to rest against the mating contact p. and thus the utility circuit, e.g. B. a signal circuit or a control circuit for a remote switch or the like. Closes.
To enable the response time of the switching device to be adjusted. the contact ring 1r is rotatably mounted and provided with two iron poles: x, J (see especially Fig. 8). To adjust the ring p. a permanent horseshoe pin z is used, which is supported and moved around the upper part i, the glass tube, in the manner shown in FIG. with the ring p being carried along.
The lower part i of the glass tube, as FIG. 7 shows, has an oval cross-section, the upper part i, however, a circular cross-section.
The tube i, i, can be known as that. is evacuated or it is filled with an inert gas.
The particular advantage of the subject of the invention is the extensive use of heat. Setting the heating conductor in the focal line or the focal point of the screen or covering that completely or partially encloses the bimetallic strip prevents a large part of the heat emanating from the heating conductor from being uselessly lost in the room. There is therefore no need for any special heat protection means that complicate the structure and yet do not favorably influence the service life of the switching device.
