Dynamoelectric machine. The present invention relates to a dynamoelectric machine, in particular of large dimensions., With an elastic device to prevent the transmission of: vibrations which appear in the core to the outer frame: of the machine.
It is known that the magnetic forces exerted by the rotor on the core of the stator of a dynamo-electric machine give rise to vibrations in said core, these vibrations having a fairly large amplitude in the case of high speed machines. having a small number: of poles. Thus in: a two-pole machine - of large size, such as a turbo-generator; the very powerful magnetic field: of the rotor forces the core of the stator to assume an approximately elliptical shape, and this elliptical deformation turns during the operation of the machine at the same speed as the rotor.
As the distribution of the magnetic field is approximately sinusoidal, the movement of each point: in the stator core will also be sinusoidal. The same effect occurs with a larger number of poles, although it is at most in machines: having only few poles and correspondingly high rotational speeds.
This deformation of the core, which rotates with the rotor, causes the core to vibrate at a frequency corresponding to the speed of rotation: and this vibration can, in some cases, reach a fairly large amplitude.
In the usual construction of grandis generators: and other dynamo-electric machines,: in which the core of the stator is directly supported by a frame or an enclosed box, the vibrations appearing in the core are transmitted to the frame and the foundation on which the machine rests.
This is obviously very unpleasant, but: no way has so far been found to prevent production: such vibrations can be reduced significantly. their amplitude, since they are caused by the magnetic field of the rotor, the power of which is determined by the desired capacity of the machine.
The dynamo-electric machine, object of the invention, therefore comprises, in combination with a stator consisting of an outer frame element, an inner frame element, a stator core fixed in the inner frame element, means elastic mounting elements connecting the inner frame element to the outer frame element, said elastic means having such elasticity radially relative. to the stator that they can absorb the vibrations occurring in the stator core, but are rigid in such a way in the tangential direction with respect to the stator that they can.
"support it in its correct position in relation to the exterior frame.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an end view of the dynamoelectric machine, but without .rotor, a part being represented in: section following line I-I of FIG. 2; Fig. 2 is a side view of the machine, partly in section along line II-II of FIG. 1.
Figs. 3 and 4 give explanatory details of a theoretical nature.
The machine shown in fig. 1 and. 2 is a relatively large generator having an outer frame member which comprises a box-casing 1 and a plurality of axially spaced rings 2. Said frame member has support legs 3 on each side to support the machine on it. a foundation 4, with holes 5 being provided in the casing 1 at suitable places, which can be, if desired, closed by covers. The machine has 6 laminated stator core,
which is provided with slots 7 for receiving armature windings. The stator core is rigidly mounted in an inner frame member which comprises a series of longitudinal steel strips 8 and annular steel rings 9 thus forming a frame which is completely separate from the outer frame member. A rotor is attached to a shaft 10 that is. rotatably supported in outer bearings (not shown) and is arranged to be operated by an engine such as, for example, a steam turbine.
The inner frame member is supported in the outer frame member by spring members 11. These spring members have the. Form of flat steel plates which are relatively wide and thin, rigid in the direction of their length, but elastic in the transverse direction.
There are two sets of plates on each side of the core and at each end of the machine, as clearly shown in the drawing. Each pair of spring plates is mounted in an upright position on a support 12, that is. fixed to a tab 13 of the outer frame element with the aid of bolts 14.
The brackets 12 are secured in position with bolts 15 which are screwed into the brackets at one end and connected to tabs 16 of the outer frame member at the other end, such that the supports 12 form rigid parts to carry the weight of the interior frame member and the core.
The inner frame element comprises a longitudinal bar 17 on each side, which constitutes one of the bands of the inner frame element and which has vertical holes for receiving bolts 18 with the aid of which each bar is attached to a cap member 19 which is attached to the upper ends of the plates
springs 11. The spring plates 11 being relatively long and thin in the vertical direction have a considerable elasticity in the horizontal direction, that is to say radially with respect to the element interior frame. They are. however relatively strong and rigid in:
the vertical direction, thanks to their width and the fact that each pair of spring plates is firmly assembled at both ends. For this reason, the weight of the inner frame member and the core are adequately supported in: the outer frame member.
As the spring plates 11 have considerable elasticity in the horizontal direction, it is understood that the inner frame member could perform. horizontal movements. if it was supported only by the spring plates 11. However, to suppress such. movements: in the horizontal direction, the internal frame element is also supported, at the bottom, by: spring elements 20.
These: spring elements may be smaller in size than the spring plates 11, since they are not called upon to support the weight. of the inner frame element and of the core, but must be sufficiently rigid in the direction of their length to suppress any horizontal movement of the inner frame element, while:
being sufficiently elastic radially with respect to the tick element radially with respect to the frame element to absorb radial vibrations. Of: bars: 2: 1 are fixed between the outer parts 2: of the element: of the outer frame and each of the spring elements 20 is fixed by its outer end in one of the bars 21 with the aid of nuts s : and clamping wheels 22.
