Connection device for electric irons with automatic power cut-off when the maximum permissible temperature is reached.
The subject of the invention relates to a connection device with automatic power cut-off for electric irons, in which an electromagnet-dependent blocking of a handset is provided, which switches off automatically in the unlocked state, and in which connection device an automatic current switch-off when a certain maximum temperature is reached a thermostat takes place.
The thermostat can be combined with a mercury contact, which is located in the circuit of the electromagnet, which contact causes the current to be switched off at the moment in which the iron provided with the connection device, intentionally or unintentionally, takes a position that is different from the position usual for ironing deviates. The iron can only be switched on with the manual switch in a horizontal position.
Solehe connection devices are known and are then assembled into a single apparatus which is intended to be placed on the back of the iron. There have now been disadvantages; Namely, first, the whole apparatus takes on a relatively high temperature, which is disadvantageous for its individual components, and secondly, the device with the mercury contact, which is in the circuit of the electromagnet, and the thermostat could be made relatively small, as little in the apparatus Space is available.
The subject of the invention counteracts these disadvantages in that the connection device is designed in two parts, with the thermostat being housed in one part, while the electromagnet and the manual switch and the associated locking device are housed in the other part, one of which is the thermostat containing part is intended to be placed on the iron, while the other part is connected to the first part by means of a flexible cable and is designed as a plug so that it can be easily connected to a power source.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing. Fig. 1 shows schematically an elevation with parts in section; Fig. 2 shows a section along line 11-11 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 shows a section along line III-II of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 shows a variant of a detail.
The iron 22 has two plug contact pins 23. Part A of the pre-

having. In the socket A there is a mercury thermometer 14, which is also designed as a mercury contact, which is in the circuit of the electromagnet 4. The mercury mass of the thermometer 14 simultaneously mediates the current transfer to a line 26 which is connected to the steek contact pin 27 of the upper part B of the device. The line 28 connects the contact 29 in the neck of the thermometer 14 with the electromagnet 4 and leads from there to the plug pin 31, so that the line 28 forms part of the main circuit.
A line 30 leads from the receptacle 25, which is not connected to the thermometer, to the current circuit spring 11, which makes contact with a plate 33 which forms part of a circuit breaker; the line 30 leads on to the connector pin 31. Opposite the contact spring 11 is a second contact spring. , which are also with the

Plate 33 makes contact. In this plate a part 35 made of insulating compound is inserted and the plate has an extension 36 at the top, which ends in a push button by which the switch can be operated by hand. The plate 33 is vertically displaceable and has a slot 38 into which an adjusting screw 38 projects, which limits the vertical adjustment of the plate 33.
The upper end of the electromagnet 4 carries a bearing plate 40 on which the armature 41 of the electromagnet is rotatably mounted. A flat spring 42 tries to press the armature 41 against the plate 33: the armature has a projection 43 which engages with a nose 44 on the plate 33 when the latter is in its lowest position. A coil spring 45 is attached between the push button 37 and the bearing plate 40, which strives to lift the push button and, at the same time, the plate 33 to its maximum bearing, in which the two contact pins 11 and 34 rest against the insulated part 35 of the plate 33. A two-part housing 46, 47 encloses the parts of part B of the device described above.
From FIGS. 1-3 it can be seen that in the illustrated position of the parts, the electromagnet 4 is not excited because the mercury does not touch the contact 29. The electromagnet 41 is therefore not attracted and the switch is switched on, so that current can flow from a power source to the plug contact pins 27 and 31 and thus to the heating resistor of the iron 22. Will now the
If the iron temperature is higher than the maximum limit determined in advance, the mercury rises to contact 29 and closes the circuit 28, so that the electromagnet 4 is excited and the armature 41 pulls against the action of the spring 42.
As a result, the projection 43 is pulled away from the nose 44 and the so released plate 33 of the lookout holder is by the action of
Helical spring 45 is moved upwards so that the power supply to the iron is interrupted when the two contact springs 11 and 34 bear against the insulated part 35 of the plate 33.
In order to intentionally interrupt the circuit so that no current flows to the iron, the latter is placed on an inclined surface so that the mercury column within the thermometer 14 flows against the contact 29, whereby the circuit of the electromagnet is closed and the switch 33 is released . Switching on the power is only possible when the iron is in its normal horizontal position.
Since part A only contains the thermometer 14 together with the necessary electrical connections, there is thus enough space to use a relatively large thermometer or an effective mercury contact device.
The thermometer can also have the shape shown in FIG. This thermometer contains a lower vessel 48 and an upper vessel 49, which vessels are connected by a tube 50, the upper end of which protrudes into the vessel 49 in such a way that the latter constantly contains an amount of liquid which covers the wire end 51 to which the Conductor 29 is connected. This end 51 is thus always accommodated in the mercury, so that its destruction is prevented. The operation of this thermometer and the mercury contact is similar to the operation of the thermometer 14 according to Fig.
L.
In the device shown, it is now excluded due to the two-part (parts A and B) that the parts contained in the socket B, such as electromagnet and switch, by too large from
Heat generated by the iron can be damaged. The circuit on the thermometer is made in such a way that it is in the main circuit and that if it were to break, no more current can get to the iron, so that the iron can no longer be heated.
The mercury thermometer is designed in such a way that at 1200 heat the mercury column comes into current-conducting contact with the contact 29, as a result of which the electromagnet 4 switches off automatically.