The inner ends: of the spring elements, 20 are fixed to longitudinal strips 2, 3, extending between the rings 9 of the inner frame element, by nuts and washers. clamp 24. Two spring elements 20 are provided at each end of the machine, one of said spring elements being fixed to the bar 21 on one side of the machine and the other spring element being fixed to the bar. 21 on the opposite side of the machine, as shown in fig. 1.
111 is thus apparent that the inner frame element is supported in the correct position in the outer frame element by means of spring elements at points: spaced around the latter, these elements being fixed by a one end to the outer frame member and the other end to the inner frame member.
These spring elements are all sufficiently rigid tangentially with respect to the inner frame-element to support it in position: in: the outer frame element, but they are sufficiently elastic. radially with respect to the element the internal frame to absorb the components: radial vibrations, manifesting themselves in the stator core as a result of the forces:
magnets exerted: by the rotor, -and thus preventing their transmission to the external frame element and to the foundation.
However, like the support springs: are rigid in the tangential direction, any tangential components of the vibrations occurring at the locations where the springs are attached to the inner frame member will be transmitted in pairs to the outer frame member. However, the tangential components of vibration are, in general, much smaller than the radial components, but nevertheless large enough to be detrimental.
With the aim of also suppressing the transmission of tangential components of vibrations, the spring elements are fixed to the internal frame element at: points where these components are, substantially zero: -or -at least so small that they , have no: appreciable effect. These points can be easily determined by trial and error, but their position can also be calculated very easily.
Referring to dla fig. 3, ds. Represents a small segment of the neutral axis A, of the stator. This elementary segment -is shown in a in its normal position -or undeformed: and in b in its position:
n -deformed at a given moment praised the influence of the magnetic field -of the ro tor. The tangential strain of one end of the segment measured at an angle is z and E represents the radical strain.
The radius -die the neutral axis -is r and the angular width of the segment ds is represented by d0.

By developing the radical. and by omitting the terms of order higher than the second, we obtain:

The linear strain equal to r z and from equation (5) results when 19
EMI0004.0012
cl results Since the magnetic field of a generator rotor is of sinusoidal distribution and since the stator is mounted symmetrically, the deformation of the stator will be elliptical and the radial deformation of a point on the neutral axis at a given instant will be
EMI0004.0013
e l where C is an integration constant;
C can be evaluated by referring to fig. 4 which shows the elliptical deformation of the neutral axis of the stator. We will see by this figure that,
EMI0004.0018
z is zero. C will therefore be equal to zero and
EMI0004.0021
hence: we see that the maximum tangential motion is half of the radial motion.
For a point located outside the neutral axis, the movement: linear tangential T will be equal to that of the corresponding point on the neutral axis plus the movement due to the angular deformation
EMI0004.0026
EMI0004.0027
where v is the radial distance from said point to the neutral axis. From equation (7)
EMI0004.0028
By introducing the values (8) and (10) into equation (9), we will have
EMI0004.0033
When the machine is running, the elliptical deformation of the stator will rotate at a speed equal to the speed of the rotor.
The deformation of a point at any time t can then be obtained by replacing O by cc t in the equation above, or being the angular velocity. Equations (7), (8) and (11) then become
EMI0004.0049
It follows from the last equation that the tangential component of the vibration:
will be zero in. points which are at a radial distance outside the neutral axis equal to one third of the radius of the neutral axis. When the support springs are attached to the inner frame member at these determined points, no tangential vibration will then be transmitted to the outer frame member and, as the springs are, radially strong enough to absorb the components. radial health,
transmission of any vibration to the outer frame member will thus be prevented.
In summary, in the example described above and shown in the drawing, the stator core is supported in an inner frame member which is mounted in the outer frame member by means of spring brackets which are mounted. established so as to be sufficiently resilient radially to the inner frame member to absorb the radial components of the vibrations occurring in the stator core and to be sufficiently rigid tangentially to the member
inner frame for supporting the weight thereof and for maintaining it in proper position in the outer frame member, said spring supports being attached to the inner frame member at points where the tangential components of the frame vibration are zero or at least extremely small.
Thus, no vibration will be transmitted from the stator core to the outer frame element and the latter as well as the foundation of the machine are free from any harmful vibrations.
It is understood that the construction described is susceptible to many modifications. Thus, there is shown in the drawing an air-cooled dynamo-electric machine, but it goes without saying that the present invention can also be easily applied to a completely caged machine which can be cooled by a gas such as gas. hydrogen circulating through the machine,
by establishing the outer frame member in the form of a gas-tight box-envelope thereby providing suitable cooling means for the gas.
